"Why... is it like this?"
The leading Kun Cultivator muttered to herself after hearing Wen Yang’s explanation. Then, her expression turned fierce, the Fire Spirit Qi around her surged, and she pointed at Wen Yang, snapping, "Why is it like this? And why are you here?"
Wen Yang’s expression turned cold. "Are you sure you want to talk about this here?" he asked indifferently.
Just then, the soft sun in the sky suddenly turned scorching. The roiling dust and water vapor near True Yang Mountain began to recede at a visible rate under the sudden rays of sunlight.
"It’s a technique of the Yuqing Sect. Fellow Daoist Xin Shi, we shouldn’t linger here..."
Wen Yuan looked at Xin Shi, her expression grave. She only spoke the first half of her sentence aloud; the second half was presumably communicated to Xin Shi via voice transmission.
As the two of them communicated, the dust and mist in the surrounding area were completely cleared away by the Yuqing Sect’s Magic carried on the sun’s rays.
It was as if the filth between heaven and earth had been cleansed, revealing its true face.
The deep crater on the ground was even more glaring. Most of it was covered in roiling magma that seemed to be erupting from deep underground. Driving this flow of magma was a strange beast, resembling both a tiger and an ox, coiled in the crater’s depths. Miraculously, its body had not melted in the thousands-of-degrees-hot magma.
The figures opposite the puppet also emerged from the dust. There were indeed people from three factions. Those dressed in loose, black, common cultivator robes were likely from the Sun Sect. There were six of them, with no hair on their faces or heads—even cleaner than a Monk’s scalp. Each one could be described with a single word: meticulous.
Those dressed casually and unconventionally were the madmen of ’First Day’. Their leader was a young-looking man in purple brocade, wielding a Scholar’s Sword. His aura was like a drawn blade—or rather, he himself was a blade. It was more accurate to say he had fused with a sword-type Demon Soldier and had already evolved to the Third Realm.
Ke Yue stood at his left. Behind him, a male and a female Fire Cultivator stood close together. The Fire Spirit Qi they cultivated was intertwined. They possessed two distinct Primordial Spirit Consciousnesses, but those consciousnesses were fused into one.
Finally, there was the ’First Sect’. They appeared much more normal, all of them dressed in simple, blue, Narrow-sleeved Daoist Robes. The only variations were that some wore jade crowns while others wore Daoist Hats that had been popular hundreds of years ago. They were clearly adept at blending in—especially their leader, who even cradled a Duster.
"Junior Sister Xin Shi, are you trying to leave without even greeting your senior sister?"
Ke Yue took a step through the void, glanced up at the glaring sun, and chuckled as she ’persuaded’ Xin Shi to stay.
Xin Shi’s gaze hardened, and faint Fire Spirit Rune Lines appeared on her cheeks. She stared at Ke Yue and said, "Don’t call me Junior Sister. Your twisted Primordial Spirit proves you no longer belong to the True Yang Sect."
Ke Yue took two more steps, swaying her graceful figure. She covered her mouth and giggled. "This is the true state of the fire spirit. You all are nothing but frogs in a well, grasping power without fulfilling its responsibilities."
"Is fulfilling your responsibility burning the entire world to ashes?"
"Look at everything you’ve done! Aren’t you the ones burning the world to ashes?"
"Your madness is known to the whole world!"
Ke Yue was about to retort, but the man behind her with the Scholar’s Sword blocked her with the flat of his blade. He then took several steps through the void to position himself in front of her. With his sword in hand, he offered a salute. "Fellow Daoist Xin Shi, you must know why we’re here. I hope you’ll be accommodating and save us from having to resort to violence."
"In your dreams!"
"Then you leave us no choice."
The two were about to clash, but it was Wang Ping’s puppet that suffered the first blow. The attacker was Daoist Wen Yuan. She spat out a sharp flying sword that struck the puppet in the chest, causing the Spiritual Qi from its internal Array to resonate violently with the surrounding Spiritual Qi, shattering the puppet to dust.
However, the trace of consciousness Wang Ping had left behind was connected to the most profound of items, the Heaven-Reaching Talisman. Wen Yuan formed a spell and released a huge Spatial Bag, but she failed to capture that wisp of consciousness.
"That’s a Heaven-Reaching Talisman. Your petty tricks from the Emotionless Dao you learned in the Yuqing Sect are like the light of a firefly. And you want to clash with the Mystic Gate Righteous Dao?" The mocking voice came from the First Sect’s group.
Wen Yuan’s murderous gaze swept over the First Sect, but she didn’t waste her breath on a verbal spat. Instead, she and Xin Shi remained on guard against the ’First Day’ cultivators, while Wen Yang and Ruan Chunzi quietly fell back.
The scene remained a tense standoff. No one made a move, and no one spoke. They all remained wary of one another. After more than ten breaths, an arrogant voice boomed from the east: "You pack of rats, watch me!"
As the voice spread, the eastern sky was dyed fiery red. It was the Three Yang True Flame, heralding the arrival of another Fire Cultivator from the True Yang Sect. Though his words were arrogant, the flames he carried felt gentle and comfortable, not possessing the usual violent and aggressive nature of the True Yang Sect.
CLANG!
Another cultivator beside Xin Shi summoned a longspear wreathed in flames and blocked the incoming Three Yang True Flame. He gazed at the figure barely visible within the True Flame, steadied himself, and said, "Greetings, Elder Feng Dan!"
"Dan Zhi, stand down! Don’t throw your life away for nothing!" the same arrogant voice from before boomed from within the Three Yang True Flame.
"I cannot disobey my master’s orders!" Dan Zhi’s tone was calm, but his attitude was resolute.
WHOOSH!
The aura of the Three Yang True Flame surged as it rushed forward again. Dan Zhi’s Primordial Spirit emerged, part of it coiling around his longspear as he charged head-on into the True Flame.
At the same time, the man from ’First Day’ wielding the Scholar’s Sword transformed into a sharp streak of light. His Scholar’s Sword was already unsheathed, flashing around his body at an incredible speed as if empowered by some law of space.
His target was also Xin Shi!
CLANG!
The sound of metal striking metal was ear-piercing.
This time, a cultivator from Lishui Prefecture had intervened. But the moment he acted, he was sent flying hundreds of feet, crashing somewhere deep within the main peak of True Yang Mountain.
"Get in my way, and you’ll lose your life," the man warned. "You all had better think carefully!"
The man’s advance paused for a moment as he took a single step back, the Scholar’s Sword flickering on either side of his body. As his voice faded, he vanished. When he reappeared, he was already in front of Xin Shi, the sharp edge of his Scholar’s Sword touching her neck.
"Flame Form!"
At the critical moment, Xin Shi transformed into Three Yang True Flame. At her side, Wen Yuan opened her mouth, and a flying sword shot out with a cold glint, stabbing toward the man.
CLANG!
An invisible barrier seemed to manifest before the man, blocking the flying sword Wen Yuan had spat out.
BOOM!
The sound of a fiery explosion rang out. Elsewhere, three Sun Sect cultivators had engaged the other members of ’First Day’. The remaining three Sun Sect members, however, had joined two newly arrived Court Cultivators, all of them looking toward the south side of True Yang Mountain.
"Haha, shall we continue settling our earlier score?"
Two cultivators from the First Sect faced off against Wen Yang and Ruan Chunzi. The four exchanged a look of silent understanding before simultaneously transforming into True Flame and flying off in another direction.
ROAR!
With a dragon’s roar, the Lishui Prefecture cultivator who had been knocked into True Yang Mountain shot back into the sky as a streak of light. He was in human form, but his Primordial Spirit had taken the form of a flood dragon. He and another cultivator from Lishui Prefecture joined Xin Shi and Wen Yuan to surround the man with the Scholar’s Sword.
"I told you," he said, "getting in my way will cost you your lives!"
Facing four Third Realm Cultivators, the man with the Scholar’s Sword remained entirely unfazed.
As his voice rang out, streaks of light sped in from the northern sky. In the blink of an eye, more than ten new Third Realm Cultivators had arrived!
