My Cuckhold System

Chapter 335: Something Is Very Wrong

The guilt steadily ate away at Liz until eventually... friday arrived.

After one last sleepless night... Liz finally made her decision that she would meet West.

(( Shadow Reapers Headquarters ))

The atmosphere outside the main building was unusually lively.

Large production trucks occupied much of the space with lighting rigs, camera cranes and sound equipment set up.

Assistants rushed from place to place carrying props.

Upon arrival, Liz was dumbfounded. "...What’s going on?"

One of the staff members smiled. "They’re filming Mr. Einstein’s commercial."

She quietly followed the activity toward the main filming area.

Several large cameras pointed toward a specially constructed set while bright studio lights illuminated everything.

West stood near the center clad in a fitted black tank top that accentuated his athletic build, paired with dark cargo pants and combat boots.

A carton of Silver Crest milk rested casually in one hand.

His hair had been styled slightly differently for the commercial, giving him an even sharper appearance.

Even Liz found herself staring for a moment. "...He cleans up ridiculously well."

The director raised his hand. "Ready!"

"Cameras!"

"Rolling!"

"Action!"

A massive hydraulic crane positioned just outside the camera frame suddenly released its load.

A full-sized car dropped dramatically toward the ground and an actress stood directly beneath its path.

She looked upward in horror. "Help!"

Before the vehicle could crash, West shot forward into frame.

He planted one foot firmly against the pavement and caught the descending car... with astonishing ease using only one hand.

The actress looked up at him in amazement.

"Are you okay, miss?"

She nodded enthusiastically. "You..."

"...you’re my hero."

She leaned forward and kissed his cheek.

West smiled modestly before carefully lowering the vehicle back onto the ground.

He then turned directly toward the nearest camera with a confident grin on his face. "Wanna be as strong as me, kids?"

He lifted the milk carton. "Then make sure you drink..."

He took a dramatic sip. "...Silver Crest Milk."

The director immediately shouted, "Cut!"

Everyone applauded while the crew quickly gathered around reviewing the footage.

One cameraman laughed. "That looked fantastic."

Another nodded. "We’ll still need another angle."

The director pointed. "Reset everything!"

"We’re doing another take!"

West simply laughed. "No problem."

Liz watched quietly from a distance with a strangely fascinated gaze.

Seeing West joke effortlessly with the crew, listening patiently to every instruction and repeating scenes without complaint, made her even more drawn to him.

Even when one take failed because an extra accidentally looked at the camera...

He simply smiled. "No worries."

"Let’s do it again."

Takes were repeated with different camera angles, different dialogue delivery and different lighting adjustments, over and over again.

The process continued for nearly two hours.

Liz remained seated nearby the entire time watching and waiting.

Eventually... the director clapped loudly. "That’s it!"

"We’ve got everything!"

A small round of applause erupted from the crew.

West accepted a towel from one of the assistants before finally noticing Liz still waiting nearby.

His eyes widened slightly. "You’ve been here this whole time?"

She smiled faintly. "I didn’t want to interrupt."

West rubbed the back of his neck. "Sorry."

"I thought this would only take thirty minutes."

She shook her head. "It’s alright."

"I actually found it interesting."

He laughed. "Interesting?"

"I’ve never watched a commercial being filmed before."

"So..."

She smiled. "It was worth waiting."

West looked genuinely apologetic. "Still."

"Sorry for keeping you."

She held up the document folder. "I came because..."

"I have a business proposal I’d like to discuss."

West nodded. "Of course."

He handed the milk carton to one of the production assistants.

"Give me five minutes to change."

"I’ll meet you upstairs."

"Sounds good."

A few minutes later... West returned wearing a casual black shirt over his tank top.

He smiled. "Come on."

"My office’s a little quieter."

Liz quietly followed behind him.

The folder in her hands suddenly felt much heavier than it had when she’d arrived.

Every step toward his office made her feel even more conflicted about what she had come to do.

...

Few minutes later, the door to West’s office closed softly behind them.

Compared to the lively atmosphere outside where the commercial crew was still packing away equipment, the office was comfortably quiet.

West walked over to the minibar tucked into one corner and poured two glasses of cold water.

He slid one across the desk.

"You’ve been coming here so often lately..." he joked as he settled into his chair. "At this point I think I see you more than I see my own mother."

Usually, that would have earned him one of Liz’s bright laughs.

Instead... she smiled... but the smile wasn’t quite there. It didn’t reach her eyes.

West immediately noticed and leaned back in his chair, studying her for a moment. "...You okay?"

Liz looked up quickly. "Hm?"

"You don’t seem a little heavy."

"I’m fine."

West wasn’t convinced. "You’ve got that look."

"What look?"

"The one that says your brain is carrying around something heavy."

She tried to laugh again. "It must be the workload."

West folded his arms. "Or..."

"The stress from work."

"...and taking care of your fiancé every day."

Her fingers tightened around the folder resting in her lap. "It’s... been busy."

"I can imagine," West nodded sympathetically. "I honestly don’t know how you’ve managed it."

"Working."

"Looking after him."

"Still finding time to help me."

"I’d probably collapse after two weeks."

That almost made her genuinely laugh. "You’re exaggerating."

"No."

"I’m serious."

He smiled warmly. "I admire people who keep going when life keeps punching them."

Those words struck her harder than he realized causing her to look away. "...Thank you."

West noticed she still wasn’t relaxing which meant that whatever was bothering her... was bigger than simple exhaustion so he decided not to push.

Instead he smiled. "So..."

"What brings the city’s best realtor to my humble office today?"

Liz immediately reached for the folder and carefully placed the proposal on the desk.

She wanted to get this over with as quick as possible because the longer she stayed, the harder it became.

"I wanted to show you an investment opportunity."

West opened the file and she began explaining the project, the location, size of the land, its potential uses and possible long-term development.

She spoke professionally, listing points after points while West quietly turned page after page.

Eventually... he reached the purchase price. "...Twenty million?"

Liz swallowed. "...Yes."

West looked back at the documents. "...That’s a little pricey."

"It..." she hesitated. "...will still become valuable."

West continued reading. It was obvious he trusted her since he didn’t question anything else or check for hidden details.

That trust... made every word leaving her mouth feel heavier.

When she finally finished, West closed the folder.

"If you think it’s a worthwhile investment..." he smiled. "...then I trust your judgment."

Liz felt her heart drop as West picked up his pen. "Let’s get the paperwork signed."

He placed his signature on one page and then moved onto the next and did the same thing, over and over.

Each completed page felt like another pressure settling onto her chest.

The air conditioner continued filling the space with cool air, yet sweat gathered along her temples.

As she watched West sign, her breathing became shallow.

Not only had West saved her fiancée, had treated her better than any client she’d ever had.

He listened, respected her advice and never once tried to take advantage of her.

’And this... this was how I’m going to repay him?’ her vision blurred in guilt.

West reached the final signature page. "Just one more."

His pen hovered above the paper and just as he was about to sign, something inside her snapped.

Her hand shot forward and slapped the cup resting near West’s elbow.

It tipped over and water splashed across the desk, instantly soaking the documents.

West jumped back. "Whoa!"

"Liz—"

"I’m sorry!" her voice broke as she grabbed the dripping paperwork before West could react.

"No..."

"No..."

"I can’t..."

With trembling hands, she tore the soaked pages apart causing paper to scatter across the floor.

West stood there completely stunned. "Liz..."

Tears dribbled down her cheeks as she apologized constantly. "I’m sorry..."

"I’m so sorry..."

"Don’t sign it."

West stared at her. "What happened?"

"I..."

"I can’t tell you..."

"I’m sorry..."

Before he could reach her... she turned and ran, shutting the door behind her with a bang.

"Liz!" West stood in place utterly confused for some time.

After a couple of seconds, he hurried after her but by the time he reached the entrance of the base, she was already climbing into a cab.

"Liz!"

West watched the vehicle pull away and disappear into traffic in a short time.

His expression slowly hardened. "...Something’s very wrong."

...

...

Liz returned home in tears.

The moment she entered the apartment... her phone began vibrating.

She rejected the call but it rang again.

She rejected it once more and seconds later... it rang a third time.
