My CEO Husband Says I'm Irreplaceable

Chapter 79: I’m Not the One You Should Apologize To

Chapter 79: Chapter 79: I’m Not the One You Should Apologize To

"I’m in the parking garage," Vesper Grayson said lightly. "Ran into a bit of trouble."

"What kind of trouble?" Jared Hawthorne stood up and headed out, with Noah Nash hurrying after him.

"I ran into someone completely unreasonable who’s trying to force me to sign some kind of non-disclosure agreement," Vesper said, exasperated. "She won’t let me leave unless I sign."

Jared chuckled. "Something like that can happen? Did you catch them murdering someone and setting a fire?"

"Not that serious. I saw a celebrity slap someone, and she’s worried I’ll spread it around and ruin her image."

Seeing her on the phone as if no one else was there, Roya Winters roared at her assistant, "What are you waiting for? Snatch her phone!"

Finn Summers immediately lunged forward to grab the phone, but Vesper, with her quick reflexes, dodged and kicked her hard in the lower back.

"AHH—"

Hearing the commotion on the other end, Jared quickened his pace, his expression instantly turning cold and grim.

"Vesper, are you okay?"

"I’m fine."

"Don’t hang up."

The elevator doors opened, and Zane Rivers arrived with the manager.

The moment she saw him, Roya Winters burst into tears and threw herself into Zane Rivers’s arms. "Zane, you have to stand up for me! She actually attacked me on your territory. She has no respect for you at all!"

Zane wrapped an arm around her shoulders, his sharp, dark eyes landing on Vesper Grayson. A flash of fleeting amazement crossed his face.

’There’s a girl this beautiful in Northolme?’

He always had a soft spot for beautiful women.

"Miss, attacking my person on my territory... you can’t just walk away without an explanation, can you?"

"Then please, President Rivers, keep your person in check and don’t let her go around bullying people with your influence!" Vesper said expressionlessly. "I was just passing by, and she tried to make me sign a hundred-million-dollar NDA. When I refused, she wouldn’t let me leave. President Rivers, you tell me, what kind of logic is that?"

Today, she was dressed in a simple white silk blouse and a minimalist black skirt. Her jet-black hair was swept up into a bun, revealing a slender, fair neck. The light in the parking garage fell on the silk like moonlight, making her delicate face look as if it were sculpted from the moon itself—exquisitely beautiful and untouched by the mortal world.

"Is that what happened?" Zane Rivers looked at Roya Winters coldly.

Roya bit her lip, her eyes red-rimmed. "No, of course not. I was just worried she might spread rumors, so I warned her a little."

Zane pushed her away and looked at Jamie Linton.

His gaze grew even colder when he saw the clear finger marks on her face.

"You. Tell me what happened."

Jamie Linton pressed her lips together. Just as she was about to speak, she saw Roya glare at her menacingly.

The look seemed to say, ’If you dare say the wrong thing, you’re dead!’

Vesper Grayson watched her quietly.

Jamie hesitated, then suddenly clenched her fists as if she had made up her mind.

"President Rivers, it’s true. I came to Stellaris Plaza for work, but she accused me of trying to seduce you. I tried to explain, but she wouldn’t listen and even slapped me. This lady was just passing by, and Miss Winters tried to force her to sign an NDA, using your name to bully her."

"Jamie Linton, shut your mouth!" Roya couldn’t believe this bitch actually dared to speak up.

Zane glanced at the furious and flustered Roya. The smile didn’t reach his eyes, and it sent a chill through Roya, making her feel as if she’d been plunged into an ice cellar.

She clung to his waist, her face tear-stained. "Zane, it’s only because I care about you so much! Besides, I’m your woman. You said you’d protect me no matter what I did..."

"All I did was ask her to sign an NDA, but I’m the one who got hit! When she hit me, she was slapping your face, boohoo..."

Zane’s eyes darkened, a grim light shining within them.

"This whole thing is Roya’s fault. Just apologize, and we’ll drop it."

Vesper said coolly, "She was the one who tried to attack me. I just pushed her away. Why on earth should I apologize to her?"

"Zane, look at her! She’s still so arrogant right in front of you," Roya choked out, adding fuel to the fire. "She has absolutely no respect for you!"

He wasn’t a good person to begin with, and having been publicly contradicted, his face immediately turned cold.

"It’s just a simple apology, but you insist on making a scene. Since you don’t know what’s good for you, I have plenty of ways to make you yield." Zane ordered the manager, "Take her to my office!"

Roya smirked triumphantly in his arms.

At that moment, the manager recognized Vesper Grayson.

She was the one who’d ruined his scheme last time, costing him a good chunk of money. But back then, she was with Mr. Hawthorne and President Hawthorne...

He didn’t dare be careless with someone connected to The Hawthorne Family.

Besides, President Hawthorne was also at Stellaris Plaza today.

’Could she be here to see President Hawthorne?’

With this in mind, the manager stepped forward and whispered a few words in Zane Rivers’s ear.

The look in Zane’s eyes as he looked at Vesper changed subtly.

"What is your relationship with the Hawthorne Family?"

Before she could answer, the elevator doors opened. Jared Hawthorne and Noah Nash walked out, just in time to hear Zane’s question.

"President Rivers, why don’t you ask me that question instead?"

His voice wasn’t loud, but it was clear and magnetic, rippling through the underground parking garage and striking a chord in everyone’s heart.

Jared strode over to Vesper’s side, his protective stance obvious.

Zane pushed the woman in his arms away and smiled. "Jared, I don’t usually see you getting close to anyone. Is this your girlfriend?"

He had heard Noah Nash mention that Jared, a man who rarely showed interest in romance, had recently started a relationship.

And that the woman in question was the fiancée who had previously run out on their wedding.

The fact that Jared not only didn’t hold it against her but was even going back for more made him incredibly curious about this audacious "heroine."

Noah Nash chuckled. "You actually guessed right. What do you think? Not disappointed, are you?"

"Truly extraordinary," Zane said with a smirk. "Miss Grayson, my person was being foolish. Do me a favor and don’t stoop to her level."

Vesper’s lips twitched into a smirk. "A moment ago, President Rivers was telling me to apologize to her. I take it that’s no longer necessary?"

"Just kidding. Do I look like the kind of person who can’t tell right from wrong?" Zane’s eyes were dark as he turned to Roya. "Hurry up and apologize to Miss Grayson."

"Zane..." Roya felt wronged. ’Why should I have to apologize?’

Zane shot her a look as cold as a winter star, his voice dangerous. "What? Are you going to disobey my orders now?"

With red-rimmed eyes, Roya said, "I’m sorry, Miss Grayson. I was in the wrong."

"Forget it. Let’s go upstairs."

Vesper couldn’t be bothered to argue with her, since she hadn’t lost anything in the exchange.

Besides, Zane Rivers and Jared seemed to know each other. She didn’t like bullying people with borrowed power, either—how would that make her any different from Roya?

Roya had just breathed a sigh of relief when she heard Vesper speak again.

"The person you should be apologizing to isn’t me, Miss Winters. It’s this lady, the one who was slapped."

’She wants me to apologize to that bitch Jamie Linton?’

Jamie Linton hadn’t expected her to say that. Surprised and flattered, she whispered, "I’m fine, really. There’s no need for an apology."

’If Roya Winters holds a grudge against me, she’ll just target me even more aggressively.’

’I just want to keep a low profile, work hard, and make a better life for myself.’

"When you do something wrong, you should apologize. Don’t spoil people too much, or they’ll cause even bigger trouble later," Jared Hawthorne said, looking at Zane with a deadpan expression. "Wouldn’t you agree?"

Zane’s eyes darkened. "Hurry up and apologize."
