My Girlfriend Is a Demon Queen

Chapter 52: Priya was looking right back at him.

For a few moments, he just couldn’t figure out what to say.

His pupils slowly widened. His brain had completely stopped working. He stood there frozen in his spot like a statue for a moment.

He couldn’t understand why it felt so weird this time. There was this senseless restlessness building up inside him. This had happened so many times before. Who knows how many guys in the school had tried hovering around Priya. Then what was the reason that today, right now, just looking at this unknown guy made his feet feel like they were sinking into the ground?

"Hello... hey, do you know?"

Vaibhav reached his hand out and gently shook his shoulder.

Himanshu snapped out of that deep whirlpool of thoughts. He locked his wide, stuck eyes straight onto Vaibhav’s face. He was staring at him like someone who had just been pulled out of a deep shock.

"Umm..."

Just a faint, awkward sound slipped out of Himanshu’s dry throat.

"Where’d you zone out?"

Vaibhav squeezed his shoulder again and shook him a little. He had that same casual smile on his face. Himanshu quickly looked away.

Turning his face slightly to the side, swallowing the spit stuck in his throat, he reluctantly said a second later,

"I... I’m her classmate."

"Oh, that’s great then."

With that same relaxed and charming smile, Vaibhav took his hand off his shoulder and turned forward.

Taking a firm step on the ground, without looking back, he just said,

"Let’s go then, bro."

No voice came from behind. Himanshu’s feet were glued to the floor. Without even realizing it, he had gripped his school bag’s strap so tightly in his fist that his knuckles were turning white. He didn’t know why, but his breathing was starting to feel a little fast and heavy.

Without taking a single step forward, he blurted out in a panicked, trembling voice.

"Are... are you going to..." he paused for a second, "are you going to propose to her?"

Vaibhav, who was already four or five steps ahead, suddenly stopped in his tracks.

He turned back around. He looked at Himanshu, winked at him, threw up a ’thumbs up’, and with a huge, confident smile, said,

"Spot on. I’m going to give her a surprise today."

Saying that, Vaibhav turned back around and kept walking in his own vibe.

That smile of his... the one that could calm anyone’s mind just a while ago, was now slowly brewing a restless panic inside Himanshu. And along with that panic, a fear... a weird kind of fear that he had never felt before in his entire life. A hollow feeling hit the bottom of his stomach, like someone was about to snatch away his most precious thing forever.

Whatever... why am I overthinking this so much? She’s rejected so many guys just like him.

Taking a deep breath, he tried to comfort himself. His eyes were glued to Vaibhav’s back as he walked ahead.

He’s just... another one of them.

Yeah, just one of them.

But with every single step he took forward, his choking breaths and his heartbeat hammering against his chest... none of it calmed down despite what he told himself. It was only getting faster, slipping further out of his control.

And right then, his gaze shifted to the boys and girls standing around in the corridor.

A totally different kind of madness was going on there. Kids were pushing each other just to get a selfie with Vaibhav. Seeing this, that hollow confidence Himanshu was trying to build with fake comforts was slowly crumbling. It was breaking. His feet stopped dead on the floor again. He glared at Vaibhav’s back once more and said a bit loudly to the walking Vaibhav,

"She has rejected everyone."

Vaibhav didn’t slow his pace at all. Without looking back, he replied in a very casual, normal tone while walking,

"Yeah, I know. She told me."

Hearing that, something fragile shattered inside Himanshu.

That senseless fear of his was now turning into a brutal reality. His legs felt heavy, like someone had poured lead into his shoes.

Now there were only a few steps left to reach the classroom.

Vaibhav turned around and asked Himanshu for the third time,

"Do we need to go further ahead?"

Without saying a word, Himanshu just nodded and started following him like a defeated machine.

Just two or three steps away from the classroom door, Himanshu couldn’t hold back anymore. To stop Vaibhav, he shrugged his shoulders and said.

"Dhruv... Dhruv doesn’t let anyone get close to her."

Vaibhav’s footsteps stopped right outside the door. He stood quietly for a few moments, then looked at Himanshu and gave a faint smile.

"Bro, I’ll handle Dhruv. He’s my subscriber."

He adjusted his shirt collar a little and added,

"And anyway, I have a lot of fans in this school."

Vaibhav flashed a slight, winning smile. He put his hand on the door handle, hid the hand with the rose behind his back, and without turning around, told Himanshu,

"Thanks for the help."

And in one go, he pulled the classroom door open.

The usual noise and yelling going on inside... the second the door opened, those voices were cut off as if someone had pulled the plug on a TV. A pin-drop silence swept over the whole class in an instant.

Standing in the corridor, Himanshu was just watching Vaibhav’s face. The moment the door opened and he looked inside, a completely different glow appeared on Vaibhav’s face. That smile wasn’t just on his lips anymore; it had reached his eyes, a smile he hadn’t given to anyone else so far. Himanshu clenched both his fists, lowered his neck, and walked toward the gate with heavy steps.

Just from Vaibhav’s glowing face, he had already figured out that Priya, sitting inside, was happy to see him.

Standing right next to Vaibhav, Himanshu slowly raised his eyes.

The scene inside the class was even weirder than the corridor outside. Every student’s eyes were wide open in shock. A distinct blush was visible on the girls’ faces, like a dream had just come true. And the guys had this stunned smile on their faces, wondering what the hell an internet star was doing in their class.

But Himanshu’s breath hitched in his throat, almost turning into a sob the moment his eyes landed on Priya.

He saw a face on Priya that he had probably never seen in all these years. That expression, that happiness... it was completely foreign. Looking at her face, it felt like someone extremely close, someone of her own, a very special person had just suddenly appeared right in front of her.

Priya’s eyes weren’t on anyone else in the class; they were locked straight onto Vaibhav.

Himanshu was standing on the side. He couldn’t look at Priya’s glowing face for more than a second. A weird sting started pricking his eyes. He quickly looked away, acting as if he were some stranger peeking into someone else’s personal life.

Slowly, keeping both his hands behind his back, Vaibhav started walking right through the middle of the class toward Priya with that same perfect smile. The soft tapping of his shoes echoed through the silence.

Priya slowly stood up from her seat. There was a soft smile on her face, and her lips parted, almost as if she was saying his name without making a sound.

Himanshu didn’t even move from his spot. Looking down at the floor on the side, he kept twisting his bag strap even tighter with one hand.

Vaibhav reached Priya’s table. Leaning forward just a bit, looking right into her eyes, he said,

"So, how did you like my surprise?"

The moment he said that, the silence in the class broke. All the students started looking at each other’s faces. Someone covered their mouth, someone else looked stunned, and loud whispers broke out across the classroom.

"Vaibhav... you’re here..."

That soft, completely unfamiliar voice slipped out of Priya’s mouth. A tone Himanshu had never heard before in his life. That voice forced Himanshu to jerk his head up and look.

That one single line made everything crystal clear for Himanshu.

And right then... Vaibhav dropped one knee to the floor. Holding eye contact with Priya, he said,

"I want to tell you something."

Hearing this, Himanshu’s eyes glued themselves to Priya’s hands, which were tightly gripping the edge of the table and her skirt. He had never seen her like this before.

I don’t care... I don’t care about this... Loser, she deserves someone like him anyway... can’t you get something this simple through your thick skull?

Himanshu’s brain was screaming at himself. He was trying to control his choking breaths, which were slowly turning into a crying state, using his own bitter thoughts. Himanshu bit his lip so hard between his teeth that the taste of blood started mixing in his mouth. He was trying to push his tears back, but his eyelids were starting to feel heavy.

Vaibhav slowly pulled out the red rose he had been hiding behind his back and held it out in front of Priya.

"I didn’t even realize when you became so important in my life. That’s why... I want to be in a relationship with you."

A suffocating, heavy silence blanketed the entire classroom.

Every single student’s eyes were locked onto Priya.

When no answer came for a few moments, Himanshu slowly raised his trembling eyes.

And then... his eyes clashed with Priya’s. Priya was looking right back at him.
