My CEO Husband Says I'm Irreplaceable
Chapter 98: Aren’t You Afraid of Dying from ExhaustionChapter 98: Chapter 98: Aren’t You Afraid of Dying from Exhaustion
’When had I ever seduced him?’
Even if she truly wanted to, she’d have to be able to survive the consequences.
She had slept all day yesterday, only for him to pin her down that night. And after dinner, he’d come back for more, again and again. Her entire body was still sore.
’She had to admit it—that damn man had incredible stamina.’
Right now, he was dressed in a custom-tailored suit, having reverted to his usual noble and ascetic appearance. There was not a single trace of last night’s wild passion.
Jared Hawthorne watched her, his gaze darkening and his Adam’s apple bobbing as he took in her dazed, adorably blank expression.
"After we finish eating, how about we go upstairs and savor it again?"
It was obvious what he wanted to savor.
Startled, Vesper Grayson immediately snatched her hand back, her eyes wide as she stared at him defensively.
"Jared Hawthorne, don’t push me too far!"
"Who’s to blame? Once you get a taste of Miss Grayson, you just want more."
"That’s just you being greedy," she huffed. "Aren’t you afraid of dying from exhaustion?"
Jared Hawthorne let out a low chuckle, his tone laced with a casual certainty.
"You don’t have to worry about that. My body is more than enough to satisfy Miss Grayson every single time."
Vesper Grayson’s cheeks flushed, and she shot him a glare.
’Is it really appropriate to say these things first thing in the morning?’
...
Jared Hawthorne had already called ahead. Zane Rivers had a last-minute emergency and couldn’t make it, so he had arranged for Miss Lana to host her.
Miss Lana was a veteran agent at The Rivers Group who had later been promoted by Zane Rivers. Now, she was the Vice President of Starlight Media.
"Miss Grayson, my name is Lana Chandler, and I’m the VP of Starlight. Everyone at the company calls me Miss Lana, and you can too, if you’d like."
She had maintained her appearance well, looking to be in her early thirties, so calling her ’Miss Lana’ didn’t feel like an exaggeration.
"Miss Lana, thank you for taking the time," she said in a gentle and polite tone.
"President Rivers really couldn’t make it back this morning, but he’s already briefed me on your needs."
Lana Chandler led her toward the reception room.
Vesper Grayson’s stunningly exquisite face, which could rival any A-list movie star’s, drew frequent glances from the Starlight employees as soon as she appeared. They all started guessing her identity.
The crowd began to whisper amongst themselves.
"Oh my god, that woman who just walked by is gorgeous! Her face is absolutely perfect. Could she be a new artist signed by Miss Nancy?"
"I got a good look just now. She’s all-natural, not a trace of plastic surgery. Her beauty speaks directly to my soul!"
"Even the way she walks has its own flair. Beautiful people just have a different kind of aura."
"It’s more than that. Her looks could easily crush our company’s ’Four Little Flowers’."
"Crush? This isn’t even the same league. It’s a complete dimensional takedown!"
Vesper Grayson, completely unaware of this, followed Lana Chandler into the reception room.
"Please have a seat, Miss Grayson."
Lana Chandler personally prepared a cup of coffee and placed it in front of her, then opened a tablet and handed it over.
"Here is the information for all of Starlight’s artists. You can take a look first."
After speaking, Lana Chandler took a phone call and looked apologetic.
"Miss Grayson, please take your time browsing. I have something to take care of."
"Alright." Vesper Grayson nodded slightly.
Roya Winters was walking over with Finn Summers when she happened to overhear the discussion. She paused, her brow furrowing instinctively.
"Who are you talking about?"
As one of the "Four Little Flowers," Roya Winters had always considered her beauty to be unparalleled. After winning the Golden Rooster Award, she became one of the hottest commodities in the industry, basking in endless glory. She never paid any mind to the other artists at the company.
Suddenly hearing someone being praised so extravagantly, she immediately felt a pang of displeasure.
The moment the crowd saw her, they scattered like birds and beasts.
Finn Summers reached out and grabbed the nearest employee.
"What are you hiding for? Didn’t you hear Roya asking you a question?"
The employee quickly forced a smile. "Roya..."
Everyone knew her relationship with President Rivers was unusual. They were always polite and careful not to offend her, which greatly satisfied her vanity.
But if a more beautiful, more promising artist joined the company, she would absolutely not allow it!
"What’s going on? Did the company sign someone new?" Roya Winters shot him a sideways glance, probing for information.
Her gaze fell on Lana Chandler, who was just walking out of the reception room, and her brow twitched.
’What kind of newcomer is worthy of Miss Lana’s personal attention?’
"Probably. We’re not too sure either."
"Is she very pretty? I heard you all praising her to the skies just now."
"It wasn’t that exaggerated. Everyone has their own charm, their own kind of beauty. Of course... no matter how good-looking she is, she can’t compare to your status in the industry."
After saying that, the man clutched his stomach and quickly made an excuse to slip away.
Roya Winters glanced at Finn Summers, her face cold. "Go find out what’s going on."
Ever since the unpleasant incident at Stellaris Plaza, Zane Rivers hadn’t contacted her and wasn’t answering her calls.
With that, she turned and entered the makeup room.
The previously lively atmosphere instantly chilled with her arrival.
Roya Winters walked straight to her exclusive makeup chair and sat down, her tone naturally imperious.
"Mr. Lawson, do my makeup."
Mark Lawson, who was in the middle of doing Yvonne Lowell’s makeup, paused and looked at her with a troubled expression.
"Roya, please wait a moment. I need to finish Yvonne’s makeup first. She has a promotional shoot soon."
"What do you mean? You think I’m not in a hurry to shoot?"
Roya Winters scoffed, her eyes filled with undisguised contempt.
"She’s just shooting for some bit part. I’m the actual lead. If anyone’s going to wait, it should be her waiting for me!"
Sensing the tense atmosphere, the others in the room quietly slipped out of the makeup room.
In an instant, only the three of them remained in the vast makeup room.
Mark Lawson said, "Roya, I can’t... The schedule for today’s promotional shoot is supporting roles first, then the leads. The order was set a long time ago. I have to finish Yvonne’s makeup first, or it’ll affect the shooting schedule."
Roya Winters’s face instantly turned cold.
"The shooting schedule? I’m the lead of this show. Me being delayed is what will delay the schedule! She’s just a minor supporting character, what does it matter if she shoots a little later? Does she really think she’s someone important?"
Mark Lawson was so anxious that his forehead was beading with sweat as he hurriedly explained.
"Roya, I really can’t. The production team already set the schedule. The supporting cast has to be done first before it’s the leads’ turn. It’s the rule..."
Seeing that he stubbornly refused to do her makeup first, Roya Winters’s expression darkened completely, and her tone carried a naked threat.
"Mark Lawson, don’t you forget, you’re my exclusive makeup artist, personally assigned to me by President Rivers! And now you’re making excuses when I tell you to do my makeup first?"
"Roya, I know... but-but Miss Lana just personally instructed me to help rush the makeup for the promotional shoot. I have to follow the procedure and finish Yvonne’s first. If I mess up the order, Miss Lana... I won’t be able to answer to her."
At these words, Roya Winters’s expression grew even uglier.
She hated it most when people used Lana Chandler or the rules to pressure her.
Yvonne Lowell’s hands, resting on her knees, tightened slightly. She looked up at her. "Roya Winters, if you’re trying to start something, just say it. Why are you taking it out on Mr. Lawson? He’s just following orders!"
On her way back to the reception room from the restroom, Vesper Grayson paused as she passed the makeup room door.
Glancing sideways through the crack of the partially open door, she happened to see a slender but tough-looking back, as well as Roya Winters’s arrogant and domineering face.
’So this is what happens when someone with an innocent face acts so overbearing. Not a trace of beauty left.’
