Carlos sent Cosmic 10 Coins and accepted the weapon trade.

Carlos used the Trade section to buy two Minor Recovery Potions for another forty Copper Coins.
The spear appeared in his hands.
It was almost a head taller than him. The dark wooden shaft was thick enough to survive a hard strike, while two metal strips ran down from the iron spearhead and reinforced its weakest point.
Carlos moved away from the fields and tested its weight.
One thrust.
One sweep.
Then a quick turn into another thrust.
It was heavier than the wooden spear, but the weight made every attack feel more stable.

Carlos grinned.
"This will work."
He spent the next hour practising.
The first Conquest had taught him what happened when confidence replaced preparation. This time, he checked the spear, tested the range of One’s Water Shot, and drank enough water before approaching the portal.
He also placed two Minor Recovery Potions in the easiest inventory slots to reach.
Rowan watched him from beside the wheat.
"You are entering again, my lord?"
"Yes."
The Farmer looked at the new spear and the Blue Water Slime beside Carlos.
"I know nothing about Conquest."
"I know."
"Then all I can say is that you should come back in better condition than last time."
"That is the plan."
Carlos stopped in front of the Conquest Portal.
He selected Level 2.

[Hard]
[Elite]
[Nightmare]
[Hell]
Carlos looked at One.
Then he remembered the rewards that had turned his barren territory into what it was now.
His finger moved toward Hell.
A red warning appeared before he could select it.

[Unlike Water Slimes, all attacks may cause lethal injuries]

Carlos selected Yes.
If they had weapons, then he was finally fighting with an advantage. His training before coming here had been specifically meant to prepare him for armed enemies.

The red warning disappeared.
One bounced beside his leg.
Carlos looked down at the Blue Water Slime and took a deep breath.
"Stay behind me. Shoot anything that tries to surround us."
One bounced again.
The portal pulled both of them inside.
Carlos opened his eyes in the middle of an abandoned village.
Small wooden huts stood on both sides of a dirt road. Most of the roofs had collapsed, and broken carts blocked several paths between the buildings.
There was no forest wall behind him this time.
There was no safe direction at all.

Carlos inspected everything around him.
The road was too open. If enemies appeared from every direction, One would be easy to reach.
He entered the closest hut.
The inside was narrow and smelled like wet wood. There was one door, two windows, and a large hole in the back wall.
"Bad."
He moved to the next building.
Its roof was damaged, but the walls were intact. A broken table and several chairs remained inside.
There was only one entrance.
Carlos dragged the table onto its side and placed it across half the doorway.
"You stay here."
One bounced behind the table.
From that position, the slime could shoot through the open half of the doorway, while enemies would have to enter one at a time.
Carlos stood outside with his spear.

He moved the weapon through one final thrust.
The iron head stopped exactly where he wanted it to.
This was nothing like the broken wooden spear he had used against the slimes.
"Come on."
[Wave 1 has commenced]
Green lights appeared across the village.
Some formed on the main road. Others appeared between the huts and on top of the damaged roofs.
When the light disappeared, Carlos saw the goblins.
They were short, thin creatures with green skin and long, pointed ears. Torn cloth covered parts of their bodies.
But Carlos did not look at their clothes.
He looked at their weapons.
Rusty knives.
Wooden clubs.
Stone axes.
Three goblins on the roofs carried slings.
One of them screamed.
The others rushed toward him.
"One, roof!"
Carlos pointed at the closest sling user.
One’s body stretched from inside the hut.
A Water Shot flew through the doorway and struck the goblin’s chest.
The creature fell backward and disappeared from the roof.
Carlos had no time to see if it had died.
The first Goblin Scavenger reached him and swung a club at his knee.
Carlos stepped back, and the club missed.
His spear entered the goblin’s chest the next second, and the iron head passed completely through its body.
Carlos frowned for a fraction of a second.
The slimes had burst like jelly, but this enemy screamed.
Hot blood ran down the spear shaft.
But there was no time to think.
Another goblin came from the side with a knife.
Carlos pulled the spear free and turned.
The knife moved toward his stomach.
He struck the goblin’s wrist with the wooden shaft.
Something cracked.
The knife fell as the goblin lost the strength in its hand.
Carlos kicked the creature into the road and drove the spear through its neck.

A stone struck the wall beside Carlos’s head.
The sling users.
He moved behind the corner of the hut before another stone could reach him.
Four goblins continued running down the road.
Carlos stayed close to the wall and waited.
The first one turned the corner, and his spear was already moving.
It entered beneath the goblin’s chin.
Carlos pushed the body backward into the others.
They fell over one another.
One fired from the doorway.
The Water Shot struck a goblin’s face and made it drop its axe.
Carlos stepped forward and thrust twice.
