My Cultivation Has a Progress Bar
Chapter 414 - 49: The Fall of Chang Jing"It’s the Three Yang True Flame!"
Zhi Gong Daoist muttered to himself, "And it’s the aura of two Three Yang True Flames... No, three. That’s not right either—it’s four!"
"Has the First Sect made its move?"
Ganxing chimed in.
Wang Ping snapped to his senses. He tossed aside the game piece in his hand and, with Yu Lian, transformed into a streak of light. He intercepted a flame falling from the sky, but before it could even get close, Yu Lian extinguished it with a single breath.
"You’re the commander! Don’t you go pulling stunts like showing up on the front lines!"
The first to reach Wang Ping’s side was none other than Liu Huai’en. He scanned the surrounding sky warily, clearly positioning himself to protect Wang Ping.
Zhi Gong and Hu Yin arrived next, appearing at Wang Ping’s side. They cast Magic to block the flames falling from the sky while also scanning their surroundings with the same wariness.
"Hold your positions!"
Wang Ping’s shout echoed from the sky, reaching far and wide. The command was directed at the other Third Realm Cultivators on his side.
Ganxing and Wu Quan exchanged a glance before transforming into streaks of light and appearing at Wang Ping’s side. They were followed by Tongming, Huaimo, and Shan Wei. Shan Wei tailed Tongming closely, apparently assigned to watch him.
’There’s Wen Yang’s aura in the flames,’
Yu Lian told Wang Ping through his Spirit Sea.
Wang Ping took a deep breath. He knew this meant Wen Yang was attacking Chang Jing. Then, he heard Yu Lian add, ’And the aura of that Fire Salamander is here too. It’s very faint, but I’m sure it’s him!’
The Fire Salamander she spoke of was Ruan Chunzi’s Spirit Pet, Fire Swift.
Just then, the Military Array below raised a Protective Barrier. Wang Ping pulled a handful of gray seeds from his storage bag and scattered them. Carried by the flowing Wood Spirit Qi, the seeds quickly descended upon the ruins of the Fire Candle Forest. As Wang Ping completed a hand seal for a Spell, a dense forest erupted from the blackened ruins, spreading visibly along the river to the east and west.
Cheers erupted from the Military Array below. Amidst the celebration, the Wood Spirit Qi stirred up by the dense new vegetation began to devour and neutralize the rampant Fire Spirit Qi. The great fires falling from the sky were snuffed out by the Wood Spirit Qi emanating from the forest before they could even reach the ground.
"Fellow Daoist Zhi Gong and Fellow Daoist Wu, guard the left and right flanks. Fellow Daoist Gan, you assist Fellow Daoist Wu. Hu Yin, you assist Fellow Daoist Zhi Gong."
Wang Ping ordered quickly.
The four who were named immediately acknowledged the order and took up positions to the left and right.
"Fellow Daoist Tongming and Fellow Daoist Shan Wei, take the forward watch. Fellow Daoist Huaimo, Fellow Daoist Liu, you will anchor the formation with me. And one more thing... I’d like the sky to be a little brighter!"
"Yes!"
Tongming and Shan Wei immediately advanced several hundred yards. Huaimo Taoist, meanwhile, formed a hand seal. The Spiritual Qi of the heavens and earth began to resonate with the Golden Core inside him. In that instant, it seemed as if the world itself was connected to him; the clouds rapidly scattered, and sunlight once again poured down upon the land.
In fact, the sunlight was now brighter than a summer’s day, brilliantly illuminating the entire area!
"How incredible!"
Yu Lian spoke aloud.
Huaimo Taoist smiled at Yu Lian. "Our cultivation is that of the cosmos, of heaven and earth itself," he explained.
Wang Ping was amazed as well, but he had more important matters to attend to. He tore his gaze from the suddenly brilliant sun and looked toward the fiery red sky in the distance. He then summoned a Golden Armor Soldier and attached a small portion of his consciousness to it.
"All of you, maintain your guard. I’m going to take a look up ahead!"
With that, he summoned three Talismans from his Primordial Spirit and had the Golden Armor Soldier transform into a streak of light. It plunged into the Wood Spirit Qi and flew northeast, toward the main range of True Yang Mountain.
A dozen or so breaths later, the puppet carrying a sliver of Wang Ping’s consciousness arrived above the main True Yang Mountain range. Through the puppet’s eyes, he subconsciously scanned the ground below. Sanshui City had already activated its existing Barrier Formation. He could also sense the auras of many other instances of Barrier Magical Power on the mountain, likely from various sects and cities. However, the mountain was blanketed in such a thick Fire Spirit Aura that his sliver of consciousness couldn’t penetrate it.
After a brief pause, the puppet flew toward the scorching light, passing directly over the main peak of True Yang Mountain. Dozens of spiritual senses immediately fell upon the puppet, but no one made a move to stop it.
As the puppet flew over True Yang Mountain, the intense heat in the air instantly burned away most of the decorative paint on its exterior, revealing the bare Spirit Wood skeleton beneath. This skeleton, inscribed with a precise Wood Spirit Array and made of refined Spirit Wood, was far tougher; the heat ahead couldn’t harm it in the slightest.
The far side of the majestic True Yang Mountain was now completely engulfed in fire. The sky was burning, the earth was burning, and searing flames consumed everything. The very air seemed to twist and distort from the heat.
North of a riverbed, churning water met flowing magma, creating a thick, steamy fog. Within the fog loomed a monstrous crater, from which the roars of some beast-like creature echoed. Each roar unleashed a blast of searing heat, and combined with the billowing smoke, the scene resembled the apocalyptic prophecies of some Evil Cult.
And yet, aside from the roiling fog and the furious roars, the rest of the landscape was eerily silent. In other words, the battle was over. A victor had been decided.
To the puppet’s left stood three Cultivators from True Yang Mountain, led by a female Kun Cultivator in a True Yang Sect Daoist Robe. They all stared at the deep crater in disbelief. To the puppet’s right were two Cultivators in the Daoist Robes of Lishui Prefecture and two men in ornate clothing, all gaping at the crater with equal shock.
Opposite the puppet, at least ten scorching auras were present. They seemed hostile to one another, their positioning very deliberate. As the puppet’s gaze swept over them, several more auras appeared, but the raging Fire Spirit Qi, thick smoke, and heavy steam prevented the puppet from getting a clear look.
Suddenly, four figures on opposite sides of the crater moved. The sound of violent impacts rang out repeatedly as they fought. Each clash stirred up a storm of Fire Spirit Qi, and the beast-like roars from the pit grew shrill amidst their battle!
’The battle isn’t over?’
The question arose in Wang Ping’s mind, but it was quickly followed by more. He was certain that someone had already fallen in the crater below.
’Who fell?’
A sliver of worry arose within him.
There were so many people around, yet no one seemed to have any intention of joining the fray. The others were content to watch from the sidelines; only the group from True Yang Mountain appeared anxious.
BOOM!
It was the sound of a massive explosion. The resulting shockwave sent ripples through the thick smoke and steam, and the beast-like roars stopped abruptly.
After that, the four figures clashed several more times. During the exchange, the Kun Cultivator at the forefront of the True Yang Mountain group tried to intervene multiple times, but was always held back by Daoist Wen Yuan.
Dozens of breaths later, the four figures broke apart. The next moment, two of them landed before the three Cultivators from True Yang Mountain, while the other two let out a burst of laughter and flew off to join the group opposite the puppet.
"Wen Yang, how did it come to this?"
The Kun Cultivator from True Yang Mountain demanded, her face an icy mask. The two who had landed before them were none other than Wen Yang and Ruan Chunzi.
Wen Yang seemed to have over-exerted his fire abilities. Spiritual energy, laced with searing flames, was leaking uncontrollably from his eyes. Fire Spirit Rune Lines covered the surface of his skin, with tongues of flame dancing between them.
"It was the First Sect! They ambushed the Sect Leader!"
"How is the Sect Leader?" Daoist Wen Yuan and the leading Kun Cultivator asked in unison.
"He has fallen. Even the Fire Spirit he summoned has been extinguished!"
