My Girlfriend Is a Demon Queen

Chapter 49: Oh... so that’s... that’s why."

She had caught him tight in her arms right before he hit the floor.

She... she actually caught me? Is this really happening?

That was the very first thought that crossed Himanshu’s mind. And why he was thinking that right now surprised even him.

Usually, whenever he thought about something like this or had a dream about it, his body would slowly start heating up. But right now... it was actually happening. So his body getting warm was bound to happen.

But that first thought was still messing with his head.

Before he could push it away, or feel that warm touch a little longer, the The Demon quickly helped Himanshu stand upright, but her hands were still resting on his body.

Through the sweaty hair sticking to his forehead, Himanshu looked at the Demon’s flawless body. For some reason, in that single split-second, every part of her started looking incredibly attractive to him.

His eyes started wandering down from her soft lips. Down to her neck, and just as they were about to move toward her chest...

The Demon suddenly jerked her hands away from his shoulders and chest.

Like she had just made some massive mistake by grabbing him in the first place.

The moment he felt that, Himanshu’s gaze shot straight up and locked onto her eyes.

The Demon’s narrowed eyes were darting around the room. It was obvious she was searching for the answer herself—why did she actually save him?

Seeing that, Himanshu’s first thought came right back to him. And right then, the Demon started looking at him normally again.

Forcing a faint smile, Himanshu spoke.

"Thanks for catching me."

Their eyes met.

Her gaze was still wandering, still confused. But maybe she didn’t have that ’what do I say now’ panic anymore.

Not even three seconds passed before she looked away.

Without saying a word, without a single expression on her face, she quietly turned around with those empty eyes and walked over to the bed.

She tried her best to play it cool. She walked like absolutely nothing had happened. But maybe... she couldn’t completely force her eyes to look normal.

Himanshu kept watching her until she sat on the edge of the bed, letting her legs hang off. She locked her eyes right back onto the empty wall in front of her.

He wanted to ask her why she did it. But doing it so soon didn’t feel right.

Still, seeing the Demon this restless for the first time gave Himanshu a weird sense of peace deep down. He had felt that same peace a little while ago, when he was in her arms for that one split second.

But that feeling had vanished instantly back then. Now, he could actually feel it properly.

Hiding a small smile, Himanshu ignored the pain in his body, leaned down, and picked up his dropped pen.

For a few seconds, he just stared at the pen. He remembered how it had slipped from his hand just a few moments ago, and how miserable he had felt.

Letting out a faint chuckle, he glanced over at the Demon.

She looked away and glued her eyes back to the wall.

Without a word, Himanshu sat down in his chair, letting his legs hang just like hers.

A different, heavy silence filled the room.

This time, her arms weren’t crossed over her chest. They were resting in her lap, and she was picking at her nails.

Breaking that heavy silence, Himanshu clicked his pen to grab her attention.

"Mom was just pissed off at me," he started, his voice calm. "The thing is, since I was a kid, I’ve always loved hot Aloo Parathas. She always makes them fresh for me. But today I was late. And she was just waiting for me. To feed me a hot meal. That’s why I went back to talk to her."

The Demon just stared at him, blinking a few times.

Looking at her eyes, Himanshu realized she didn’t really get the emotional depth of what he was saying.

He let out a long breath and tried again.

"When you put in effort for someone, and they just don’t care... it hurts. A lot. And Mom was probably feeling the exact same way back there."

He looked at the Demon with hopeful eyes, thinking maybe she’d finally understand this part of human emotions.

But she just narrowed her eyes.

"I asked why you were pissing your Mom off even more," she said bluntly. "I get that much."

Himanshu blinked in surprise.

"Oh, right." He fumbled for words. "I was just trying to make it up to her. Showing her I still care about her hot Aloo Parathas. I just didn’t want her efforts to feel wasted."

The Demon moved her hands from her lap, gripped the edge of the bed tightly, and spoke.

"I can’t just take my anger out on random strangers here. I read on the phone that breaking someone’s bones, starting fights, or doing anything illegal gets you a fine and a punishment. And The fine is so huge that I could buy a new sword for myself every day for a whole month.

Clenching her hand into a fist, she went on.

"If my powers were actually working here, I would’ve conquered this pathetic world and made my own rules. So, I just take my anger out on you."

Hearing that, Himanshu had absolutely no idea how to react.

For a few seconds, he just stared at her. A terrifying fear and a weird sense of comfort were both swelling up inside him at the same time.

He also realized that expecting a normal, human emotional response from this brutal Demon was a massive mistake.

Clicking his pen four or five times, he gave an awkward smile.

"Oh... so that’s... that’s why."

Without showing a single expression, the Demon got up. She walked over to the switchboard to turn off the lights.

Keeping her finger on the switch, she looked back at him.

"Guess we both got our answers, then."

She flipped the switch.

Click.

The room went pitch black. Now, Himanshu could only see her blurry silhouette in the moonlight spilling through the window.

Trying to read her face in that darkness was impossible.

He kept watching her until she went back and laid down on her bed.

For a few moments, he just stared at her in the dark.

Then, taking a deep breath, he got up from his chair and laid down on his own bed.

So much had happened today that he couldn’t even process it all.

Talking to Priya, throwing out the Demon’s burnt food, the brutal pain of her bite on his neck and crying through it. Hiding that injury from Mom. Explaining love and care to the Demon, getting a cool boss at the cafe, feeling proud of himself... and then, letting that pride make him ignore his Mom’s efforts.

The stares from those random people on the street bringing back awful memories, seeing death coming so close, and then... ending up in her arms and feeling that weird peace.

Feeling this much in a single day... it was bound to happen when you live with a Demon.

But for day one, maybe this was still pretty mild.

And maybe... in a few days, things would actually go back to normal. After all, when you live with someone new, you slowly start figuring them out.

While his mind raced through everything that happened, his thoughts kept freezing on two specific moments.

First, the way he had grabbed her warm hand.

And second, her confused eyes when she saved him from crashing into the floor.

Pulling the blanket over himself, Himanshu lay in the dark, thinking—why did the Demon think it was okay to touch him? Especially when she hates touching humans.

Finally, breaking that suffocating silence, he decided to just ask.

In that quiet, dark room, keeping his voice steady but with a slight hesitation, Himanshu spoke.

"Look, if you don’t want to tell me... I won’t push it," he said, staring toward her in the dark. "But why did you catch me? You hate touching people."
