Kaia
Veteran Guard Captain
Level 4
Rare Contract Leader
Abilities:
Sword Mastery (Level 2)
Guard Command (Level 2)
Hold Position (Level 1)
Favorability: 15/100
--
The four guards were all Level 3.
For the first time, Carlos had a group of trained people capable of defending the territory without depending entirely on him.
"I am Carlos Goldwin," he said. "Lord of this territory."
Kaia looked toward the damaged field and the dead Raid Boss.
"Your territory has seen recent combat."
"The first raid ended a few hours ago."
"Casualties?"
"None."
Kaia’s eyes returned to him.
[Kaia Favorability increased by 5]
"Then we will work to keep it that way."
Carlos showed her the two towers, wall sections and residence. He explained the Territory Barrier Core, including the missing Mana Crystals.
Kaia listened and then assigned the archer to the southern tower. The two shield guards took the gaps beside the wall, while the final swordsman began walking the territory edge.
Carlos checked the Rankings again.
--
Military Strength Rank: 4,903
Defensive Coverage Rank: 6,110
--
Five guards, two towers and thirty meters of wall had moved him more than thirteen thousand places.
It was a massive improvement but still not enough.
His Production Rank remained first, and the next raid would measure everything he built before then.
Carlos looked at Kaia organizing the guards, Brann testing the wall and One watching from the northern tower.
His territory finally looked a little less like an undefended farm.
Then a trade notification appeared.
[Your request for a cooking worker has received an offer]
Carlos had forgotten to close it after summoning Mira.
The attached item was not another Hearthkeeper.
--
Field Medic Lodge Blueprint
Rare Grade
Damaged: 72%
--
The seller had placed it in the cooking-worker category because both professions could prepare recovery food and handle injured troops.
It could not activate the Territory Barrier Core.
But after seeing how badly every raid injured his defenders, Carlos could not ignore it either.
He opened the offer.
--
[Lord Remedy]- Field Medic Lodge Blueprint
[Condition: Damaged 72%]
[Requested: Copper Coins x80]
--
Eighty coins was cheap for a Rare blueprint.
The damage was the reason.
Carlos inspected the repair requirements.
--
Blueprint Restoration Requirements:
Restoration Ink x3
High-mana Paper x5
Rare Beast Blood x1
Compatible production worker
--
He did not possess any of them.
Mira was a compatible production worker, but cooking knowledge would not let her repair a magical blueprint.
Carlos messaged Cosmic.
--
[Carlos Goldwin]- Is a damaged Rare blueprint worth eighty coins?
[Cosmic Merchant]- Which blueprint?
[Carlos Goldwin]- Field Medic Lodge.
[Cosmic Merchant]- Buy it.
[Carlos Goldwin]- I cannot repair it.
[Cosmic Merchant]- Neither can the seller. Make sure you get it for under one hundred copper coins. We will find the ingredients needed to repair it.
[Cosmic Merchant]- You don’t need to use every investment today. Invest in the future.
--
Carlos accepted the trade.
[Copper Coins x80 exchanged for Damaged Field Medic Lodge Blueprint x1]
The blueprint entered his inventory without changing.
He did not know how long it would remain unused, but one day, it might help him survive whatever misfortune came next. Carlos was no longer sure how dangerous those misfortunes would become.
Carlos stored it beside the Territory Barrier Core. Neither could be used yet, but both were too valuable to discard.
The Tool Workshop finished producing the Iron Butcher Knives and Large Cutting Table. Carlos placed the table beside the Cold Storage construction site.
--
Cold Storage
Uncommon Grade
Building Requirements:
Wood x80
Stone x100
Iron Ore x15
Mana Water x50
--
The Mana Water requirement surprised him, but the spring had already produced enough.
Carlos confirmed the building.
Stone walls rose beside the kitchen. Silver pipes formed through them and carried Mana Water around a sealed inner room.
The temperature inside dropped immediately.
--
Cold Storage
Level 1
Uncommon Grade
Food Capacity: 1,000 units
Freshness loss reduced by 90%.
--
Mira walked into the cold room and released a happy laugh.
"We can keep all the boar meat."
"Only if we process it before it all rots."
"We can. I will show you."
For the next several hours, Carlos helped her butcher the Razorback Boars.
It was dirty, exhausting work.
Mira showed him where to cut without damaging the best meat and which organs could be used in food. She did not recognize every part of the magical beasts, so anything uncertain remained untouched.
Rowan had no butchering knowledge and stayed with the damaged fields.
Kaia assigned two guards to move the processed meat into Cold Storage. The others repaired barriers and watched the territory edge.
Brann carried entire boar bodies to the cutting table without effort.
By the time they stopped, only six boars had been processed.
--
Razorback Meat x180
Razorback Hide x12
Razorback Tusk x12
Razorback Bone x30
--
Fourteen bodies remained.
Carlos looked at the Cold Storage.
One raid had given him enough meat to improve hundreds of meals.
"Can you cook it tonight?"
Mira nodded.
"The kitchen has a Roasted Meat recipe. I want to test the safest cuts first."
Carlos explained the existing food agreements and the additional thirty meals promised as part of the Hearthkeeper Lodge trade.
Mira listened and counted everything on her fingers.
"I can finish all of them before the next reset," she said. "The meat will make it easier because each portion is more filling than porridge. So fewer ingredients will be used."
"Keep enough for everyone here. Fifteen meals for the guards, five for Brann and whatever the rest of us need."
"I will not sell our dinner."
She smiled at him and Carlos did the same.
Kaia approached before he could remain in the kitchen.
"Lord Carlos, the defensive inspection is complete," she said. He followed her outside.
Kaia showed him every weakness she had found. The walls protected only a small part of the territory. The two towers could see most approaches, but neither had a clear view behind the Bearkin Hall.
The residence and kitchen stood too close together. One large attack could damage both.
Carlos told her about the raid scaling record and how development increased future enemy strength.
Kaia listened carefully.
"Then every new production building requires more defensive coverage," she said.
"Exactly."
"Five guards cannot cover this territory forever, my lord."
"The Bearkin Hall and Slime Barrack can summon more every day."
