But the tree growing on his land was worth far more.
Carlos was about to tell Cosmic about the Silverwood’s growth time when a notification appeared over the Spirit Farmland.
[Silverwood growth has paused]
Carlos’s smile vanished.
He rushed toward the plot.
A tiny silver shoot had already broken through the soil, but a thin blue line was spreading across its first leaf.
Rowan crouched beside it.
"Do you know what is happening?" Carlos asked.
The Farmer examined the soil, touched the leaf, and checked the amount of water around its stem.
"No, my lord. The soil is fertile, and it has enough water. This is not something I recognize."
The system panel changed.
[Spirit Farmland mutation effect activated]
[Silverwood is undergoing an unknown mutation]
[Interference during mutation may destroy the crop]
[Mutation completion: 01:59:59]
Carlos stared at the timer.
"Mutation?" he thought aloud, making Rowan frown.
"I do not like anything interfering with crop growth, but this could be good, my lord..." Rowan said.
Carlos nodded.
Still, they would not know what was growing in the field for another two hours.
Carlos remained beside the silver shoot for several minutes.
The blue line continued spreading across its only leaf, but nothing else changed.
"We cannot touch it," Carlos said.
"Then watching it will not help, my lord," Rowan replied.
"Maybe this is the Slime Fruit mutation the land mentioned."
Rowan only shrugged after hearing that.
The Silverwood Seed was the first Rare crop Carlos had ever planted. It was also the most valuable thing growing inside his territory.
One wrong change could destroy it before it ever became a tree.
"Tell me if you notice anything going wrong with the sapling," Carlos said.
"I can do that."
Rowan could recognize whether a plant was healthy. He did not need to understand the mutation to notice if the shoot started dying.
Carlos finally stepped away and opened the chat.
Cosmic had sent him a list.

[Offers recorded for unknown Rare resource]
[Lord IronWall] - Wood x50
[PookAcrylic] - Stone x30, Copper Coins x20
[Lord BlackForge] - Basic Tool Workshop Blueprint x1
[Lord RainFall] - Pure Water x100, Wood x20
[Anonymous] - Common Sword x1, Wood x20
--
Carlos read through them twice.
--
[Carlos Goldwin] - BlackForge offered the same blueprint I could have taken from the event. Is it a common item?
[Cosmic Merchant] - It is one of the basic blueprints a territory needs to get started, so you will probably get it today or tomorrow if you survive. It all comes down to how long you are willing to wait, though.
[Carlos Goldwin] - I see.
[Cosmic Merchant] - But this is a great opportunity. If you did not choose the blueprint, that means you got something better. If you get this too, it will be great for your development.
--
Carlos took a deep breath.
It was annoying how easily Cosmic understood him.
--
[Carlos Goldwin] - How much of the Rare material should I offer?
[Cosmic Merchant] - Tell me again what the Rare item is.
[Carlos Goldwin] - I have 6 pieces of Rare wood called Silverwood. I do not know what it is good for, though.
[Cosmic Merchant] - It does not matter. A Rare item is always valuable at this level. I would recommend that you do not sell more than 2 pieces. Also, I need to tell you something, Carlos.
[Cosmic Merchant] - The merchant inside me says you will keep finding things like this. After some time, I want to buy these items from you myself and resell them later, or find good deals for you and take a share.
[Carlos Goldwin] - I do not mind you becoming my dealer as long as I get a good deal and you tell me what your share is.
[Cosmic Merchant] - Got it. We will talk about that later when I am ready. For now, I will add BlackForge to a private group with us. Let us see what we can get.
--
Cosmic added BlackForge to a temporary private chat.
--
[Cosmic Merchant] - Carlos is willing to offer one unit of his Rare material.
[BlackForge] - What material?
[Carlos Goldwin] - Silverwood.
[BlackForge] - Alright. Send the description.
--
Carlos showed only the description of the harvested Silverwood. There was nothing in it that revealed the tree growing inside his territory.
BlackForge remained silent for almost a minute.
--
[BlackForge] - One piece is not enough for a blueprint.
[Cosmic Merchant] - Then make a counteroffer.
[BlackForge] - Three Silverwood.
[Carlos Goldwin] - No.
[BlackForge] - Two.
[Carlos Goldwin] - One Silverwood and 10 Copper Coins.
[BlackForge] - Add 10 Wood.
--
Carlos only had thirteen normal Wood.
The workshop itself would require more resources to construct, so losing most of his Wood before even seeing its requirements was a bad idea.
--
[Carlos Goldwin] - One Silverwood and 15 Copper Coins. Final offer.
--
BlackForge took another minute.
[Trade Request from BlackForge]
Carlos checked every part of the trade before accepting.
[Silverwood x1 and Copper Coins x15 exchanged for Basic Tool Workshop Blueprint x1]
--
[BlackForge] - If you obtain more Silverwood, contact me first.
--
The temporary private group remained open in case BlackForge obtained more useful items later, though that was only wishful thinking for now.
--
[Cosmic Merchant] - I will not take anything for this deal. We can start doing that later.
[Carlos Goldwin] - Alright, and thanks, man. I appreciate it.
[Cosmic Merchant] - Fuck off.
--
Carlos closed the temporary chat and inspected the blueprint.

He could not build it yet, but that did not matter.
The blueprint would remain in his inventory until he gathered enough resources. More importantly, Carlos would no longer need to depend entirely on Cosmic whenever a tool broke.
"My lord."
Rowan’s voice made him close every panel.
Carlos hurried back toward the Spirit Farmland and he stopped for a second to realize what he was looking at.
He didn’t expect this at all.
