My DragonicVampiric System

Episode 18 — Crushed by Gravity

The tournament arena was already full when Drako arrived the following morning. Thirty-two matches would determine which competitors advanced into the final thirty-two, and Drako’s opponent had become one of the most discussed fighters remaining. Selene Voss. Rank 41. Level 4. Ability: Gravity Field. Drako stood in the preparation room while Adrian projected recordings of Selene’s previous matches. In every fight, her opponents had been forced to their knees before they could reach her. “Her ability works around an area she controls,” Adrian explained. “The closer you get, the stronger she can make the gravitational pressure.” Drako watched Selene casually stop an opponent in midair and slam him into the ground. “Range?” “About twenty meters based on what I’ve seen.” Teck stood behind Adrian examining his own holographic analysis. “Twenty-three point seven.” Adrian looked at him. “I was close.” “Not really.” Adrian frowned. Draxen laughed. Mira ignored them. “Drako, you can’t fight her the way you fought Sorin. If she catches you in the center of that field, your speed won’t matter.” Raizen nodded. “And don’t assume Dragon Strength can overpower gravity.” Drako smiled. “Then I’ll find another way.” Kaien leaned against the wall. “Try not to get flattened.” Drako looked at him. “Very helpful.” “I’m here for motivation.”

The arena announcement sounded. “Drako and Selene Voss, report to Combat Arena Three.” Drako walked through the gate. Selene was already waiting. She had long black hair tied behind her head and wore no armor. She didn’t need any. A faint distortion surrounded her body. Drako’s Dragon Sense detected energy spreading through the floor around her. Selene smiled. “You’re the dual-energy fighter.” “Apparently that’s what people call me now.” “I’ve watched you.” “Everyone keeps telling me that.” Selene raised one hand. “Blood Step won’t save you if you can’t move.” Drako’s expression changed slightly. She had studied him too. The referee raised his hand. “Begin!” Drako immediately jumped backward instead of attacking. Selene didn’t move. “Smart.” Her fingers lowered. Suddenly, Drako’s entire body became heavier. His knees bent. The stone beneath his feet cracked. “And you’re already inside my range.”

Drako activated Dragon Strength through his legs. His muscles tightened, allowing him to remain standing. The pressure increased. His bones began aching. [Draconic ability unlock condition: 89%.] Drako noticed the number. Physical pressure and combat adaptation. The System wasn’t speaking metaphorically. Selene’s gravity was exactly the type of pressure his Draconic bloodline needed. Selene increased it again. Drako dropped to one knee. The audience erupted. Kaien watched silently from above. Draxen crossed his arms. Teck was recording everything. Selene walked toward Drako. “Your body is strong.” Drako forced himself upright. Golden scales appeared across his legs and shoulders. “Getting stronger.” Selene raised both hands. Gravity doubled. BOOM! Drako was slammed completely into the floor. Pain exploded through his ribs. [Draconic unlock condition: 93%.] Selene stared down at him. “Stay down.” Drako pushed one hand against the stone. His muscles shook violently. “Can’t.” Blood Enhancement activated. Crimson energy traveled through his body, reinforcing his muscles and accelerating circulation. He slowly stood again. Selene’s eyes widened. “You’re insane.” Drako smiled through clenched teeth. “I’ve heard worse.”

He activated Dragon Blood Vision. The world changed. Selene’s gravity wasn’t uniform. Energy flowed outward from her body in invisible waves. The strongest pressure existed directly around her, but the field weakened slightly every time she shifted its direction. Drako waited. Selene pushed downward again. The instant the energy changed, Drako activated Blood Step. Crimson light flashed. He moved three meters before gravity caught him again. Selene turned. Drako used Blood Step a second time during another fluctuation. Five meters. “You’re reading my field.” Selene stopped moving. Gravity stabilized completely. Drako’s body became heavy again. “Then read this.” She clenched her fist. Gravity suddenly changed direction. Instead of being pulled downward, Drako flew sideways. He crashed through a training barrier and hit the arena wall. His defensive shield flickered but remained active. [Draconic unlock condition: 97%.] Drako coughed and stood. His body hurt everywhere. Yet underneath the pain, something inside his Draconic bloodline was changing.

Selene pulled him upward. Drako rose ten feet into the air. Then she released him and increased downward gravity. He fell. BOOM! The arena floor cracked beneath him. Mira stood from her seat. “That’s enough.” Raizen stopped her. “His shield hasn’t activated.” “Look at him.” “Look closer.” Golden scales were spreading across Drako’s back. His transformation was responding automatically, but Drako remained conscious. His eyes opened. One gold. One crimson. [Draconic unlock condition: 100%.] [Draconic ability awakened.] [Dragon Density.] [Ability: Increase the density of selected parts of the Host’s body, greatly increasing weight, stability, defense, and striking force.] Drako smiled from inside the crater. “There you are.” Selene frowned. “What?”

Drako stood. She increased gravity again. This time Drako activated Dragon Density through his legs. His bones and muscles became heavier and denser. His feet cracked the floor, but he didn’t fall. Selene’s eyes widened. “You changed your weight.” “Something like that.” Drako stepped forward. Each step cracked stone beneath him. Selene increased pressure. Dragon Density spread through his torso. His movement became slower, but gravity could no longer throw him around as easily. Drako suddenly deactivated the ability. His body became lighter instantly. Blood Step activated. Crimson flash. He disappeared farther than Selene expected. Before gravity caught him, Drako activated Dragon Density again and anchored himself. Teck’s eyes widened from the observation area. “He’s switching his mass during movement.” Adrian stared. “He just unlocked that.” “Which is why it’s terrifying.”

Selene changed gravity sideways. Drako increased the density of his right leg, anchoring himself while the rest of his body remained lighter. Partial control. Exactly like his transformations. He didn’t need Dragon Density everywhere. He only needed it where necessary. Selene stepped backward. For the first time, she looked worried. Drako’s Vampiric bloodline suddenly reacted. Every rapid change in circulation caused by gravity had pushed his blood energy harder than normal. [Vampiric ability unlock condition: 91%.] Drako noticed but didn’t chase it. He had a fight to finish. Selene raised both hands. The entire arena distorted. “Maximum Field!” Gravity crushed everything within twenty meters. Drako’s knees bent. Blood Step couldn’t function normally. Dragon Density kept him standing, but he couldn’t advance. Dragon Blood Vision showed the enormous amount of energy Selene was spending. “You can’t hold this forever.” Selene smiled. “I don’t need forever.”

She compressed the field around Drako alone. Pressure multiplied. Golden scales cracked across his arms. Drako’s transformation spread farther. Fangs sharpened. Crimson markings appeared across his neck. Pain surged through his body, but he controlled it. [Transformation Control: 68%.] Drako activated Blood Enhancement. His heartbeat accelerated against the gravity. [Vampiric unlock condition: 95%.] Selene compressed harder. [97%.] Drako’s veins glowed crimson. [99%.] He felt his Vampiric energy suddenly change. [100%.] [Vampiric ability awakened.] [Blood Flow Control.] [Ability: Manipulate the circulation and distribution of the Host’s own blood energy, allowing rapid reinforcement of selected body regions and improved resistance against physical disruption.] Drako immediately understood. He directed blood energy into his legs and heart. Crimson lines appeared beneath his golden scales. His body stabilized.

Selene stared. “Another change?” Drako looked up. “Two, actually.” He activated Blood Flow Control through his legs, Dragon Density in his feet, and waited for the smallest fluctuation in Selene’s field. Dragon Blood Vision found it. Blood Step. Drako vanished. Selene reacted instantly, increasing gravity where she expected him to appear. But Drako changed his body’s density midway through the movement, altering his momentum. He appeared somewhere else. Selene turned too late. Drako stood directly in front of her. Golden and crimson energy gathered around his fist. He didn’t use full Dragon Blood Strike. Instead, he tapped her defensive shield with controlled force. BOOM! The shield activated and surrounded her. The referee immediately raised his hand. “Winner: Drako!”

The arena erupted. Drako released his transformation and nearly fell. Selene caught his arm before he hit the ground. “You unlocked abilities while fighting me, didn’t you?” Drako smiled tiredly. “Maybe.” She shook her head. “You’re ridiculous.” “Good fight.” “Next time I’m crushing you harder.” Drako laughed. “I’ll be stronger next time.” Selene smiled. “That’s what worries me.”

Outside the arena, his friends surrounded him. Kaien looked irritated. “Two abilities in one fight?” Draxen smiled. “And I still probably can’t copy either.” Teck was staring at his recordings. “Your growth rate makes no sense.” Drako shrugged. “I’m learning.” The System appeared. [Dragon Density unlocked.] [Blood Flow Control unlocked.] [New combination possibilities detected.] [Hybrid Technique development available.] Drako’s exhaustion disappeared behind a smile. Two new abilities meant more than additional power. They meant more combinations. More unpredictability. More ways to make his Dragonic and Vampiric sides work together.

The tournament board changed. [32 COMPETITORS REMAIN.] Drako found his name. Then he noticed Draxen, Kaien, Mira, Raizen, and Adrian had all advanced. Teck wasn’t participating yet, but he watched the board carefully. Drako looked at the remaining fighters. The tournament was becoming harder, exactly as he wanted. And somewhere beneath all the excitement, he knew the Azunakkii mystery, the ancient ruins, and the strange black device hadn’t disappeared. They were waiting. But Drako wasn’t ready for that war yet. Right now, every battle was preparing him for the day when he would be.
