My Girlfriend Is a Demon Queen

Chapter 51: Maybe... you should give it a try."

For a few moments, without turning around, Himanshu’s eyes just stayed fixed on that open wardrobe. A weird, numbing coldness ran through his fingertips.

"Y-You..."

Before the Demon could get another word out of her mouth, Himanshu whipped around. His trembling finger pointed straight at her hand, and words slipped out of his mouth between his rapid breaths.

"Your... those burn marks on your hand..."

The Demon’s neck tilted down slightly, and her pupils locked onto her own wrist.

Her eyes narrowed for a second, and in the very next moment, those red pupils shot back up and dug straight into Himanshu’s face.

But in the short time her gaze had wandered, Himanshu’s hands had done their job.

Slamming the wardrobe shut in one swift motion, he stood there with his back pressed completely against the wooden door. Swallowing the spit stuck in his throat, he spoke in a total panic.

"T-Tell me... when... when did you get these?"

Her unblinking, glaring red eyes stayed fixed on Himanshu’s face as if they wanted to squeeze every drop of truth out of him.

And the pressure of that silent stare was slowly breaking whatever little courage Himanshu had left. A weird trembling started in his knees. His hands and legs began reacting on their own, without his brain’s command.

The voice coming from his throat became even quieter and weaker now.

"T-They weren’t there yesterday."

The corners of the Demon’s eyes slowly started narrowing.

"Tell... me."

Before Himanshu could even finish his broken, stammering words... a shadow flashed right in front of his eyes in a split second.

The Demon’s hand was on his collar. The loud thud of his back slamming against the wooden wardrobe echoed through the whole room.

"You gonna tell me, or should I punch you in the gut?"

Her cold breaths were hitting his face.

"I-I.. t-tell..."

Without wasting a single second, all the ’smart’ guy inside Himanshu completely vanished into thin air.

"I.. m-me.. I.. "

The Demon tightened her grip on his collar. Slamming him hard against the wardrobe one more time, her voice hissed through her teeth.

"Guess you’re not gonna listen like this."

She raised her left hand in the air. Clenched her fist, and pulled her arm back with full force to deliver a punch.

Himanshu squeezed his eyes shut. He jerked his face to the side and blurted out in a single breath.

"I was just looking for your manga! I swear... just... just to read it!"

There was a sharp swoosh of the air slicing.

The Demon’s punch stopped just a hair away from Himanshu’s stomach, freezing right there in the air.

When no pain hit his stomach for a second or two, Himanshu slowly straightened his scrunched-up neck and opened one eye.

The Demon kept staring at his trembling body with those same narrowed eyes for a few moments.

When the expression on his face made it clear he was telling the truth, the Demon loosened her grip, let go of his collar after a moment, and turned around.

"Did you grab it?"

Steadying himself, Himanshu took a long breath.

"No... not yet."

"Grab it and get away from my wardrobe."

Himanshu stayed glued there for a moment.

He just kept looking at the Demon’s back. He couldn’t believe he actually survived without getting beaten up.

The Demon picked up the water bottle from the study table, and while opening the cap, she glared back at the wardrobe over her shoulder.

Without wasting any time, Himanshu quickly pulled the book out of the wardrobe and walked over to put it in his bag.

Just as he was pulling the zipper, the Demon’s voice came from behind again.

"Did you see anything else in there?"

Himanshu’s fingers stopped right on the zipper. He stared at the wall in front of him, trembling. A second later, trying to make his voice sound normal, he said.

"No... I didn’t see anything else."

The rustling sound of the bedsheet being spread again came from behind, along with the Demon’s words.

"Oh. I thought you saw something else. Because if you did, you’d be dead meat."

Swallowing the dry spit stuck in his throat, Himanshu tried to mix a little laugh into his stuttering words.

"Good thing I didn’t see anything then."

Right then, the sound of the bed being made stopped completely.

When no sound came for a moment, he turned his neck back. The Demon was frozen in her spot, just staring at him.

Flicking the bedsheet again, she spoke up.

"Whatever, you’ve already seen everything anyway. So what’s the big deal if you see it again."

Himanshu’s eyes went wide for a second. The skin around his ears suddenly started feeling a little hot.

Wait, what... was she talking about her bra and panties this whole time?

It took him a solid four to five seconds just to process that. He just kept looking at her making the bed without saying a word.

"What? Why are you looking at me like that?" the Demon asked while fixing the pillows.

But Himanshu wasn’t even fully there. He was just drowning in his overthinking about those knives.

Then the Demon narrowed her eyes again and said.

"What are you thinking about?"

That’s when it hit Himanshu that the Demon was getting the wrong idea.

Holding both his hands up in front of him, he said.

"No, no... I... I was just thinking about those new scars of yours."

The Demon paused for a second. Touching the scars on her wrist with her fingers, she said.

"Oh, these... I guess my magic powers are completely drained."

Getting a little worried for a second, Himanshu took a step forward and said.

"At this rate, your whole body’s gonna be covered in scars."

The Demon just kept looking at him, blinking. And then she rested her gaze back on her wrist.

"No, these are probably scars from before I got my powers."

"Got your powers..."

Himanshu’s lips just barely moved as he mumbled, but in the silence of the room, even that quiet voice reached the Demon’s ears.

"Yeah, our magic powers unlock after eight years."

Himanshu took a few small steps forward. With a little hesitation, he asked.

"So... are those chain marks?"

The Demon’s eyes drifted out the window.

"I don’t know when I got them or what caused them."

After pausing for a second, she spoke again, "I only found out about them myself when my powers completely ran out while fighting a Dragon."

Looking down for a second, Himanshu thought about it and asked.

"It’s not in the book either?"

Walking toward the window, the Demon said.

"No, my story in the book just starts from that accident at the Academy."

Looking away from her face for a second, Himanshu went back to fixing his bed.

A heavy silence spread across the room for four to five seconds. Breaking that silence, Himanshu tried to steer the topic back to the main issue—the very reason he had risked his life to pull that manga out in the first place.

"Did you figure out a way to get back?"

When no answer came from the other side for two or three seconds, Himanshu slowly turned his neck.

The Demon was still staring out the window at the blue sky.

"Even after reading it four times, I didn’t find anything."

After a slight pause, the Demon turned her neck a little. There was a bit of hesitation in her words now.

"Maybe... you should give it a try."

Himanshu’s brain completely short-circuited for a second. He just stared at the Demon’s face without blinking.

And right then, everything from that night suddenly flashed in his mind.

"No... no, sorry. I don’t want to get on... top of you again... I mean, I don’t want to do that."

The Demon squeezed her fists tight. Her neck snapped entirely toward Himanshu.

"You idiot, I’m telling you to top the book."

"O-Oh."

A awkward smile crept onto Himanshu’s lips. He cursed himself in his mind again.

Why do I always do things to get myself beaten up?

°°°°°°°

After breakfast, Himanshu reached school on his cycle.

Walking through the classroom corridor, his eyes were glued to his shoes. The voices of the kids passing by just felt like background noise. His mind was still looping over those big knives in the wardrobe, the Demon brutally ignoring him, and that terrifying dream from the morning.

Just then, a girl’s loud, excited voice hit his ears from the side.

She was showing something on her phone screen to another guy and saying.

"Look... look, that’s him."

Then the other guy’s voice came.

"Yeah man, I can’t even believe he’s actually here."

Thud.

Himanshu’s head crashed hard into some guy’s shoulder.

A strong, incredibly expensive perfume smell went straight through his nose and into his brain. It was like someone had bathed in a flower garden.

Rubbing his forehead, Himanshu took two steps back and lifted his face to look ahead.

The guy was wearing such fancy clothes that he looked like some celebrity. His hair was medium-long, left open, the kind that could easily be tied back.

The guy slowly turned toward Himanshu.

For a second, Himanshu just kept staring at him without blinking.

As good as his clothes and looks were, his face was far cleaner and more handsome.

A bell rang in his head... like he had seen him somewhere before.

"Sorry, my bad... I didn’t see you there."

Himanshu quickly lowered his head without any delay.

Right then, a hand gently rested on his shoulder.

Himanshu raised his eyes.

There was a completely different, massive, and radiant smile on the guy’s face. Almost as if he was way too happy today.

"Hey, no worries bro. Who says sorry over something this small?"

Saying that, he made his big smile even wider, as if dropping dialogues like this was his daily routine.

And right then, Himanshu remembered where he had seen him.

This... this is Vaibhav. The guy who just hit 1 million followers.

And then Himanshu’s gaze slipped down to Vaibhav’s other hand.

He was holding a red rose in it.

Ah... so that’s why he’s so happy today.

Then, with that same perfect smile, words came out of Vaibhav’s mouth.

"Hey, do you know which classroom Priya Rathore is in?"
