Paris was unusually quiet after midnight.

The streets that had been alive with music and flashing cameras slowly settled into a peaceful silence as the city lights reflected across the Seine. For most people, the charity gala had become another unforgettable evening. For Chris and Liliana, however, the night had quietly created the first misunderstanding neither of them saw coming.

Nearly an hour after leaving the palace, the presidential convoy stopped in front of the luxury hotel reserved for the St. Claire delegation.

Alexandre stepped out first before opening the car door for Liliana.

"I hope you enjoyed seeing Paris."

Liliana smiled gratefully.

"I did."

"Thank you for showing me around."

Alexandre returned her smile.

"It was my pleasure."

He bowed politely before stepping aside.

"I hope France leaves you with many wonderful memories."

Liliana nodded.

"I’m sure it will."

She entered the hotel, unaware that several cameras hidden across the street had captured every moment of Alexandre opening the car door for her.

From a distance, it looked almost romantic. But the truth was far more ordinary.

Inside the hotel lobby, Emily and Nathan immediately stood when they saw Liliana.

Emily hurried toward her.

"There you are!"

"We’ve been worried."

Liliana apologized softly.

"I’m sorry."

"The President’s son insisted on showing me around Paris."

Emily blinked.

"...What?"

Liliana quickly explained everything.

"The President approved it."

"There were security officers with us the entire time."

Nathan let out a relieved sigh.

"So that’s where you disappeared."

Emily looked around. "Where’s Chris?"

Liliana smiled faintly. "I thought he was already back."

The three exchanged confused glances.

Mary walked over from the reception desk.

"He hasn’t arrived."

Liliana frowned.

"...Not yet?"

Mary shook her head.

"Matthew is still attending private meetings."

"No one from that group has returned."

Only then did Liliana remember.

"My phone."

She opened her evening clutch.

The screen remained completely black.

"The battery died."

She borrowed Emily’s charger and hurried upstairs.

Inside her suite, Liliana immediately plugged her phone into the charger.

A few moments later, the screen finally lit up.

Dozens of unread notifications appeared.

Among them...

One message from Chris.

Lily, I have to attend a private reception with Dad. It’s important for the company. Go back to the hotel with Emily and Nathan first. I’ll return later. Don’t wait up.

Liliana smiled sadly.

"So that’s what happened..."

She typed a quick reply.

I just saw your message. My phone died. I already arrived safely. Good night.

She pressed send.

The message remained unread.

Chris was still busy.

Liliana placed her phone on the bedside table before changing into comfortable clothes.

She tried reading.

She tried watching television.

She even stood by the window overlooking the glittering skyline of Paris.

Nothing worked.

The strange uneasiness she had felt since the gala refused to disappear.

She kept remembering Ruby Grey standing beside Chris.

The way they walked away together.

The way he accepted Ruby’s invitation without hesitation.

Liliana closed her eyes.

"It’s only work."

She whispered the words to herself several times.

Yet her heart remained restless.

Hours passed.

Chris still hadn’t returned.

Eventually, exhaustion forced her to lie down.

Sleep, however, never truly came.

Morning sunlight poured through the curtains.

Paris welcomed another beautiful day.

Inside the hotel restaurant, everyone gathered for breakfast before beginning their packed schedule of rehearsals, meetings, and campaign preparations.

Nicole happily admired the pastries.

"I could live here."

Rose laughed.

"You’ve only been in France for one day."

Emily sipped her coffee.

"Give her another week."

Laughter spread around the table.

For a brief moment...

Everything felt normal.

Then...

Nathan’s phone suddenly vibrated repeatedly.

He frowned.

"...That’s strange."

Robin looked up.

"What is it?"

Nathan’s expression slowly changed.

"You guys..."

"I think we have a problem."

Everyone instinctively reached for their phones.

Within seconds...

The internet exploded.

Entertainment websites around the world released exclusive photographs taken only hours earlier.

The first headline appeared.

PRESIDENT’S SON SPENDS PRIVATE NIGHT TOUR WITH INTERNATIONAL MODEL LILIANA STERLING.

Several photographs accompanied the article.

Alexandre opening the limousine door.

The two walking along the Seine.

Both smiling while admiring the Eiffel Tower.

Finally...

Alexandre escorting Liliana into the hotel.

Without the presidential security visible in several cropped images...

The photographs told an entirely different story.

Emily immediately stood.

"This isn’t good."

Before anyone could respond...

Another notification appeared.

This one was even worse.

CHRIS ST. CLAIRE LEAVES PALACE WITH DESIGNER RUBY GREY.

More photographs followed.

Chris and Ruby walking side by side after the gala.

Ruby smiling warmly.

Chris gently supporting her arm while helping her step onto the hotel entrance stairs after she stumbled in her heels.

The final image showed both of them entering the same luxury hotel.

The article ended with one sentence.

Sources confirm that Chris St. Claire did not return to the hotel where the St. Claire delegation was staying last night.

Silence filled the breakfast table.

Liliana stared at the screen.

Chris hadn’t slept here?

Her fingers unconsciously tightened around the phone.

Across from her, Nathan quickly read the full article.

"They’re twisting everything."

"It says he stayed at another hotel."

Emily frowned.

"He probably attended business meetings until morning."

Robin nodded immediately.

"I know Matthew."

"If he was negotiating with investors, they could’ve continued all night."

Mary added,

"And Ruby’s father was there."

"It was most likely related to Grey Atelier."

Even with their explanations, the photographs looked convincing.

Too convincing.

Meanwhile, across Paris, Chris had just finished breakfast with Matthew and several European investors when his own phone began vibrating nonstop.

Leo looked at him.

"You’re trending."

Chris opened the first article.

His smile disappeared.

The first image showed Liliana standing beside Alexandre beneath the glowing lights of the Eiffel Tower.

Another showed Alexandre opening the limousine door for her.

Then, one more photograph. Alexandre accompanying Liliana into the hotel.

Chris’s chest tightened.

He knew Liliana. He trusted her completely.

Yet, seeing another man beside his wife stirred emotions he had never experienced before.

At almost the same moment, Liliana quietly looked down at the photographs of Chris and Ruby entering another hotel together.

She trusted Chris with all her heart.

But trust did not stop the pain caused by appearances.

Separated by only a few kilometers...

Husband and wife stared silently at different photographs.

Each believed the other had done nothing wrong.

Yet each felt the same unfamiliar ache growing inside their heart.

Neither realized that the greatest enemy threatening their marriage was no longer Carl De Vera.

It was a misunderstanding carefully built from separate photographs and a truth neither of them had the chance to explain.
