Chapter 170
"World Bind Formation!"
The formation instantly activated. A terrifying binding force descended upon the Beastman, the space around him seemed to solidify, and his movements were instantly restricted as invisible forces locked him firmly in place.
He was immobilized, completely restrained, as if countless invisible chains had wrapped around his body and pinned him down... a chained prey waiting for nothing more than to be slaughtered.
The faces of the Red Dragon Sect members lit up instantly, their confidence soared, and their victory was certain. At least, that was what they believed, because after all, not even someone as powerful as their Sect Lord could easily escape from the World Bind Formation, and this Beastman... he had simply stood there and allowed himself to be caught.
That was his biggest mistake... his arrogance, his pride, his underestimation of them. Now... he would die.
The Sect Lord and the rest didn’t waste any more time, immediately beginning to charge their most powerful attacks. Qi surged, power gathered, and dozens upon dozens of terrifying attacks were unleashed simultaneously.
Sword lights, energy blasts, techniques, and killing moves... all of them were launched toward one single person, the Beastman.
The attacks tore through the air from every direction, carrying enough destructive force to turn an ordinary cultivator into nothing but dust, and just when those attacks were about to strike him... the Beastman’s crimson eyes finally showed an expression. But it wasn’t fear, it wasn’t panic, and it wasn’t even surprise; it was irritation and anger.
So weak.
The thought appeared in his mind. Why so weak...? Then... a dark red aura suddenly erupted from his body, spreading outward faster and faster until it suddenly transformed into something resembling an enormous maw.
The terrifying dark-red maw opened wide, and then... it swallowed every single attack coming toward him all at once, just like that.
The countless attacks that had been launched by the Red Dragon Sect were consumed as if they were nothing, with no explosion, no clash, and no resistance, as they simply vanished into the enormous dark-red maw.
The expressions of everyone present changed, but before any of them could understand what was happening... the dark-red aura suddenly transformed again.
Claw-like limbs erupted from it... one, ten, a hundred, hundreds of them... appearing from every direction and moving with terrifying speed.
Before anyone could understand what was happening, screams suddenly erupted throughout the forest.
"AAARGH!"
"NO!"
"HELP!"
Cries of pain and agony escaped from the cultivators who had been casting and maintaining the World Bind Formation as the claw-like limbs tore into their chests, ripping through flesh and bone, and then violently tearing their hearts out.
Blood sprayed through the air, and the cultivators died before they could even scream a second time. It happened too quickly, far too quickly.
One moment they had been maintaining the formation, the next... they were dead, their lifeless bodies collapsing to the ground one after another.
The remaining Red Dragon Sect members were completely spooked, their faces went pale, and terror immediately filled their eyes. No one needed to tell the Sect Lord or the others that they had made a huge mistake; they understood it now.
This man... was far from normal, far, far beyond normal. He had just wiped out a huge section of their forces as if they were nothing, without even a struggle and without even a proper fight, slaughtering them with such terrifying ease that the confidence of the remaining cultivators completely shattered.
"RUN!"
Someone finally screamed, and that was all it took. The Red Dragon Sect members turned around and fled, running as fast as they could, not caring about their formation anymore, not caring about their fellow disciples, not caring about the Imperial reward, and only wanting to live.
They desperately rushed through the forest, hoping to leave the Beast Forest as quickly as possible, having come here as hunters and believing themselves to be predators, but now... they were prey, terrified prey desperately running for their lives.
But would the Beastman allow his prey to escape? The answer couldn’t have been any clearer.
Two minutes later, Shi Gubing was running at full speed, pushing himself to the absolute limit and using everything in his arsenal... his skills, his artifacts, his treasures, and even the talismans he had been keeping as trump cards.
Everything he had on hand was being used, and yet... it still wasn’t enough, not enough to escape the demon that was after him, and not enough to escape those terrifying claws. And it wasn’t only him who was running; they had all run. Every single one of them.
The clan lords, the leaders, his seniors, his juniors... everyone who had come with the Red Dragon Sect had abandoned everything and fled for their lives, having come here with overwhelming confidence and believing themselves to be hunters, yet now... they were nothing more than prey.
Every few seconds, as Shi Gubing rushed through the forest, the sound of another dying scream would ring out behind him... a scream filled with pain, a scream filled with despair, and then... silence. Another one had died. Again, and again.
They were dying one after another. Even the mighty Sect Lord himself... the pinnacle of power in Shi Gubing’s eyes, the man whom he had always regarded as the absolute epitome of strength... even he had screamed in agony before his voice suddenly went silent. He was dead as well.
Shi Gubing’s breathing became increasingly ragged as he ran, his thoughts churning chaotically inside his head while his head began to ache from the sheer terror and desperation.
He couldn’t think, he couldn’t understand, and he could only run... run faster, run farther, run for his life.
As time passed and he continued sensing the people around him dying one after another, Shi Gubing began to cry, unable to stop the tears streaming down his face as he ran while death was approaching, getting closer and closer until he could feel it like an invisible presence chasing directly behind him, with nothing he could do to escape it.
Another agonizing scream suddenly filled Shi Gubing’s ears.
"AAARGH!"
Then... silence. Another person was dead. More and more people died with every passing second, and the feeling of death approaching him became stronger and stronger, clamping around his neck like an iron vice as he felt as if he was suffocating and as if invisible hands were already tightening around his throat.
He desperately tried to calm himself... calm down, keep running, don’t look back, just keep running... but nothing worked, because his fear was simply too great.
All the Golden Core cultivators were dead, every single one. The Sect Lord... a figure Shi Gubing had always regarded as the epitome of power... was dead, and he had heard the man’s agonizing cries before they suddenly disappeared. But that wasn’t the only thing.
Even Elder Yan... that hot-tempered elder whose pride and ego were so enormous that he would rather die than show weakness before anyone... even he had begged for mercy. Shi Gubing had heard it; he had heard the elder’s desperate voice, he had heard him begging, and then... his cries of pain had rung out clearly through the forest before he too went silent.
All of them were dying, and they were dying fast, far too fast.
Shi Gubing’s heart raced harder and harder as he continued rushing forward, pushing himself beyond his limits, squeezing out the last shred of willpower he had left, and forcing his body to run even faster.
His legs were screaming, his lungs felt as if they were burning, and his entire body was beginning to weaken, but he didn’t stop because he couldn’t stop. If he stopped... he would die. He had to keep moving, he had to survive.
And then, while running, Shi Gubing suddenly came to a realization: his surroundings... were silent, totally and utterly silent. There were no more cries of pain, no more desperate screams, no more rushing footsteps, nothing.
The forest had become eerily quiet. Yet that silence didn’t bring Shi Gubing even the slightest sense of relief; if anything, it filled his chest with an even deeper dread.
His heart sank, and a terrible feeling suddenly emerged from the deepest part of his instincts, as if death was already standing right before him... and he simply couldn’t see it yet.
A deep, primal fear erupted from the pit of Shi Gubing’s stomach, his body trembled as he rushed forward, continuing to move through nothing but sheer willpower, and he didn’t even know how much longer his body could continue.
But then... light. His eyes suddenly caught sight of it. A ray of light appeared ahead... the exit! His gaze sharpened, hope instantly appeared within his eyes, and he was close, finally close. For the first time in what felt like an eternity, Shi Gubing felt a tiny amount of relief. I’m going to make it. I’m going to escape.
But that relief didn’t last, not even for a second, as it was brutally shattered like fragile glass being smashed against the ground. Because before Shi Gubing could reach the exit... a figure appeared right before the road.
Shi Gubing’s pupils contracted, he stopped dead, and his heart nearly leaped out of his chest. Standing there was a figure clad in dark robes that seemed to have been made from the skin of some terrifying beast.
Blood covered his body, especially his claws, which were completely drenched in blood and dripped continuously, falling onto the ground one drop after another. The Beastman stood there calmly, as if he had simply been waiting for him.
Shi Gubing halted completely, his heart raced violently as he stared at the Beastman, and then... his gaze shifted.
The Beastman was holding someone by the neck... someone Shi Gubing knew. His eyes widened. It was none other than his friend.
"Gao..."
The Beastman was holding Gao by the neck with one hand. Gao’s limbs were twisted unnaturally, as if his body had been slammed into the ground by a gigantic boulder, and his body was barely moving while looking to be on the very edge of death.
Blood covered him, his breathing was weak and almost nonexistent, yet he was still alive. Perhaps sensing someone’s gaze on him, Gao slowly opened his eyes, his blurry gaze shifted, and then he saw Shi Gubing.
His eyes widened slightly, his blood-covered mouth trembled, he forced it open, and with the last bit of strength left inside his body... he spoke only one word.
"Help..."
Shi Gubing’s mind short-circuited. He didn’t even properly register Gao’s words, because after all... he was trying to survive himself, and everything he had witnessed was telling him the same thing: I’m going to die. I’m going to die here.
The Beastman’s gaze remained as calm as ever, with not even the slightest trace of emotion within his eyes. It was almost as if wiping out a powerful sect like the Red Dragon Sect was nothing more than a side chore to him... something insignificant, something barely worth remembering.
His crimson eyes shifted toward Shi Gubing’s terrified face, and then... he raised the youth he was holding closer. The Beastman leaned toward Gao’s ear and whispered calmly.
"It seems you have terrible luck."
As he said that... his hand tightened around Gao’s head. Shi Gubing’s eyes widened to their absolute limit.
"No..."
He couldn’t even finish the word. Right before his supremely terrified eyes... the Beastman violently tore Gao’s head right off his body.
CRACK!
Blood sprayed through the air, Gao’s lifeless body went limp, and in the next moment... a terrified scream escaped Shi Gubing’s throat.
