Chapter 192
The four-spiked gorilla looked at the young human before it with barely concealed rage and hatred, though beneath those emotions, there was something else it was feeling right now... weariness.
This young human was a freak, and the beast was slightly spooked by Lazy Rayden’s performance because, without a doubt, its previous analysis about the green-haired human being the strongest was totally wrong.
This guy... this human who looked as if he could fall asleep at any moment was the main freak here, and the beast realized that much at that moment.
Lazy Rayden’s way of battling was strange and almost sloppy; at first glance, his movements looked loose, lazy, and completely lacking in seriousness, showing no explosive posture, no grand display of strength, and no intimidating battle aura.
Yet every single movement was conducted with such terrifying efficiency that it almost seemed as if he already knew how everything would happen before it did, as though he wasn’t fighting his opponent at all, but rather simply following the natural flow of time itself.
The few techniques he had forced himself to use were enough to block the beast’s attacks without much effort whatsoever, and that wasn’t all, because every attack he threw landed precisely at a vital point, carrying enough power to make the beast feel something it hadn’t felt in a very long while: pain and dread.
The beast’s crimson eyes narrowed, fearing that if this battle dragged on for much longer, it might actually lose to this lazy human who was simply too freakish.
After all, how was the beast supposed to accept the fact that this human had been able to fight it for several minutes... almost an hour... and all it had managed to accomplish was leaving a few scratches here and there?
That was completely ridiculous. The beast was infuriated and filled with hatred, yet beneath all of that hatred... it was scared of this human.
So it tried another method: if it couldn’t defeat Lazy Rayden immediately, then it would try to lower his confidence and shake his mentality. The four-spiked gorilla’s muscles tensed as it let out a deep growl, its voice low and filled with unbridled fury. "You damn humans..."
The beast glared at Lazy Rayden. "Why resist?" Its crimson eyes flashed viciously. "You shall die anyway." It took a heavy step forward. "You have lost." The beast’s voice became even more threatening.
"Resisting is meaningless. When your friends die, it will be over for you as well." The beast deliberately emphasized those words, wanting Lazy Rayden to think about his companions, to become afraid, and to lose his composure.
Unfortunately for the four-spiked gorilla, it had chosen the wrong target. Lazy Rayden merely yawned slightly, his sleepy gaze moving toward the beast as a small trace of amusement flashed across his half-lidded eyes. "Well..." He paused. "I can say the same for you."
Lazy Rayden looked at the beast that was trying to intimidate him with an amused expression, completely unaware that the four-spiked gorilla had absolutely no idea it was the one in danger now... not them, but it.
After all, Lazy Rayden had already felt the change; although his own qi reserves were far from being totally depleted due to his Heavenly Efficiency Physique, the medium amount of qi he had managed to use during the battle had been replenished... every bit of it... returning his reserves to their peak once more.
And if Lazy Rayden wanted to bet, he would bet that the other two reflections had also had their qi reserves filled to the brim, which meant things were about to change completely, and the change would be good for them.
As for the beasts that had come for them... well, it would be the exact opposite. So yes, the one in danger right now wasn’t him; it was the four-spiked gorilla, which had surely lost.
"You arrogant human!" The four-spiked gorilla growled, its rage surging even further. "You shall pay for this insult with your life!" The beast suddenly opened its mouth and let out a thunderous roar.
"Come!" It called for the beasts surrounding the battlefield to move forward and surround this lazy human so that if they distracted him, the gorilla would be able to end him quickly. That was the plan, and the gorilla’s eyes flashed viciously as it waited for the surrounding horde to respond.
But... nothing happened. The four-spiked gorilla frowned in silence as not even the faintest sound of a beast answering its command could be heard, causing its brow to furrow. Then it growled again, this time louder. "Come!"
Once again... nothing. No response, not a single roar, not a single footstep, not even the faintest rustling of movement from the surrounding forest. The four-spiked gorilla’s frown slowly turned into a scowl as it realized something was wrong... very wrong.
It looked around, its massive head turning from one direction to another as it desperately searched for the beasts that should have been surrounding them. Where had they gone? The gorilla’s gaze swept across the battlefield.
Nothing. Its expression changed, the fury on its face slowly disappearing and being replaced by confusion, then disbelief, and finally... a deep, ugly scowl covering its features as its crimson eyes widened slightly.
"What the hell...?" No matter where the beast looked, only the corpses of beasts and the destroyed, damaged forest met its gaze, with not a single living beast anywhere. They had all been killed... totally, completely.
The four-spiked gorilla’s pupils trembled violently as it desperately tried to deny what it was seeing, not wanting to believe its own eyes, and growled once more to force the sound out from deep within its throat as it tried to call for its minions. "Come!"
Nothing.
"Where are you?!" Silence.
"Anyone...?" Anyone at all. But what answered it was nothing but silence... a silence so complete that it was almost deafening.
The four-spiked gorilla stood there frozen, its massive body rigid as its gaze swept across the ruined forest once more. Nothing. Not one beast, not one response, not one ally.
They were all gone, every single beast that had invaded this place with it having been slaughtered, and the beast finally understood the horrifying reality: it was the only one left.
"Don’t bother calling them." A calm voice suddenly reached its ears. "Out of all the beasts that invaded this place..." The voice paused briefly. "...you are the only one left."
The beast’s body froze, its gaze becoming blank for several seconds before it slowly turned around to face the person who had spoken.
The moment it saw him, it recognized him immediately: those green eyes, that calm expression, that composed posture, and the green lightning violently crackling around his figure. It was none other than King Rayden, the very same human it had been fighting before, yet something about him was different now... far different.
Around King Rayden’s figure, multiple lightning swords flashed into existence, suspended in midair as countless strands of green lightning connected them directly to his body, floating silently around him while each one carried a frightening destructive aura.
And in his hands were two more swords formed entirely from green lightning. Zzzzzzt! The blades crackled violently, King Rayden’s emerald gaze remaining calm and sharp as he stared directly at the four-spiked gorilla with no arrogance or unnecessary excitement, only a quiet certainty.
"Give up." King Rayden’s lips curved into a small, calm smile. "You have lost."
The beast’s body trembled slightly, its mouth opening as it tried to speak, wanting to say something... anything... but before it could force out a single word, another voice suddenly cut through the silence.
This voice was sharp, precise, cold, and unlike King Rayden, there was absolutely no patience within it.
"Let’s just end this guy quickly and continue with the task that the boss has given us."
Dead Eye Rayden’s tone was sharp and precise; he didn’t mince his words, nor did he bother wasting time, because to him there was only the task: complete it, then move on to the next one.
The other two nodded, King Rayden gave a calm nod of his own, and Lazy Rayden merely shrugged as he looked back toward the beast.
The four-spiked gorilla stared at the three humans, disbelief written across every inch of its face.
No, this couldn’t be happening... its mind screamed in denial, knowing its entire army had been wiped out, every single one of them, and yet none of the three humans was dead. Not one.
How? How was this possible?! The beast’s crimson eyes trembled violently. It had entered this place with thousands of beasts... thousands! They had surrounded these humans, fought them for so long, exhausted their qi, and pushed them to their limits, and yet, somehow... the situation had completely reversed.
The humans were standing, its army was dead, and it was alone.
The beast didn’t get to remain in despair for long, however, because Dead Eye Rayden hated wasting time.
His eyes narrowed, his body moved, and the instant he launched forward, the other two reflections moved as well: King Rayden vanished in a burst of green lightning, Lazy Rayden stepped forward with his usual sleepy expression, and Dead Eye Rayden’s figure shot across the battlefield like a bullet.
The three reflections launched forward together, making the four-spiked gorilla’s expression finally change completely as it desperately tried to fight back against all three reflections.
But very quickly, it realized that it was completely impossible. If it had already been struggling and having a tough fight against only one of the clones, then facing all three at once... each possessing their own specialty and covering for one another with almost perfect coordination... made it hardly surprising that it was totally unable to do a damn thing against them.
One was overwhelming it with precise attacks, another was controlling the battlefield with terrifying efficiency, and the last moved with that lazy, almost effortless style that made every attempt to predict him feel completely pointless.
The three reflections worked together perfectly, leaving no opening, no weakness, no chance, and the beast soon began approaching its end under the combined assault of all three clones.
Every second brought it closer to death, every attack chipped away at what little strength it had left, and soon it felt death rapidly approaching.
As it stood at the very edge of its life, the four-spiked gorilla suddenly came to a shocking realization... or rather, it realized something that would surely have shocked the rest of the beasts hidden within the deeper parts of the Beast Forest: the Primal Tyrant was not the only anomaly among the humans.
There were others. There were other freaks like him. If it had a way to pass one final piece of advice to the beasts deeper within the forest, it would tell them one important thing: don’t try to charge against the humans, and don’t hunt them down anymore, because the moment they ran into these freaks... it would be game over, or rather, the hunt would be over.
The beast breathed its last, its enormous body finally crumpled to the ground, completely and utterly lifeless. The three clones remained standing for a brief moment, confirming that the beast had truly breathed its last before finally relaxing, and then all three collapsed to the ground as well, breathing in deep, heavy breaths.
Who could blame them, after all, when they had been fighting at their absolute best for quite some time? Well... all except Lazy Rayden, since that guy was still yet to get genuinely serious.
Even so, the battle had been exhausting, and the three reflections took deep, steady breaths as they tried to relax and recover from the battle. Several minutes passed, and eventually King Rayden slowly pushed himself up.
His body had suffered some damage during the battle, but it had already healed considerably, bringing him back to decent condition, although he was still nowhere near his peak; if he cultivated for a few hours, he should be able to return to his peak, and if he focused on cultivation properly, that recovery time could be shortened even further.
Before he resumed cultivating, however, he had something else to do. King Rayden looked around: thousands of beast cores surrounded them from all sides, making his eyes immediately light up as he couldn’t help but whistle softly.
"This would surely make the original happy. More than happy, even." King Rayden rubbed his chin thoughtfully as he looked at the massive number of beast cores scattered across the battlefield, and after thinking for a moment, an idea came to him. "Let’s carve out all these beast cores and give them to the original when he comes back."
King Rayden turned toward the other two reflections. "Dead Eye, give me a hand."
Dead Eye Rayden gave him a blank stare, then shook his head. "I have a mission that I haven’t finished yet," his expression remaining completely serious, "so I’ll get back to that task right now."
With that, Dead Eye Rayden turned around and returned to cultivating once more.
King Rayden’s mouth twitched as he turned toward the other clone, intending to ask him for assistance instead, but the moment his eyes landed on him... his eyes twitched again. The second reflection was already fast asleep, completely asleep, with the sound of loud snoring escaping the guy’s lips every few seconds.
"Hrrrrr..." King Rayden’s eye twitched yet again, and he slowly shook his head. "These two are something else... but at least they tried. More than tried, even." Another shake of his head followed.
In the end, King Rayden decided to carve out all the beast cores by himself, gathering every single one of them to give to the original as a reward. After all, considering what the original had just done for them, this was the least he could do.
Meanwhile... back at the Ray Arena, Liyu collapsed onto his butt on the stage, his body finally allowed to relax after everything that had happened.
He slowly decided to open his system and check it, wondering if perhaps there was some lingering effect from triggering Berserker earlier, since the skill had never activated before and there was no telling whether using it would leave behind some kind of consequence... or perhaps, there might be some unexpected benefit.
Liyu opened his system tabs, yet the moment he did... his eyes widened. He was welcomed with more than one surprise.
