My Farming Domain Is Broken

Chapter 30. When Food becomes Power

Basic Kitchen

Common Grade

Allows ingredients to be processed into basic cooked meals.

Effects:

Cooking speed increased.

Food prepared inside the kitchen can be stored in the Lord’s Inventory for 24 hours without losing freshness.

Available Recipes depend on ingredients and cooking knowledge.

Building Requirements:

Wood x40

Stone x30

Iron Ore x5

--

The Lord’s hut could prepare food, but it was slow and the finished meals did not receive system protection. The kitchen would let Carlos produce food in quantities large enough to trade.

--

[Carlos Goldwin]- Accept it.

[Cosmic Merchant]- I can probably push for another fifty coins.

[Carlos Goldwin]- The kitchen is more important. Accept before he changes his mind.

[Cosmic Merchant]- That’s not how this works, give me a moment.

--

[Trade completed]

The entire Goblin military package disappeared from Carlos’s inventory.

Carlos did not feel regret about it. He had turned rewards meant for one path into resources for the path he actually wanted. It was risky but all his play had been risky all this time.

Cosmic brought 50 more copper coins and took a share of his own after some discussion.

Carlos didn’t mind giving a share as Cosmic was taking on a work that was a headache to deal with on his own. That was negotiation.

Carlos placed the Basic Kitchen beside the Lord’s hut.

[Wood x40 consumed]

[Stone x30 consumed]

[Iron Ore x5 consumed]

The territory shook.

A small stone building formed with a wide iron cooking surface, storage shelves and two large covered pots.

Carlos looked at Rowan.

And the Farmer noticed immediately.

"I grow food, my lord. I do not cook it."

"I know."

Carlos had learned his lesson about assuming Rowan knew anything outside farming.

He would handle the first meals himself.

The kitchen recognized the wheat and water inside his inventory.

[Available basic recipe detected]

--

Wheat Porridge

Basic Cooked Meal

Ingredients per meal:

Common Wheat x2

Pure Water x1

Restores hunger and a small amount of stamina.

--

Carlos cooked twenty meals.

The system handled the fire and temperature after he added the ingredients, but he still needed to stir each pot and prevent the wheat from sticking.

Half an hour later, twenty sealed wooden bowls entered his inventory.

[Basic Cooked Meal x20 obtained]

Carlos opened the Trade section.

Raw wheat already had buyers.

Cooked food had far more.

--

[Requesting any Cooked Meal x1]

[Offering Wood x3]

[Requesting Basic Food x5]

[Offering Stone x12]

[Requesting Cooked Food x10]

[Offering Iron Ore x8]

--

Every Lord had to eat.

Their troops consumed even more.

Military Lords could survive their first day using starting food and conquest rations, but those supplies would disappear. Their barracks would continue summoning troops that needed two or more meals every day.

Carlos selected the best requests.

[Basic Cooked Meal x5 exchanged for Wood x15]

[Basic Cooked Meal x5 exchanged for Stone x12]

[Basic Cooked Meal x10 exchanged for Iron Ore x8]

All twenty meals sold in less than ten seconds.

Carlos stared at the empty meal slot.

The profits were not enormous.

But wheat grew in less than an hour.

He did not need to enter Hell difficulty, suffer broken bones or risk One’s life to produce it.

He only needed seeds, soil, water and time.

Carlos reopened his public trade requests.

This time, he did not ask for Rare seeds.

--

[Requesting: Common edible seeds]

[Offering: Copper Coins, wood or cooked meals]

[Maximum Acceptances: 50]

--

Potatoes, beans, berry seeds, vegetables and grains began appearing.

[Trade completed]

[Common Wheat Seeds x100 obtained]

[Assorted Common Edible Seeds x75 obtained]

Most were Common grade.

None looked as impressive as the Tidal Silverwood.

Carlos smiled anyway.

Rare crops could make his territory famous but basic crops? They would make it necessary.

A new message came from Cosmic.

--

[Cosmic Merchant]- How quickly can you produce one hundred cooked meals?

[Carlos Goldwin]- Why?

[Cosmic Merchant]- Because I have six military Lords ready to buy them every day.

[Cosmic Merchant]- And together, their troops need three hundred and forty meals.

--

Carlos looked at his two plots of land.

For the first time, they seemed far too small.

Carlos opened the Basic Kitchen panel.

--

Daily Meal Capacity: 20/100

Workers: 0/2

--

Even if he had enough wheat, the kitchen could only produce one hundred meals every day.

Cosmic’s buyers needed more than three times that amount.

--

[Carlos Goldwin]- I can produce eighty meals for sale tomorrow.

[Cosmic Merchant]- Only eighty?

[Carlos Goldwin]- The kitchen can make one hundred. The territory needs food too.

[Cosmic Merchant]- I see. We will have to work on upgrading the kitchen soon enough. Just keep growing as much food as you can.

[Carlos Goldwin]- Bro, you have been helping me for so long, are you even focusing on your domain?

[Cosmic Merchant]- Heh, seems you don’t know me son. I have been flipping coins for resources and resources for better stuff all day. I am close to getting enough to summon another lizardman later.

[Carlos Goldwin]- That’s great. Alright let’s be done with this deal first.

--

Carlos looked outside.

Rowan was eating a handful of Wild Berries while working.

"..."

The farmer needed two meals a day and that was covered. But he was sure he would have more troops soon enough.

--

[Carlos Goldwin]- I can do 80 meals. No more until I upgrade production.

[Cosmic Merchant]- I will divide them between the six Lords. What price do you want?

[Carlos Goldwin]- Three wood or three stone per meal. Iron can be negotiated.

[Cosmic Merchant]- That is higher than today’s trades.

[Carlos Goldwin]- Today’s meals were available immediately. Tomorrow’s are a guaranteed daily supply.

[Cosmic Merchant]- Alright, smartass. I will get it done.

--

Cosmic returned several minutes later.

Four Lords accepted the price. Two refused and said they would search for cheaper food.

Carlos did not lower it.

--

[Daily Food Agreement]

[Carlos Goldwin will provide Basic Cooked Meal x80]

[Buyers will provide Wood or Stone x240]

[Delivery Time: Before the next daily reset]

[Agreement Duration: 1 day]

[The agreement must be renewed by all parties]

--

Carlos liked the final condition.

He had not promised food forever. If the cost of production changed, he could change the price tomorrow.

Now he needed eighty meals.

That required one hundred and sixty wheat.

Carlos checked the inventory.

After planting, eating and trading, he did not have enough.

The current plot could produce more before the deadline, but relying on one field and one Farmer was dangerous.

He opened the Level 2 territory functions.

--

[LAND DEVELOPMENT]

[RESIDENT CAPACITY]

[BUILDING MANAGEMENT]

[TERRITORY EXPANSION]

--

Carlos selected the last option.

--

Current Territory Area: 900 square meters

Level 2 Natural Expansion Available: 1

Territory Expansion Tokens: 3

Each expansion increases available territory area by 300 square meters.

--

He had received one token from his first conquest and two from the second.

Carlos used the free Level 2 expansion first.

The invisible edge of the territory moved outward.

Empty plain land appeared around the existing buildings and fields until the territory became noticeably wider.
