After Ryan overwhelmingly defeated the Abyssal general and the two Infernals, silence descended upon that small part of the plaza.

The dark blood of the fallen demons stained the white snow, slowly melting due to the residual heat from their magical attacks.

After confirming that he had gained an absurd amount of experience and new levels in the system, Ryan shook the blade of his sword to clean it and calmly put it away.

He approached with slow, heavy steps toward where the little demon girl was on the snow. Ryan fully intended to interrogate her quickly and ask how long she had been held prisoner up there in the tower.

As he walked straight toward her, the little girl tried to scoot backward, crawling away; panic was evident in her large violet eyes, and her breathing became completely erratic.

But, almost immediately, it seemed her childish mind remembered the cold, lethal order Ryan had given her just a few minutes prior in that very spot.

She stopped her escape dead in her tracks, swallowed hard, and did not move another muscle, trembling from head to toe as she watched him approach.

"I will not hurt you," Ryan said in a slightly softer voice, trying to calm the girl’s obvious terror as he advanced. "But if you try to run and escape my sight, I will quickly change my mind."

The little demon looked at him with utter distrust, clenching her small hands on the snow.

"B-but... what do you want from me exactly..." she murmured with a cracked voice full of fear. "Do you also intend to hand me over to the church?"

’So after all, that was the demon king Rigal’s true plan. Looking at this scared brat like this, she really does not seem like much in terms of combat power. But if she is so important to all of them that they kept her hidden here... there must be something else. Whatever. I will think about that later, when we are done with this battle.’

Ryan thought. But suddenly, a strange, abrupt silence manifested in the distance, coming from the exact direction of the demon king’s castle. The roar of magical explosions and physical clashes that shook the earth had vanished completely in the blink of an eye.

Ryan froze in place, turning his face and staring in the direction of the castle rising on the snowy horizon.

’Is the demon kings’ combat already over so soon...?’ Ryan wondered, with genuine surprise shining in his green eyes.

’I feel a completely overwhelming magical energy radiating from that place right now, but at this distance I cannot accurately determine if it belongs to Ophelia or Rigal...’

Faced with the crushing uncertainty of not knowing who had won the rulers’ duel, Ryan looked at the demon girl beside him, quickly crouched down, and lifted her off the ground with a single arm.

"Listen to me carefully, I do not intend to hand you over to the church or anyone else," Ryan clarified in a highly strict and rushed tone of voice. "But I also do not intend to be tolerant if you cause me trouble right now."

’I will leave this little demon under the watch of some of my soldiers right now,’ Ryan decided in his mind, readying his legs to run at full speed.

’And I will immediately head to the central castle to check the situation with my own eyes. I do not think Ophelia lost, after all, she was very confident, even so...’

...

While Ryan solved that sudden tactical matter in the eastern zone, in different places within the demon king’s territory, the battle raged on without any respite.

Right now, at the very foot of Kowarre’s castle’s western tower.

Beatrice, Karol, Mirian, and Alicia were forming a defensive line, breathing very heavily.

All of them wore their brand new white combat clothes completely worn out, dirty with mud, and with clear bleeding wounds on their arms and legs.

Right in front of them, roaring with uncontrollable fury, stood a massive, monstrous beast.

The feared earth dragon.

The colossal creature, completely covered in thick, impenetrable plates of sharp rock, flexed its immense hind legs and leaped into the air with a terrifying agility for its massive size.

The enormous monster’s shadow completely covered the girls.

And with a coordinated movement born of pure instinct, they all jumped in different directions and dodged the lethal attack of rock spikes that shot up from below, destroying the ground where they were standing a second ago.

"Ivis told us with absolute certainty that this was the weakest dragon of all," Karol complained loudly, leaning on her magical staff as she wiped a trickle of blood from her forehead.

"That was a very bad joke on her part," Beatrice said with an expression of absolute annoyance, holding the threads of her epic weapons extending from her wrists.

"Yes, it is no joke," Alicia commented, shaking the dust from her silver hair. "Even attacking all four at the same time and without rest, we have not managed to deal any real damage to its body."

"By constantly covering itself with those damn magical rocks, we cannot do absolutely anything to it with our weapons," Mirian analyzed, drawing her bowstring with frustration. "Maybe on its own its physical body is not that strong or fast, but that absolute defense is far too annoying to break."

The massive earth dragon turned its heavy rock-covered neck and looked at them with its bright yellow eyes, letting out a deep growl that shook the ground beneath their feet.

"Two humans, one demon, and one demi-human," Mira, the earth dragon, spoke with a raspy voice as deep as two mountains crashing. "What a bad and useless decision you made in coming to attack us in our own home."

In the distance, behind the dragon’s position, the chaos of the lesser war continued its course.

Irina, the elven princess, alongside the other elven soldiers from the villa, fought relentlessly, firing barrages of magical arrows against the other demons of the fortress.

There were also many demi-humans from Ryan’s army on that same battlefront. But they no longer looked like simple warriors with animal ears.

They were completely transformed. They had taken on a bestial form that made them look like enormous giant wolves, but walking on two feet, sporting massive backs, defined muscles, and huge sharp claws that tore apart the enemy demons’ armor.

Seeing that time was working against them and the dragon was preparing for another massive attack, the group’s mage took the initiative.

"Listen everyone, we must attack with all our strength at a single point if we truly plan on beating this thing," Karol commented, raising her staff with determination. "I have a good plan in mind to break its armor."

Karol looked at her three teammates with utmost seriousness. "But for this to work, you cannot hold any energy back, you must give it your all," she added.

"Hold energy back at this moment?" Mirian replied, letting out a nervous laugh. "I have been attacking it with everything I have since this damn fight started."

Beatrice nodded in complete silence, confirming that she too was pushing her body to the limits of its agility.

Alicia said nothing, she simply clenched her fists very tightly in front of her chest, looking clearly frustrated by her lack of damage in the fight.

"Alicia, listen to me carefully, you must also transform right now," Karol suggested directly, pointing at the massive beastmen fighting in the distance. "All that immense brute strength that those of your race acquire in that giant beast form will be of great help to us to crack the dragon’s rocks."

"That is very true," Mirian intervened, lowering her bow for a second and looking at the wolf girl with genuine doubt. "So far in all this time you have not done it even once in combat, or could it be that you cannot do it for some reason?"

"No, it is not that..." Alicia murmured, averting her gaze to the snowy ground with a clear expression of embarrassment on her face. "It is just that... normally I did not like at all to be seen in that monstrous form, it ruins my image, so I always avoided it..."

"Stop with the jokes and useless excuses, Alicia," Beatrice grumbled immediately, cutting through her companion’s shyness with an extremely strict and cold tone. "This is definitely not the right time to think about those physical appearance nonsense when we are about to die at the hands of that thing."

"I already know that perfectly well..." Alicia said, squeezing her eyes shut and accepting her important role in the plan. "But you must know that my physical transformation is something... very different from the others..."

"Ha ha ha," the dragon growled with a malice-filled laugh. "It will make no difference if that little animal turns into a smelly dog."

"Smelly dog?" Alicia murmured, clenching her fists, she stood firm on the stained snow and took a huge breath of cold air, preparing to release the savage instinct she had repressed for so long.
