My Farming Domain Is Broken

Chapter 25. 2nd Conquest (4)- A core’s death?

Carlos looked at the wound in his shoulder where the arrow had been buried.

The final wave had fewer enemies, but none of them seemed weak.

Carlos had ten minutes, and he decided to use every single second of it.

The Field Treatment Kit had removed the arrowhead, but his left shoulder still felt stiff. He moved it slowly until he could lift the spear without reopening the wound.

Then he inspected the three Barbed Javelins.

--

Barbed Javelin

Uncommon Grade

A short throwing spear designed to remain inside its target.

Effects:

Bleeding increased after penetration.

Removing the javelin causes additional damage.

--

Carlos placed them against the wall beside the narrow road.

They were too large for One’s Water Knife ability, but he could throw them himself.

The four rusty knives from the first wave were a different matter.

He pushed one into One’s body.

The slime hardened its water around the handle without being told.

"Good. The other three will stay in my inventory. I will give them to you when you need them."

One bounced.

Carlos looked at the weapons he had collected.

The Hunter Bows would be useless without training. The Short Spears were worse than his own weapon, and trying to carry several would only slow him down.

But the Curved Blades could help if he lost his spear in close combat.

Carlos attached one to his belt.

[Final wave in 5 minutes]

He climbed onto the strongest roof and looked beyond the village.

The dirt road continued into the forest. Something large moved between the trees, but the distance made it impossible to see clearly.

Carlos returned to the ground.

The barricade had been destroyed during the second wave. He used the remaining boards and wolf bodies to rebuild it, leaving only one narrow opening.

The goblins might move the bodies or climb over them, while the Dire Wolf would have to jump over everything.

Either way, the barricade would slow them down.

"One, roof."

The slime squeezed through a hole and climbed onto the low building beside the road.

From there, it would have a clear line of sight.

Carlos placed one Barbed Javelin on the roof beside it.

"Protect this."

He kept the other two near himself.

[Final wave in 1 minute]

Carlos drank some water and tightened the straps of his Reinforced Leather Vest.

His new Wolfhide Boots felt lighter than anything he had worn before.

The first Conquest had started with a wooden spear and a shirt.

Now he had two pieces of Uncommon equipment, potions, throwing weapons, and a Level 2 troop.

This was what preparing better looked like.

[Final wave has commenced]

Twelve red lights appeared outside the village.

The eight Goblin Warriors formed in two lines.

Each one was larger than the Scavengers and Hunters. They wore leather armour reinforced with wood and carried round shields with short iron swords.

The Goblin Beastmaster stood behind them.

Bones and animal teeth hung from its clothes. A long black whip was wrapped around one arm.

Beside it stood the Dire Wolf.

The beast was almost as tall as Carlos’s chest. Its fur was black, and old scars crossed its face. Leather armour protected its neck and the most vulnerable parts of its body.

Then the Hobgoblin Captain appeared.

It was taller than Carlos.

Dark red skin covered arms thicker than the other goblins’ bodies. Iron armour protected its chest, shoulders, and legs.

The weapon in its hands was a long, crescent-bladed glaive.

Carlos used Inspect.

Carlos looked at his own health.

Three hundred and two.

The Captain had more than twice as much.

But Carlos had no more time to think when the Beastmaster raised two fingers and whistled.

The Dire Wolf charged the very next second, but the Warriors did not follow.

They moved forward slowly with their shields locked together.

"They want the wolf to break the barricade."

Carlos grabbed a Barbed Javelin.

He waited until the Dire Wolf reached the first hut.

Then he threw it with precision.

The javelin crossed the road and struck the animal’s armoured neck, but it did not penetrate.

The metal point scraped across the leather and flew into the dirt.

The Dire Wolf jumped and cleared the entire barricade in one leap.

"One!"

A Water Knife came from the roof.

The rusty blade struck the wolf’s side.

Its tip only entered slightly, but the force changed the beast’s direction in the air.

It landed beside Carlos instead of on top of him.

Carlos took full advantage of the opening and thrust forward.

The Dire Wolf twisted with impossible speed.

The spearhead cut its front leg but missed its chest.

Its claws struck Carlos’s vest, and the impact threw him into the wall.

Carlos pushed away from the wall before the wolf could attack again.

He held the spear sideways to protect himself.

The Dire Wolf bit down on the reinforced shaft.

Carlos twisted the weapon and forced the iron head toward its eye.

The beast winced, released the spear, and jumped backward.

One fired a Water Shot at the perfect moment, but the Dire Wolf avoided that too.

It moved behind the hut and disappeared.

Carlos had no time to chase it because the Goblin Warriors had reached the barricade.

Four started moving the bodies while the others kept their shields raised.

One fired at them, but the water burst across the first shield.

The Warrior barely moved.

"Save your mana!"

The Hobgoblin Captain pointed its glaive toward the roof.

Two Warriors separated from the formation and entered the buildings on either side.

They were going after One.

Carlos took the second Barbed Javelin and threw it.

One Warrior raised its shield.

The javelin entered the wood and remained lodged there.

The Warrior’s arm immediately dropped under the added weight.

Carlos did not waste the opportunity.

Any disadvantage to his enemies was an advantage to him.

He ran forward.

His Wolfhide Boots made his steps feel light against the dirt.

He reached the goblin before it could remove the javelin.

His spear passed over the lowered shield and entered its throat.

[Goblin Warrior eliminated]

Carlos took a deep breath.

The goblins might have been more skilled and better armoured, but a single strike to a vital point could still end them instantly.

That was the strategy Carlos intended to follow.

The second Warrior turned toward him and roared.

Carlos responded by pulling the spear free and attacking.

The goblin blocked.

The iron spearhead struck the round shield without breaking it.

But the Warrior was already prepared to attack from below.

Carlos moved his leg away, but the sword still cut across his thigh.

He struck the goblin’s shield again.

Then a third time.

The Warrior expected another attack from the front.

Carlos changed his grip and swept the lower end of the spear behind its ankles.

The goblin fell to the ground with a thud.

Carlos immediately stabbed through the gap beneath its armour, killing it without hesitation.

[Goblin Warrior eliminated]

Six Warriors remained.

Carlos looked toward the roof.

One was still safe.

Then Carlos saw the Dire Wolf slowly approaching it from another rooftop without making a sound.

It had climbed the collapsed side of a building and was now only a short jump away from One.

"ONE!"

The slime turned after following Carlos’s gaze.

The wolf struck it with one armoured paw.

One flew from the roof and hit the road.

--

One’s HP: 52/110

--

The Dire Wolf jumped after it.

Carlos ran, but the shield formation moved between them.

Six Warriors locked their shields together, and the Hobgoblin Captain walked behind them.

"MOVE!"

Carlos drove his spear into the centre shield.

The Captain’s glaive came down over the Warriors’ heads.

Its crescent blade struck Carlos’s spear and smashed it into the ground.

The force nearly ripped the weapon from his hands.

The Captain stepped through the formation and looked at Carlos.

A smile slowly crept across its face.

Behind it, the Dire Wolf placed one paw over One’s exposed core.

Carlos released the spear with one hand and grabbed the Curved Blade from his belt.

The Hobgoblin Captain raised its glaive.

Before it could strike, Carlos threw the blade without looking away from it.

The weapon spun past the shield formation.

It missed the Dire Wolf’s head but cut across its ear.

The beast turned toward Carlos and whimpered.

The blade had torn away a large piece of its ear, leaving the surrounding fur soaked in blood.

That was enough.

"QUICKLY, SAVE YOURSELF!" Carlos shouted.

One moved its core deeper into its body and released a Water Shot directly into the wolf’s face.

The Dire Wolf jumped backward.

One rolled away and squeezed beneath a broken cart.

Carlos grabbed his spear with both hands again.

The Captain’s glaive came down.
