My Girlfriend Is a Demon Queen

Chapter 50: Yeah, kill her! Kill her! Before she kills us!"

After Himanshu spoke, that same silence from before settled over the room.

He already had a feeling he wouldn’t get an answer. She was a Demon, not some normal person who’d just sit and share what was on her mind.

After staring at her blurry silhouette in the dark for a few moments, when no reply came, he let out a heavy sigh, rolled over to the other side, and decided to just sleep.

But the overthinking completely hijacked his brain. Sleep was nowhere to be found, leaving him tossing and turning over and over again.

Finally, after struggling in bed and fighting his own thoughts for two straight hours, his body settled into one place. He slowly drifted off into a deep sleep.

The afternoon sun was blazing. Himanshu was walking toward the cafe with Priya when a massive crowd gathered around a wall on the other side of the road caught his attention. The mob was screaming at someone like crazy.

"Kill her! Kill her before she kills us!"

Kicking his cycle stand down, Himanshu gave Priya a faint smile, asked her to wait for two minutes, and walked ahead to see what the crowd was doing.

That’s when his eyes dropped to their raised hands. They were gripping heavy stones, iron rods, and bats, ready to strike.

Suddenly, a voice from the middle of the crowd froze Himanshu’s feet right to the pavement.

"Don’t listen to that Demon! Just kill her!"

Demon?

Right then, a painful groan echoed from the center of the mob.

With trembling hands and legs, he quickly dashed toward the crowd. His heartbeat got so fast and heavy in his chest that every single thump echoed clearly in his ears.

"Move! Get out of the way! Please, move!" Pushing people aside with shaking hands, Himanshu tried to force his way into that crazy mob.

As he pushed his way forward, his breathing turned into choked sobs. The moisture in his eyes kept growing. And then, pushing past the shoulder of the last person, he looked at the ground in front of him.

His entire body went numb. And his trembling hands froze right there in the air.

Kneeling on the ground, panting hard, the Demon was curled up against the wall. She had her neck tucked into her knees. Squeezing her eyes shut, she held both her trembling hands out in front, making a weak attempt to block the stone-throwing mob.

She wiped the thick blood flowing down her forehead with her shaking hand.

And slowly shifted her gaze toward Himanshu standing in front of her.

As if silently saying— This is all your fault, Himanshu...

Right then, the entire crowd started screaming together again.

"Kill her! Kill her before she kills us!"

Stones rose in the air. The Demon covered her body even more with her trembling hands and squeezed her eyes shut tightly.

Reaching one hand out toward the Demon, Himanshu screamed with everything his throat had, his breaths turning into a cry.

"No! Please, stop!"

And then... his eyes snapped open.

He sat up straight in his bed, his trembling hand still reaching out into the empty air.

He could still clearly hear his fast heartbeat echoing in his ears.

Without wasting a second, he snapped his neck toward the Demon’s bed.

In that faint blue morning light, the Demon was sleeping curled up in her bed like a small kid. He still couldn’t see her face clearly, nor her body.

He just kept looking at her for a few moments, trying to control his heavy breathing. When he was finally sure that she was safe, he let out a sigh of relief.

A dream... it was just a bad dream.

He dropped himself back onto the mattress and figured it was best to go back to sleep.

But after tossing and turning ten to twelve times when sleep didn’t come, he realized that...

Even a dream feels way too real when it happens right before morning.

"Guess I just had a messed-up dream. Whatever... a dream’s just a dream."

Comforting himself in his head, he got up from the bed.

He looked at the clock hanging on the wall. The morning light was bright enough now to roughly make out where the hands were. It was 5:30 on the clock, which was an hour earlier than Himanshu’s usual wake-up time. It was bright enough now to clearly see every single corner of the room.

Keeping himself calm, he tried looking toward the Demon’s bed again.

Her messy hair was falling over her face. She was still in a deep sleep, lying on her side. Her knees were pulled up to her stomach, and one of her hands rested near her face.

Right then, he remembered that face of the Demon from his dream, blood flowing down her injured forehead.

And along with it, that same fast heartbeat returned to his chest.

Looking down, he muttered quietly.

"No... I have to send her back soon. Or else..."

The words just hung there in the air.

Lifting his eyelids, he looked at the Demon.

"This isn’t gonna end well for anyone."

Walking on tiptoes, he crept over to turn on the room’s light. Leaning forward slightly, keeping a close eye on the Demon, he quietly flicked the switch.

Click.

For a second, there was a slight movement in the Demon’s eyes.

But a moment later, she rolled over to the other side and went right back into a deep sleep.

Himanshu just took a step toward his study table when... maybe because of the light, the Demon shifted slightly. The hand that was resting on her face slipped and fell down. And right then... Himanshu’s gaze shot straight to her wrists. The wrists of both her hands.

His eyes narrowed for a second.

There were old scars on her wrists. Scars that looked like they belonged to some prisoner who had been chained up in a dungeon for years as a slave.

In his 18 years of life, Himanshu had never seen scars like that. There were weird shapes formed there, and the skin around the wounds had burn marks, as if those chains had been made of actual flames.

He quietly crept closer and tried to look at her body more carefully. Those marks weren’t anywhere else on her body, except for one other place... there were the exact same burn marks on her ankles, just like the ones on her wrists.

The scars were so disturbing that Himanshu actually reached his hand out to wake her up.

But his hand stopped right there in the air. Waking up this Demon from a deep sleep would probably turn into a massive disaster for him.

Controlling himself, he pulled his hand back.

His mind was completely refusing to accept it.

There was only one place he could find the answer to this mystery.

He turned his steps back toward his study table.

He opened the drawer and started pulling out all his manga books one by one, dropping them on the floor as he checked, but he didn’t find The Demon Queen manga anywhere.

He turned to the nearby shelf where his favorite science fiction and comedy mangas were kept. He checked everything closely, but the manga wasn’t there either.

After searching everywhere around, his eyes finally landed on the other wardrobe in the room, the one the Demon had claimed for herself.

Swallowing the lump in his throat, he gathered his courage, kept an eye on the sleeping Demon behind him, and very slowly opened that wardrobe without making a sound.

As soon as it opened, his eyes got stuck on her clothes hanging right in front for a second. The Demon’s pink vest and panties were hanging there.

Himanshu’s face flushed slightly. He quickly looked down and, with that slightly red face, started patting through the clothes she had kept at the bottom.

Moving the clothes, he instantly realized there was something heavy and hard kept underneath.

He gently lifted the clothes.

And the second he saw what was underneath, his eyes went completely wide.

Underneath, there was a massive, sharp knife, the kind used to chop big fish or meat. Right next to it was a smaller knife, about the size of a finger. And... right next to those knives, there was a condom packet.

And then, it struck Himanshu like lightning. He remembered that the exact same knives were kept in the cafe’s kitchen! What the hell are these knives doing here? For a second, his breath choked in his throat. Was she actually planning to... to me? Without making a sound, with trembling hands, he quickly put the clothes right back the way they were.

He was just reaching out to close the wardrobe when he saw that manga shoved between the clothes in the very bottom drawer.

For a split second, he looked back at the Demon, who was still asleep. Then he gently lifted the clothes and pulled the manga out.

Tucking the manga under his arm, he carefully shut the wardrobe door without making a peep.

Walking on tiptoes, he went and stuffed the manga inside his school bag.

Only one thought was echoing in his head.

I need to figure this out fast, or else... I’m seriously dead meat.

But the second he zipped the bag shut, his mind went blank. He just realized his own stupidity.

Wait, you idiot... if she finds out I went through her wardrobe, I’m a dead man, he yelled at himself in his head. I could literally just buy another copy, you dumbass, or borrow it from Priya. Oh, man...

Without making a noise, dropping his head down, he pulled the manga right back out of his bag.

He tip-toed back to the Demon’s wardrobe. Opening the door, he just reached his hand inside to put the manga right back where it was...

And right then... from right behind him, came the heavy creaking sound of the bed. Creaaak...

"What are you doing?"

The Demon’s sleepy voice echoed through the room.
