My Husband Is An International Idol

Chapter 116: Searching At The Wrong Place

The investigation had stretched across Germany, France, Italy, Austria, and Switzerland.

Thousands of police officers and hundreds of investigators were involved. Millions of people followed every update.

Yet, they had been looking in the wrong country.

Silence filled the command center after Joey Luther’s confession. No one spoke. Everyone replayed the same sentence inside their minds.

"He doesn’t think he kidnapped her. He believes... he brought her home."

Victor slowly stood from his chair.

His eyes widened.

"...Home."

Sarah looked at him.

"What is it?"

Victor walked toward the giant map hanging on the wall.

For the past three days, dozens of red pins had covered Germany. Every possible hiding place had already been searched.

Victor slowly removed one of the pins. Then another.

Finally, he picked up a marker.

"Joey."

He looked toward him.

"When Harry talks about home, what exactly does he mean?"

Joey answered without hesitation.

"He never called Germany home. He hated Europe. He always talked about..."

He paused.

"A park. A flower garden. A two-storey house. I remembered him describing an old house. He said Liliana used to live there.

"The Sterling’s ancestral house." Victor whispered. "...Sterling Village."

The room instantly became silent.

Matthew slowly stood.

"...No."

Victor looked at him.

"Think about it."

Matthew’s expression changed.

Victor continued.

"We’ve all assumed Harry remained in Germany."

"Why?"

"Because Liliana disappeared here."

Sarah slowly understood.

"But Harry doesn’t think like us."

Victor nodded.

"He isn’t running. He isn’t hiding. In his mind, he rescued her. And where would someone take the person they believe belongs with them?"

No one answered.

Victor finally said it aloud.

"Home. He wanted to bring her home from the very beginning. It was his plan."

Chris suddenly remembered something.

Harry’s diary.

Victor immediately opened it. Page after page described Sterling Village.

The old chapel.

The river.

Grandmother Lucia’s house.

The road leading to Liliana’s childhood home.

Even the old mango tree where she used to read books.

Harry had memorized every detail.

Sarah quickly flipped through another section.

"There."

She pointed toward a paragraph.

Someday...

We’ll both go home.

Away from everyone.

No Chris.

No cameras.

Just Lily and me.

Victor slowly closed the diary.

"We’ve been searching for a criminal."

"But Harry..."

"...thinks he’s beginning a new life with Liliana."

Matthew’s face turned pale.

"Sterling Village."

Amanda gasped softly.

"He’ll take her where everything started."

Chris immediately grabbed his phone.

"Call Grandmother."

The call connected after only two rings.

"Chris?"

Grandmother Lucia’s gentle voice answered.

"Grandma!"

Chris almost shouted.

"Is everything alright there?"

Lucia sounded confused.

"I don’t know how to answer that. But why?"

"Has anyone suspicious been seen around the village?"

She thought for a moment.

"No. Is this related to Lily? Did you find her?"

"I think so. But first, I need you to think if you find anything suspicious for the past three day."

She hesitated. But then...

"Actually..."

Chris immediately straightened.

"What?"

"The old Finn house."

Victor and Sarah looked at each other.

Lucia continued.

"I’ve noticed lights there twice this week. I thought someone finally bought the place."

The entire room froze.

"Are you certain, Grandma?" He asked.

"Yes." There was no hesitation in Grandma Lucia’s voice.

Victor whispered,

"The abandoned house..."

Sarah’s heart sank.

"We searched it..."

Victor nodded.

"But only the first floor."

He immediately remembered something.

Harry’s bedroom had fresh sheets and fresh bottled water. Someone had clearly been living there.

Yet, they had left after finding the diary. None of them searched beyond the obvious.

Victor suddenly slapped the table.

"Damn it!"

Robin looked up.

"What?"

"We searched the house. But we searched it like investigators."

Sarah understood immediately.

"We never searched it like someone hiding another person."

Chris felt his breathing become uneven.

"If Lily..."

His voice shook.

"...is there..."

Matthew immediately looked toward Victor.

"How long?"

Victor answered honestly.

"A direct flight back to Aurelia is twelve hours. Then another three hours by land."

Chris clenched his fists.

"Too long."

Sarah suddenly interrupted.

"What if..."

Everyone turned toward her.

"What if Harry never left through normal immigration?"

Silence.

She continued.

"He prepared this for years. He could’ve used a private boat, a forged passport, or cargo transport. Anything."

Victor nodded.

"Interpol."

He immediately called the German authorities.

"We need exit records checked again. Every port. Every private airport. Every cargo vessel. No assumptions this time."

Meanwhile, thousands of kilometers away, Sterling Village remained peaceful.

Children played beside the basketball court. Farmers harvested rice beneath the afternoon sun.

The old Finn house stood quietly at the edge of the village. Its curtains remained closed. Its gate remained locked.

Nothing seemed unusual.

No one noticed, that beneath the old wooden floor of Harry’s bedroom...

A hidden staircase descended into darkness.

Back in Germany, Chris had already packed his bag.

River stopped him.

"Where are you going?"

"To Aurelia. To Lily."

Robin frowned.

"We don’t even know for sure."

Chris looked at everyone. His exhausted eyes now carried determination instead of despair.

"I’ve spent three days waiting. I can’t wait anymore." If there’s even the smallest chance she’s there..."

His voice became firm.

"I’m going."

Matthew slowly nodded.

"I’ll arrange the private jet."

Nathan immediately stood.

"I’m coming."

"So am I," Nicolo said without hesitation.

Rose wiped away her tears.

"Us too."

Nicole nodded.

"We’re family."

Emily looked toward Mary.

"We’re going home."

Mary smiled sadly.

"To bring Lily home."

Within minutes, everyone had made the same decision.

No one wanted to stay behind.

As preparations began, Victor quietly stared once more at Harry Finn’s diary.

One sentence caught his attention. Written in shaky handwriting near the end of the final page.

Home is where Lily has always belonged.

Victor slowly closed the diary.

"No..."

He whispered.

"You’ve mistaken obsession for love."

Outside, the engines of the St. Claire family’s private jet were already beginning to roar to life.

The investigation finally had a direction since the day Liliana disappeared.

Unfortunately, Harry Finn had almost three days’ head start.

And if Victor’s instincts were correct, the rescue would not begin in Europe.

It would begin, back where the entire story started.

Sterling Village.
