My Farming Domain Is Broken

Chapter 41. Veteran Guard Captain and the guards [BONUS]

Carlos watched the items move past.

An Epic sword appeared on the first wheel and disappeared immediately.

The second passed over a Rare barrack.

The third showed a bag of Common stones three different times.

"Don’t give me stones."

The first wheel slowed.

Its pointer passed a Recovery Potion, a wooden shield and a small bag of seeds.

It stopped on the seeds.

[First Lucky Draw completed]

[Common Vegetable Seed Pack x1 obtained]

Carlos stared at it.

"I just decided to focus on military strength."

But the system did not care. He opened the pack description.

--

Common Vegetable Seed Pack

Contains:

Carrot Seeds x10

Onion Seeds x10

Cabbage Seeds x10

Tomato Seeds x10

Green Herb Seeds x10

--

It was useful. But also the exact opposite of what Carlos wanted at that moment.

Mira looked over his shoulder and smiled.

"Those would make the meals much better."

"You can have them."

Carlos gave her the entire pack.

[Mira Favorability increased by 5]

"Thank you! I will ask Rowan where we can plant them."

Mira left before Carlos could explain that the Common Farmland currently looked like a battlefield.

The second wheel slowed.

It passed an Uncommon spear, a Worker Lodge and a blue crystal covered in silver lines.

The pointer stopped on the crystal.

[Second Lucky Draw completed]

[Territory Barrier Core x1 obtained]

--

Territory Barrier Core

Uncommon Grade

Creates a temporary protective barrier around a Lord’s territory.

Effects:

Barrier Duration: 10 minutes

Cooldown: 24 hours

Maximum Protected Area: 2,000 square meters

Activation Cost: Mana Crystal x5

The barrier blocks physical entry until its durability is depleted.

--

Carlos held the fist-sized crystal. The barrier could protect his entire current territory, but he did not possess any Mana Crystals.

It was powerful and completely unusable. But only for now.

He stored it carefully and observed the third wheel that continued spinning.

It was moving slower than the others had, but golden and purple rewards still passed the pointer.

Carlos saw a Rare weapon.

Then an Epic fruit.

Then a Common bag of stones.

"Not the stones," he said again, as if thinking it would change anything.

The pointer passed them.

It slowed over a silver contract marked with a shield.

[Third Lucky Draw completed]

[Rare reward obtained]

[Veteran Territory Guard Contract x1]

Carlos opened it immediately.

--

Veteran Territory Guard Contract

Rare Grade

Recruits a trained squad that has sworn to defend a territory rather than serve a military domain.

Contract Members:

Veteran Guard Captain x1

Veteran Guards x4

Starting Level: 3-4

Standard Equipment Provided

Daily Food Consumption: 3 Basic Meals per guard

Contract Condition:

The guards must receive food and shelter.

If either requirement remains unfulfilled for three days, the contract will end.

--

Carlos read it twice.

’Five trained guards’

They did not require a barrack, construction materials or daily summons. They would increase his military strength immediately.

The food cost was fifteen meals a day. His upgraded kitchen could handle that easily.

Shelter was the only problem.

The Lord’s hut barely had enough room for Carlos. Rowan used the Farmer’s Lodge, Mira had the Hearthkeeper Lodge and Brann had his hall.

Carlos purchased another two hundred wood and one hundred stone through the Trade section. Raid preparation had kept prices high, costing him three hundred and fifty Copper Coins, but waiting for cheaper materials would also delay his defenses.

Carlos opened Building Management.

--

Basic Residence

Common Grade

Resident Capacity: 6

Building Requirements:

Wood x80

Stone x30

Production Time: 1 hour

--

He had enough resources.

Carlos selected a position near the center of the territory, between the Bearkin Hall and the Lord’s hut.

[Basic Residence construction started]

[Time Remaining: 59:59]

He waited before activating the contract.

Summoning five people without somewhere for them to sleep would immediately begin their relationship with a broken promise.

Instead, Carlos used the hour to inspect the other defensive rewards.

--

Territory Guard Tower

Common Grade

A raised defensive platform that improves vision and protects one ranged defender.

Building Requirements:

Wood x50

Stone x20

--

Carlos had two blueprints.

He placed one tower at the northern edge and the second at the southern edge. The wooden platforms rose above the fields, giving clear views across the expanded territory.

One could use either tower, but a slime could not climb a ladder easily.

Carlos added a sloped wooden path to the northern tower.

One bounced up it and looked down from the platform.

[Blue Water Slime One assigned to Northern Guard Tower]

[Water Shot range increased by 20% while stationed]

The Iron Wall Section Blueprint worked differently.

It allowed Carlos to build connected wall sections instead of producing a complete wall at once.

--

Iron-reinforced Wall Section

Length: 5 meters

Requirements per section:

Wood x15

Stone x10

Iron Ore x2

--

He did not have enough to surround all 1,800 square meters.

Carlos constructed six sections around the most exposed side of the Spirit Farmland and Mana Spring.

It was only thirty meters of wall.

It still gave the territory its first permanent defensive line.

Brann came out of his hall and struck one section with his fist.

The wall shook but remained standing.

"Better," he said.

[Brann Favorability increased by 5]

Carlos used the Basic Defensive Formation Book next.

[Territory skill learned: Defensive Positions]

--

Defensive Positions

Common Territory Skill

Allows guards and combat troops to receive small defensive bonuses when assigned to prepared walls, towers or entrances.

Effect:

Defense +5% while holding an assigned position.

--

The Basic Residence finished shortly afterward. Carlos stood in front of it and activated the Rare contract.

The silver paper dissolved into five lights.

And five human figures appeared in front of the residence.

They all wore dark leather armor reinforced with metal plates. Two carried spears and shields. One held a sword. Another carried a bow.

The person at the front was a tall woman carrying a longsword over one shoulder.

She appeared a few years older than Carlos. Black hair had been cut short around a calm face, and a thin scar crossed one eyebrow.

Her grey eyes inspected the walls, towers, fields and every person in the territory before settling on Carlos.

She placed one fist against her chest.

"Veteran Guard Captain Kaia reporting with four guards."

The others copied her movement and before saying anything, Carlos opened their profiles.
