My Class is Null, But I Always Get the Best Outcome
Chapter 290: First TestKai walked through Mythal after another shift helping with reconstruction, and somewhere along the way, a thought caught up with him.
He’d received Water Authority, Storm Authority, Tiamat Synchronization, and three S-Grade pieces of equipment.
He hadn’t actually tested any of it properly.
He looked down at his hand, a faint blue glow gathering around his fingers. "Water Authority."
Crimson sparks flickered to life beside it. "Storm Authority."
"You should test them somewhere away from the city," Tiamat said.
Kai smiled. "That’s what I’m doing."
"Good."
"You sound relieved."
"I would prefer not to watch you destroy another section of Mythal while experimenting."
Kai laughed. "Fair."
He walked toward one of the city’s outer sections without any real destination in mind, just walking. Then the air ahead rippled, a distortion forming between two damaged buildings, expanding into a gate.
[B-Rank Dungeon Found.]
[B-Rank Dungeon: Waterfall Ruins.]
Kai read the name. "Waterfall Ruins."
"Appropriate," Tiamat said.
"You knew it was going to be a water dungeon?"
"No."
"Then why say that?"
"Because the name contains the word waterfall."
Kai paused. "...Right."
Tiamat laughed quietly.
He stepped through, and the world shifted around him into an enormous valley. Towering cliffs rose on every side, hundreds of waterfalls pouring from the rock face, some enormous, others thin streams trickling down ruined structures.
Ancient bridges stretched across the ravines below, broken temples sitting half-submerged in shallow pools, mist rolling low across the valley floor.
Kai looked around. "This really is perfect."
"For your Water Authority."
"Exactly."
He took a step, water flowing beneath his boots. "Let’s see what I can do."
Movement broke through the mist ahead.
[Ruins Beast — Level: 63.]
Kai didn’t draw his weapon. He raised one hand instead. "Let’s start simple."
Water rose from the nearby pool, gathering around his palm. He tried to shape it into a blade, but the water trembled uncontrollably.
SPLASH!
It collapsed onto the ground.
Kai stared at the puddle. "...That was worse than expected."
"Too much mana."
He turned his head. "You could have said that earlier."
"I wanted to see if you could figure it out."
"You’re going to be annoying, aren’t you?"
"Probably."
He tried again, using less mana this time, a small amount of water gathering and compressing slowly, growing denser, then thinner, then finally settling into a stable shape.
A blade formed.
Kai’s eyes lit up. "There."
It wobbled slightly. He adjusted his control, and it steadied.
The Ruins Beast charged, and Kai swung.
SLASH!
The water blade tore across its side, the beast thrown backward by the force behind it. Kai studied the wound.
"It’s not just creating water."
"Correct."
"I’m controlling its pressure."
"Now you’re beginning to understand."
He kept experimenting instead of finishing the fight outright. A concentrated cutting edge. A rotating shield of water. A narrow projectile. A flexible whip that curved midair. Thin threads he tried wrapping around the beast’s limbs.
Some worked. Some collapsed. Some were too slow to matter.
"Too much," Tiamat commented at one point. "Too slow." Another attempt. "You’re forcing it." Then finally, "Better."
Kai looked annoyed. "You’re enjoying this."
"Very much."
He laughed despite himself.
The Ruins Beast broke free and charged directly at him, and Kai didn’t panic. He gathered water into his palm one more time, this time compressing it into a tiny, dense point instead of a large weapon, pressure building rapidly.
"Let’s try this."
He released it.
BOOM!
The compressed water pierced straight through the beast, and it collapsed instantly.
[Distortion Applied.]
[Drop Quality: Optimized.]
Materials scattered across the wet stone: Water Mana Crystals, Ruin Stone, a Monster Core, a strip of Aquatic Hide. Kai gathered them by hand, nothing unusual about the drop, just another clean B-Rank clear.
He checked his status afterward. A new category had appeared.
[Authority Synchronization.]
[Water Authority Synchronization: 1%.]
[Storm Authority Synchronization: 1%.]
"So both are separate," Kai said.
"Yes."
"And they’re both stuck at one percent?"
"Your synchronization with my Authorities is currently limited."
"Can they grow?"
"Yes."
"How?"
"Use them."
Kai smiled. "That’s simple."
"Understanding them is not."
He reached an open section of the valley and looked up at the sky. "Then let’s try Storm."
He raised his hand, and crimson lightning gathered around his fingers instantly, wind swirling in a tight spiral around him.
His expression shifted. "...That’s powerful."
"You are only using a fragment."
"This is one percent?"
"Yes."
Kai grinned. "Then I definitely want five."
Silence.
"...You’re not telling me."
"No."
"I knew it."
He raised his hand higher, wind spreading outward across the valley. Clouds began gathering overhead, crimson lightning crawling through them. The waterfalls bent sideways under the sudden gust, mist scattering across the whole area, loose rocks lifting off the ground.
Kai looked up, genuinely impressed. "...I made a storm."
"A small one."
He looked offended. "It’s still a storm."
"Barely."
He laughed, and then the storm destabilized without warning, lightning striking the ground several meters away.
BOOM!
"...Okay," Kai said, stepping back.
Another bolt crashed into a ruined tower nearby.
BOOM!
"That’s a problem."
"You created it faster than you learned to control it."
He tried to suppress it, and the wind only grew more chaotic in response. "Any advice?"
"Stop controlling every individual movement."
Kai paused. "...What?"
She explained that he was treating the storm like hundreds of separate objects, trying to command every gust, every bolt, every current of air individually. Instead he needed to establish the Authority itself as the governing rule over the whole area, not micromanage every piece of it.
Kai closed his eyes, letting go of the individual threads, focusing instead on the storm as a single whole. The wind stabilized. The lightning began following the storm’s natural rhythm instead of striking randomly. The clouds settled into a slow rotation.
He opened his eyes. "I get it."
"Explain."
"Authority isn’t about controlling every individual thing." A pause. "It’s about imposing a rule on everything inside the area."
Tiamat went quiet for a moment.
"Now you’re beginning to understand Authority."
Kai looked at the waterfalls, an idea forming. "What happens if I combine them?"
"Try."
He raised both hands. Water rose from the falls, wind pulling it skyward, lightning threading through the rising streams. The valley filled with floating rivers of water, crackling faintly with contained electricity.
Kai’s eyes widened. "...That’s crazy."
"It’s inefficient."
His expression fell. "You couldn’t let me enjoy it for five seconds?"
"You need to improve it."
He laughed. "Fine."
He tested smaller combinations after that. Wind speeding up a water blade until it cut cleaner and faster. Lightning threading through a compressed water spear. A rotating shield of water with wind deflecting incoming projectiles at the edges. A cloud of suspended droplets charged with electricity, hovering menacingly before he could decide what to do with it.
The results stayed inconsistent. One combination detonated directly in front of him.
BOOM!
Kai’s hair stood on end, singed slightly at the edges.
Silence.
"That was poor."
"...I know."
"You look ridiculous."
He laughed. "You really are enjoying this."
He pushed deeper into the dungeon, the waterfalls growing larger, the ruins older, the monsters stronger.
[Ruins Beast — Level: 64.]
He handled the next wave far more efficiently, weaving Water and Storm into his usual fighting style instead of relying purely on the Fractured Blade. A water blade cut through one. A gust of wind threw a second into a stone wall. Lightning finished the third clean.
He was learning fast, but he didn’t stop there. He wanted to know the limits, not just the basics.
After several more fights, he reached a massive stone bridge, an enormous waterfall pouring through the center of the dungeon beyond it, the outline of another ruin visible through the falling water.
Kai looked ahead. "We’re getting close."
"Nearly halfway."
He nodded, glancing down at the equipment he’d been carrying this whole time without touching.
"I’ve learned enough about the Authorities." A faint smile crossed his face. "Now I want to see what the other rewards can do."
He opened his inventory, and three glowing silhouettes appeared in front of him. The Stormforged Spear. The Tidal Edge. The Tempest Sovereign Armor.
He reached toward them, and they began materializing at his touch.
"Now we test your weapons," Tiamat said.
Kai smiled. "Finally."
