Kai dropped from the floating platform, wind catching his body immediately. Instead of a hard landing, the Tempest Sovereign Armor reacted on its own, wind erupting beneath his feet to slow his descent. He touched down lightly, scanning the valley spread out below.

Hundreds of Storm Beasts covered the ground.

He smiled. "Looks like we still have plenty to clear."

"You were expecting an empty path?" Tiamat asked.

He glanced toward the distant storm. "I was hoping."

"Hope is not a strategy."

Kai laughed. "You’re starting to sound like Elden."

"I don’t know whether to be offended."

The Storm Beasts noticed him immediately, several leaping down from the cliffs, others emerging directly out of the storm overhead.

[Storm Beast — Level: 62.]

[Storm Beast — Level: 63.]

[Storm Beast — Level: 64.]

Kai didn’t hesitate. The Stormforged Spear formed in his hand, lightning crawling along the shaft, and he thrust forward.

CRACK!

The first beast went flying backward. Another attacked from behind, and he didn’t turn, the wind around his armor shifting on its own to throw off the strike. He spun.

SHING!

Tidal Edge caught it across the side, and he followed with a kick augmented by the armor.

BOOM!

The monster crashed into the cliff wall.

He landed, breathing steady. "The equipment really does work well together."

"You are only beginning to understand it."

The fight that followed came smoother than anything before. Air Step carried him clear of one charge, Tempest Fang flying past him mid-transition to catch the beast with a lightning burst. CRACK! Verdant Fang cut through a second, compressed wind slicing clean through its body. A third tried to flee, and Thread Caster wrapped silver lines around its leg, yanking it backward into Rootbreaker’s downward swing.

BOOM!

The ground cracked open beneath the impact.

Kai looked around, satisfied. "That was smooth."

"Better."

"I’m getting a compliment every few minutes now."

"Don’t become dependent on them."

The canyon changed shape as he pushed deeper, the chaotic floating platforms giving way to massive black towers rising from the valley floor, glowing blue runes carved across their surfaces. Lightning struck the tops repeatedly, energy tracing down each tower and vanishing into the ground.

Kai watched a strike hit. "Those weren’t here before."

"You were in the outer region."

He studied the nearest tower. "So these are part of the dungeon’s core system?"

"Something similar."

He touched the stone, and a violent gust erupted immediately, forcing him to pull back.

"...It’s controlling the storm."

He stepped away, and three towers activated at once, the wind shifting hard, a massive storm rolling toward him across the valley.

"Storm Authority," he said, raising his hand. The wind around him answered, but instead of overpowering the dungeon’s own storm, the two forces simply collided.

He smiled. "So this place actually has its own Authority-like control."

"Not Authority. But close enough to imitate one."

The storm reached him a moment later, wind tearing rocks loose and hurling them like projectiles, lightning striking randomly across the arena, floating platforms spinning wildly. He used the armor to accelerate between them, Air Step and Spectral Shift stringing together as he narrowly avoided one bolt after another. A platform gave out beneath his feet, and Thread Caster caught the ledge before he fell, swinging him onto solid ground.

"This dungeon really doesn’t want me getting deeper," he said, catching his breath.

"Then perhaps you’re going the right way."

He laughed. "I was thinking the same thing."

More monsters woke inside the storm, phasing into the wind to strike before vanishing again. Instead of chasing them, Kai raised his hand.

"Storm Authority."

The wind shifted at his command, exposing several monsters mid-transition. His weapons launched at once.

BOOM!

CRACK!

SHING!

Four fell nearly simultaneously.

"That’s much easier," he said, grinning.

"You stopped fighting the monsters."

"I started fighting the environment."

"Exactly."

The storm weakened eventually, giving way to a region full of enormous floating ruins, ancient buildings drifting between the cliffs, some upside down, others split in half. He landed on one, finding old carvings inside depicting figures standing beneath massive storms, some controlling lightning outright, others surrounded by water.

"This place had people?"

"Most dungeons preserve traces of what came before."

"You don’t sound surprised."

"I’m not."

He studied another mural, the figures all facing the same central structure, a gigantic tower standing at the heart of the storm.

He looked toward the horizon. "...So that’s where we’re going."

The deeper he traveled, the quieter it became. No monsters. No lightning. No wind at all, like the dungeon itself had simply stopped breathing.

He slowed. "...This is worse."

"Yes."

"Why?"

"Because everything that lives here has already moved away."

Ahead, a gigantic black gate sat wedged between two cliffs, the storm beyond it completely still, a circular cloud formation hanging directly overhead. Lightning flashed only at its very center.

He gripped the Fractured Blade. "Boss room."

The gate didn’t react at first. Then a low grinding groan built underneath him.

GRRRRRRRRRR...

The gate opened, and a pressure wave burst outward, his cloak and hair snapping backward. The Ashen Seal activated at once, weapons falling into orbit around him.

"Finally."

"Don’t underestimate it."

He stepped through. "I won’t."

The arena beyond was enormous, a circular battlefield floating in the center of an endless storm, massive pools of water ringing its edge, lightning striking the center in steady pulses, platforms rotating slowly around it all. At the center stood a gigantic creature, its body shifting between black stone, condensed cloud, flowing water, and raw lightning.

[Tempest Sovereign.]

[Level: 70.]

Kai looked up at it. "...Seventy."

"Yes."

He tightened his grip on both weapons. "Then this is the first time I’m fighting something at the threshold."

The Sovereign roared.

BOOOOOOM!

The whole arena shook.

It raised one arm, and the entire storm responded, hundreds of bolts descending at once. Kai used Storm Authority to bend several away from him, the rest striking his armor directly.

BOOM!

He held his ground. The Sovereign followed with a gigantic water serpent, and Kai raised Tidal Edge.

"Tidal Dominion."

The serpent froze mid-strike. He pulled, and its own body twisted sideways, crashing into the arena wall instead.

His eyes widened. "...I can control its attacks."

"You can interfere with them."

"That’s even better."

The Sovereign shifted tactics, abandoning direct elemental strikes for environmental control instead. The arena itself began rotating, platforms flying toward him, lightning striking from blind angles, water flooding across the battlefield. Kai kept moving, Air Step, Spectral Shift, Thread Caster stringing together while Tempest Fang attacked independently around him. The Sovereign tried to pin him down, and he switched to Flame Swordsman, a fire burst launching him sideways past a strike that would’ve caught him square.

He laughed. "You’re smarter than the monsters outside."

"It’s a boss."

"Fair."

The Sovereign flooded the arena, water rising fast. Kai activated Water Authority, and several of its attacks weakened noticeably before landing. One massive water spear still hit his armor.

BOOM!

He slid backward, but the impact registered as far less than it should have.

"...That was weaker."

"You suppressed it."

"Not completely."

"Your control is still crude."

He grinned. "But it works."

"Good enough."

He stopped simply dodging after that and started claiming the battlefield outright, water rising around his feet, storm clouds gathering overhead, weapons orbiting faster.

"Let’s see how much I can take away."

The Sovereign launched a massive water blast, and Kai raised his hand, the attack losing cohesion mid-flight, part of it collapsing entirely, the rest bending away from him. He followed immediately, the Stormforged Spear driving forward.

CRACK!

Lightning pierced its side. Tidal Edge followed.

SHING!

A compressed water blade tore through its armor, and Tempest Fang circled behind for a finishing strike.

BOOM!

The boss staggered.

Desperate now, it drew every pool of water in the arena upward at once, the whole battlefield beginning to flood.

"It’s gathering everything," Tiamat said, tone sharp.

"How much?"

"Nearly all the water in the arena."

Kai smiled. "Then it made a mistake."

"Why?"

He raised his hand. "It put everything under my Authority."

He activated Tidal Dominion at full strength, and the entire arena froze in place. The Sovereign tried to force it forward. Nothing moved.

Kai pulled his hand toward himself, and the whole body of water reversed direction, crashing straight into its own creator.

BOOOOOOOOOOM!

The Sovereign vanished beneath the wave.

Kai didn’t wait. He raised the Stormforged Spear, lightning gathering, activating Storm Authority and Tidal Dominion together, wind wrapping around him, water spiraling along the blade.

"Now," Tiamat said.

He launched.

WHOOSH!

The Sovereign surged back up to meet him, and Kai’s body shifted on its own, Distortion guiding him through the narrow opening. Null Fang formed in his grip.

SHING!

The black blade cut clean through its defensive core. He switched instantly.

CRACK!

Lightning detonated inside the wound. Tidal Edge followed.

BOOOOOOM!

The Sovereign’s body cracked apart entirely, the artificial storm collapsing around the wreckage.

Silence.

The boss dissolved. Kai stood alone at the center of the arena.

[Boss Defeated.]

[Dungeon Cleared.]

He exhaled.

[Level Up.]

[Player: Kai Rosefield.]

[Level: 71.]

"...Seventy-one."

Another notification followed.

[Rank Increased: C-Rank to A-Rank!]

His expression shifted. "...C-Rank to A-Rank?" He read it again. "So everything above seventy is the new rank."

Level 70 hadn’t just been another milestone. It had been a threshold into an entirely new classification.

He pulled up his status.

[Player: Kai Rosefield.]

[Rank: A.]

[Class: Null.]

[Level: 71.]

[Exp Requirement: 1000/576,234]

He scrolled down.

[Attributes.]

[Strength: 110. (+290)]

[Vitality: 112. (+370)]

[Agility: 108. (+500)]

[Magic: 209. (+290)]

He froze on the last line. "...209?"

He checked it again. "What?"

His Magic had spiked far higher than he remembered it sitting. He immediately checked his equipment bonuses, and while substantial, they didn’t account for the full jump.

"My equipment shouldn’t have increased my Magic this much."

"It didn’t."

He paused. "Then what did?"

"My Authority."

His eyes widened. She explained that the Authorities weren’t purely abilities he activated on demand. His body was slowly changing to accommodate them, and the higher his synchronization climbed, the more his natural attributes would shift permanently. Water Authority had already begun reinforcing his magical capacity. Storm would eventually influence other stats as synchronization deepened.

"So this is permanent?"

"Yes."

His eyes brightened. "It’s not equipment."

"No."

"It’s not a temporary buff."

"No."

He looked down at his own hands. "It’s actually becoming part of me."

"Exactly."

He realized the implication almost immediately, checking the numbers again.

[Water Authority Synchronization: 1%.]

[Storm Authority Synchronization: 1%.]

Only one percent, and his Magic had already climbed to 209.

"...What happens when I get stronger?" he asked, eyes shining.

"Then more of my power becomes compatible with you."

"And my stats?"

"Will continue changing."

He looked at the number one more time, a grin slowly spreading. "So this is only the beginning."

"Yes."

Several drops scattered across the arena floor a moment later, and he gathered them by hand. Tempest Crystals. Stormsteel. Condensed Mana Cores. Lightning-infused monster materials, nothing flashy, just solid, useful resources.

"These should sell well," he said, stowing them.

"You’re thinking about money immediately?"

He laughed. "We’re rebuilding a city." A beat. "Every bit helps."

He walked toward the exit as the dungeon began collapsing around him, the artificial storm dissipating, the towers powering down one after another, the floating ruins finally falling apart.

He reached the gate and looked back once before stepping through.

CRACK!

BOOM!

Tempest Hollow collapsed completely behind him.
