Chapter 99: Chapter 99: It’s You
She was also one of the Four Junior Actresses, but in this production, she was cast as the second female lead. When it came to experience or popularity, she had never backed down from anyone.
Roya Winters’s expression darkened.
"Who gave you the right to speak? You’re just the second female lead, and you dare challenge me?"
"The second female lead is still a legitimate actress on this crew. The promotional shoot follows a set procedure: supporting cast first, main cast later. That’s the crew’s rule, not mine."
Yvonne Lowell’s tone was calm as she met the other woman’s gaze without a hint of fear.
"Mr. Lawson is following procedure. What gives you the right to throw the rules into chaos and bully the staff just because you’re the female lead?"
"Rules?" Roya Winters sneered. "At this company, I *am* the rules!"
"If you want to throw your weight around, don’t use others as your punching bag."
Yvonne Lowell looked at her, a chill flashing in her eyes. "You’ve won the Golden Rooster Award and you’re basking in the glory, but do you really think that award, that role, was meant for you in the first place?"
Roya Winters’s face fell. "What nonsense are you spouting!"
"Whether it’s nonsense or not, you know the truth better than anyone."
Yvonne Lowell said coolly, "The female lead in that movie was originally supposed to be me. If you weren’t so good at sweet-talking and sucking up, so willing to do whatever it took to grab resources and scheme your way to the top, that opportunity never would have been yours."
"You won an award by seizing an opportunity that should have been mine, and now you think you’re superior to everyone? Is a little stolen glory really worth showing off like this?"
Her weak spot struck, Roya Winters instantly became flustered and enraged.
"Shut up! In the end, you just weren’t skilled enough. Who can you blame for that?"
"You’re right. My skills... in the bedroom... can’t compare to yours."
"Yvonne Lowell, how dare you slander me!"
She lunged forward, raising her hand to slap her.
The instant her hand came down, Yvonne Lowell caught her wrist firmly, her eyes filled with mockery. "Hit a nerve? If you really didn’t do it, why are you so afraid of people talking?"
’For so many years, she had never brought it up, enduring it time and time again.’
’But the other woman, far from showing any restraint, had only become more and more outrageous.’
Seeing them start to fight, Mark Lawson, caught in the middle, broke out in an anxious sweat. "Please, you two, stop fighting!"
’If they spent this much time on makeup instead of arguing, they’d have been done by now.’
"Let go!" Roya Winters struggled desperately, spitting out a threat through gritted teeth, "Yvonne Lowell, you dare cross me? Just you wait. I’ll have you blacklisted!"
Outside the door, Vesper Grayson didn’t watch the rest of the farce. She turned, walked back to the lounge, and picked up a tablet.
She found the profile for an artist named Yvonne Lowell.
Her features were radiant, her eyes clear and bright. She had a straight, exquisitely shaped nose and soft, natural lips. Her face was open and striking, vibrant without being gaudy. Her skin was dewy and luminous. The overall impression was one of pure, radiant beauty and a clean, transparent aura.
She took a photo of the screen and sent it to Mr. Spencer.
"I want a complete file on this person. Within twenty minutes."
When Lana Chandler returned, she saw that Vesper hadn’t looked at the iPad on the table, but was sitting quietly with a cup of coffee. Her back was perfectly straight as she gazed out the window, exuding an aura of graceful sophistication. Her skin was fair and delicate, the lines of her profile exquisitely smooth, as if a work of nature.
’She had been in the entertainment industry for nearly twenty years and had managed countless artists, but this was the first time she had ever met a woman as stunningly beautiful as Vesper Grayson.’
’If she ever decided to become an actress, she would dominate the scene. No one could compete.’
"Miss Grayson, have you found a candidate you like?"
Lana Chandler smiled and sat down across from her.
"This one’s not bad." Vesper Grayson’s fingertip tapped the tablet, pointing to Yvonne Lowell’s photo.
Lana Chandler glanced at the screen and, without changing her expression, tactfully tried to dissuade her. "Yvonne Lowell is one of the Four Junior Actresses, but she’s too blunt and inflexible. Her popularity doesn’t compare to the others. Miss Grayson, would you like to consider some other candidates?"
As she spoke, she casually pulled up Roya Winters’s profile.
"Roya is one of the hottest movie stars in the industry right now. She just won the Golden Rooster Award, so she’s at the peak of her fame. She has that pure and sweet image, is very popular with the public, and has excellent industry recognition. Many brands are fighting to work with her."
"No need. I want Yvonne Lowell. I’d like to meet her privately before making a final decision."
Vesper Grayson’s tone was calm, but it held a finality that brooked no argument.
Lana Chandler was taken aback. She gazed at Vesper’s calm, exquisite profile and finally gave a slight nod. "At this time, Yvonne Lowell is doing a promotional shoot here at the company. I can take you there."
「The Photo Studio.」
The lighting on the set was soft and even, the backdrop simple yet elegant. The crew members were all at their posts, moving with quiet efficiency.
In the center of the shot, Yvonne Lowell was dressed in a simple, chic outfit. She was in peak form; every expression was relaxed and striking. Just like in her photo, she was radiant and pure, with a clean, poised aura.
Vesper Grayson stood a short distance away, quietly watching the woman in front of the camera. She had already made up her mind.
...
"Roya, don’t waste your anger on her," Finn Summers murmured, following behind her. "Yvonne Lowell is just a case of sour grapes. She’s obviously jealous of you. What’s important is that you’re more popular and your position is more secure than hers. With her inflexibility and unlikable personality, it’s only a matter of time before she’s forced out of the business."
Roya Winters furrowed her brow. ’Of course she wouldn’t stoop to arguing with that kind of person. She was just worried those awful words would get back to Zane Rivers.’
The two of them had just walked into the photo studio when they saw Lana Chandler standing beside the camera with an unfamiliar figure. They stopped in their tracks.
Finn Summers lowered his voice. "Roya, that’s Miss Lana... The person next to her, you don’t think she’s a new artist, do you?"
’For Miss Lana to personally bring a newcomer to the studio right after they joined... that’s completely against protocol!’
Roya Winters narrowed her eyes slightly and walked forward with a smile.
"Miss Lana, what brings you here?"
Lana Chandler glanced at her, a faint smile on her face. "Just checking on the progress of your shoot."
"And this is?" Roya Winters asked, her gaze shifting impassively to the person beside her. There was a flicker of suspicion in her eyes; that profile looked exceptionally familiar, as if she had seen it somewhere before.
Lana Chandler began the introduction. "Miss Grayson, allow me to introduce you. This is the foremost of our Four Junior Actresses, Roya Winters."
Vesper Grayson slowly turned to meet Roya Winters’s gaze. She gave a slight nod, her expression cold and distant.
"It’s you!"
Roya Winters froze on the spot as she got a clear look at the woman’s face.
’That last time at Stellaris Plaza... if it hadn’t been for her, Zane Rivers wouldn’t have given her the cold shoulder for so long.’
’Lately, Zane Rivers had been taking that bitch Jamie Linton everywhere, even making her his personal assistant. The two of them were practically inseparable, 24/7.’
A look of suspicion crossed Lana Chandler’s face. "Miss Grayson, you and Roya know each other?"
Vesper Grayson smiled faintly. "We had the pleasure of meeting once. Miss Winters is quite... unique. She left a lasting impression on me."
At these words, Roya Winters’s expression faltered. A flash of resentment and embarrassment crossed her eyes, and she forced a stiff smile.
"You must be joking, Miss Grayson. Last time was just a misunderstanding. Isn’t it all water under the bridge now?"
’She had already apologized. What did this woman mean by bringing it up again?’
Lana Chandler was sharp; one look was all it took for her to see the two had a history.
’No wonder Miss Grayson hadn’t even batted an eye when she recommended Roya Winters earlier and just rejected her outright.’
Roya Winters had wanted to ask what Vesper Grayson was doing at Galaxy Entertainment, but now she couldn’t bring herself to say a word. Dejected, she walked over to the lounge area, but her gaze remained fixed on them, not moving for a second.
When she saw Vesper Grayson’s gaze fall on Yvonne Lowell from time to time, her expression darkened.
’What exactly was the relationship between Yvonne Lowell and Vesper Grayson?’
