Chapter 180
Liyu looked down at his hand. The bones were mangled and twisted at an unnatural angle, his fingers bent in a way that would have made any ordinary person feel a chill just from looking at it; yet Liyu couldn’t help but feel a strange sensation stirring within his chest.
The feeling had nothing to do with the condition of his hand. Instead... it was the fact that this felt like some sort of reverse déjà vu. Normally, he was the one breaking and mangling someone’s hands. He was the one standing over his opponent while they struggled with injuries.
He was the one causing the pain. But what would you know? This time, he was the one getting his hands mangled and broken instead.
Liyu shook his head. He didn’t dwell on it. Without even a single second of hesitation crossing his face, his fangs glinted. Then he bit down on his own hand.
CRUNCH!
His fangs sank into his flesh as he forcibly shifted the displaced bones back into their proper positions.
CRACK!
A sickening sound echoed. The bones snapped back into place. Pain immediately shot through every nerve in his body. It was sharp. Hot. Violent. The kind of pain that would have made most people instinctively pull away.
But not a hint of it appeared on Liyu’s face. His expression remained as calm as ever. He didn’t even blink. Then he used his newly straightened hand to grab the other twisted one. His fingers tightened. And...
CRACK!
He snapped the second hand back into place. Another wave of scorching pain shot through his nerves. Yet instead of crying out... Liyu smiled. His gaze slowly dropped to his bloodied hands. Blood covered his fingers. His body was battered. His clothes were torn. His entire body was aching from the punishment he had suffered.
And yet... he smiled even wider. It wasn’t a normal human grin. No. It was Liyu’s signature mad grin. The grin of someone who had long since stopped viewing pain as something that should be feared.
"This is fun," Liyu said with a small smile.
The System, which had been observing everything from the side, finally spoke. Its tone sounded slightly subdued.
[Host... have you lost your mind?]
Liyu raised an eyebrow. Then he shook his head.
"No, Sys."
He flexed his newly restored fingers.
"I am perfectly fine."
He looked at Haoran. The white-eyed figure stood calmly in the distance, his body still surrounded by the terrifying aura of the State of Overflow. Liyu’s smile faded slightly.
"If so, I believe that you should be able to tell that there is no way I can take the win at this rate."
The System remained silent. Liyu continued staring at Haoran.
"The current Guan Haoran is just... someone who is too much."
His expression became serious.
"He’s too powerful for me to even dream of beating right now."
And that wasn’t an exaggeration. The fact that Haoran could throw one of those earth-shattering, mind-numbing punches known as the Behemoth Punch as casually as throwing an ordinary punch was enough to tell anyone that Liyu currently had almost no chance of winning.
That single punch had nearly folded his body in half. Even after blocking it, his arms had been mangled. And Haoran hadn’t even looked like he had exerted himself.
Liyu stared at the guy for several seconds. Then a thought that had been crossing his mind surfaced once more. He turned his attention toward the System.
"Hey, Sys."
[Yes, Host?]
"Tell me... how many times do you think he can keep using those Behemoth Punches?"
Liyu asked directly, without much thought. The System had far more processing power than him to begin with. If there was anyone who could calculate something like that, then it had to be the System.
There was a brief silence. Only a microsecond. Then...
[Analysis complete.]
The System’s response came. And the answer made Liyu’s entire body twitch in pure disbelief. His eyes twitched. His mouth twitched. His ears twitched. His nose twitched. Who knew? Maybe his very soul had twitched after hearing the answer.
[Host, based on the fact that there has been no meaningful decrease... or rather, not even a single measurable decrease... in the World Qi surrounding Guan Haoran’s body...]
The System paused briefly.
[I would say that he could perhaps use an infinite number of those attacks.]
Liyu’s mouth nearly hit the ground. Infinite? His eyes widened. Infinite Behemoth Punches? That was insane. Absolutely ridiculous. Liyu had been expecting the System to give him some sort of limit. Ten? A hundred?
Maybe even a thousand if Haoran’s current state was truly as monstrous as it seemed. But infinite? How the hell was he supposed to fight someone who could casually throw out an endless number of attacks capable of sending him flying like a ragdoll?
Well, thinking about it now... perhaps it actually made a twisted kind of sense. The guy in his current form seemed to have infinite Qi as well.
And since the Behemoth Punch was powered by Qi, having limitless Qi essentially meant having the ability to use an infinite number of those punches. That would surely be enough to one-shot anyone below the Foundation Realm.
Of course, simply having an enormous amount of Qi didn’t mean that someone would be able to use a skill like that over and over again. Stamina played a crucial role as well.
Even if someone possessed limitless Qi, repeatedly unleashing an attack of such terrifying power would still put a tremendous strain on their body. But looking at that damn Haoran... it seemed the bastard had infinite stamina as well.
Liyu shook his head as he felt a headache approaching. This was getting ridiculous. He slowly rose to his feet before asking the System another question.
"Hey, Sys."
[Yes, Host?]
"What is my percentage chance of winning this battle?"
The System responded almost immediately. It was as if the damn System didn’t even believe there was any need for further analysis.
[Host, your chance of winning in a battle like this one is exactly zero.]
The System paused.
[No. Negative would be more fitting for this situation.]
Liyu’s eyes twitched.
"Is there really no way I would be able to take the win on this one?"
He asked while grasping for whatever straw of hope was still left. The System remained silent for a while. Then it finally spoke.
[Host, you can try merging with your clones.]
[They should provide you with a tremendous boost that may allow you to breach the gap between yourself and Guan Haoran.]
Liyu remained silent for a while. Then he spoke.
"What is my percentage if I merge with one of my clones?"
The System remained silent again. It was as if it was calculating something. After a while, it finally responded.
[It depends.]
[Since your clones are stronger than one another, even if only slightly, there is still a difference between them.]
[I would estimate your chances of victory to be between 5% and 15%.]
Liyu’s expression didn’t change. Then the System continued.
[That is assuming your opponent isn’t petty like you, of course, and doesn’t resort to endlessly spamming Behemoth Punches against you.]
[But if your opponent decides to go down that path, then your situation changes entirely.]
There was a brief pause.
[Your chances of winning would drop to between 0.1% and 1%.]
Liyu’s eyes twitched.
"Really?"
He couldn’t help but feel somewhat speechless.
"That bad?"
But he could relate to the numbers. After all... the Behemoth Punch really was something else. He had fortified his hands to the absolute best of his capability, yet they had still been mangled beyond belief.
If not for Liyu’s insanely overpowered physique and the high tolerance for pain he had developed during his earliest days of cultivation, he might have already passed out from that very first attack.
So, yeah. If Guan Haoran was anything like Liyu... then the System was right. Why would he bother engaging in a complicated battle if he could simply spam Behemoth Punches and crush his opponent over and over again until they were completely broken?
After all... why should he bother fighting if he could just swing his hand around and destroy his opponent?
Liyu shook his head. He was indeed having fun. But at the same time... he was also developing a deep, intense headache. Because come on. Someone should tell him how the hell he was supposed to win this battle as it was now. Because simply put... things really looked bad. Very bad. Not good at all.
Liyu looked at his hand. It was still shaking. Even now, his entire body seemed to be trembling slightly, as if he were afraid. No. He was afraid. There was no point denying that. But fear wasn’t the only thing responsible for the trembling. There was something else mixed into it. Excitement. Thrill.
His body was shaking because he was genuinely thrilled. It had been quite a while since a battle had pumped him with such an intense and exhilarating feeling.
One could say that Liyu was a battle maniac. He loved fighting simply for the thrill of it. And, sincerely, that was partially why he had entered this tournament to begin with. He wanted to find an opponent capable of pushing him to his absolute limit. At first, he had been disappointed.
That was how he had felt while fighting Shi Lan, Guan Jian, and Guan Feng. They were strong, yes. But they weren’t enough. Then he had faced Shi Mo. That battle had given him a little thrill. Yeah. Shi Mo had made him feel somewhat pressured. He had pushed Liyu slightly.
But at the end of the day, it still wasn’t enough. It hadn’t given him the thrill he had been looking for.
But now... he was feeling it. He had finally found it. He had been pushed to his limit. No. Wait. Who was he kidding? He was far past his limit already.
He wasn’t simply standing at the edge anymore. He had gone beyond it and was now hanging on by whatever remained. At this juncture, the reasonable thing to do would be to simply give up.
From the few exchanges he had with Guan Haoran, it was more than clear that the power gap between the two of them was far beyond anything normal. There was simply no obvious way for him to win this. But... who said he had to win this the normal way?
[Host, there is another solution.]
The System’s voice suddenly rang inside his mind.
[You can try merging with two of your clones instead of one.]
[The advantage... the boost you would receive... would be far greater.]
There was a brief pause before the System continued.
[The disadvantage is that it would place additional strain on your body, although it wouldn’t be anything too drastic.]
[I believe that is the best option available to you at this moment.]
Liyu paused. He thought about it for a moment. Then he asked another question.
"Let’s say I merge with two of my reflections instead of one."
His gaze remained fixed on Haoran.
"Tell me, what are my chances of defeating him?"
The System went silent. Then it spoke.
[If he doesn’t spam Behemoth Punches against you, then I would say your chances would increase to between 20% and 50%, depending on the duo you merge with.]
Liyu remained silent. Then he shook his head.
"Not good enough," he said simply.
The System went silent again. After a while, it spoke once more.
[Host, I believe we already discussed this.]
[You can’t merge with more than two clones based on your current level.]
[If you try to merge with all three of your clones at the same time, you risk subjecting your body to unbearable pain and potentially causing a mental collapse.]
A brief pause followed.
[Host, don’t try that.]
Liyu didn’t say anything. He slowly straightened his head.
Crack.
A small cracking sound came from his neck. Then he chuckled.
"Calm down, Sys. I am not planning on doing that."
He rolled his shoulders slightly.
"Even if I do, it still wouldn’t be a hundred percent guarantee of winning."
His gaze sharpened.
"And it’s either that or nothing else."
Liyu stretched his claws. His fingers flexed slowly as his gaze locked onto Haoran.
The latter’s blinding white eyes were already casually fixed on him. It was almost as if the guy was simply waiting for Liyu to finish recuperating so that he could beat him down with another single attack. Liyu’s gaze twitched. Then he grinned.
"You know what, Sys... No matter whether the guy has infinite Qi, infinite strength, infinite speed, or infinite stamina..."
His lunatic grin stretched wider.
"I don’t give a fuck."
His eyes gleamed with madness.
"At the end of the day, I would win."
[Host, let’s be realistic here. There is no way you can win. And even if you try out your last card, nothing will give you a hundred percent guarantee of winning this battle.]
Liyu remained silent for a while. Then he shook his head.
"You might not have a sure-win plan, Sys."
His expression slowly changed.
"But that doesn’t mean I don’t have one."
Liyu’s face gleamed with madness. In fact... a small, confident smile appeared on his face.
"I have a plan. One that would give me a hundred percent chance of taking this crazy guy down," Liyu said with a small, confident smile.
