More space was useful, but empty land did not produce anything by itself. Saving two tokens would let him expand later when he had a building or field that required them.
He closed the panel.
"Rowan, I need more farmland."
The Farmer walked over and looked at the newly expanded land.
"The ground is dry and full of stone."
"Can it be used?"
Rowan crouched, dug into the soil and rubbed it between his fingers.
"It can be tilled, but it will not match the two plots the system gave you. Crops will grow at their normal speed unless the soil is improved."
"That is fine. We need quantity."
Carlos opened Land Development.

He selected Rowan.
The Farmer’s eyes briefly shone.
Lines appeared over the barren ground, dividing it into several possible fields.
Rowan walked between them and rejected the areas with the most rocks. He finally stopped near the Mana Spring, but far enough away that the new field would not interfere with the Tidal Silverwood’s roots.

Carlos looked at Rowan.
"You are still recovering," the Farmer said before Carlos could speak.
"My arms work."
"Your rib does not."
"Don’t worry, I can avoid tilling with my ribs."
Rowan’s frown deepened.
Carlos tried summoning the Crude Stone Axes before remembering that he had sold all of them.
Nothing appeared.
"Right."
He still had the Wooden Hoe, but only one.
Carlos opened the Tool Workshop Blueprint.

Carlos placed the workshop beside the Basic Kitchen.

Carlos started production.
While the workshop shaped the wood, he removed stones from the future field by hand. Rowan continued tending the wheat until the hoe was finished.
Then they began tilling together.
Carlos drove the new hoe into the dry ground.
The movement pulled against his rib, but he adjusted his stance and continued.
Rowan’s lines were straight and evenly spaced.
Carlos’s were not.
"You are making the field wider on that side," Rowan said.
"More land means more wheat."
"It means crooked rows."
"The wheat will survive a few crooked lines."
"The wheat is not what concerns me."
Carlos chuckled and corrected the line.
Blue moved water from the Mana Spring to soften the hardest patches. One used Water Shot against large stones until the soil around them loosened enough for Carlos to pull them out.
All four members of the territory contributed in the only ways they could.
After three hours, the system notification appeared.

At normal speed, the wheat would take eight hours to grow. Rowan’s passive ability and Mana Water could reduce that, but it would never match the Rare plot.
But that did not matter.
The Rare plot produced quickly. It was its strength.
The Common field produced in quantity. And that was its strength.
Carlos gave Rowan the wheat seeds.
Together, they planted all two hundred.

His whole body hurt again, but rows of dark soil now covered a large part of the expanded territory.
"Eighty meals tomorrow," he spoke.
Rowan looked at the field.
"If the harvest is healthy, there will be enough."
Carlos opened the Trade section to check the new seed offers.
Dozens of Common edible seeds waited in his inventory, but wheat remained the easiest crop to process into a basic meal.
For now, he would build a stable supply before adding variety.
A notification appeared from the Basic Kitchen.

There were none.
