My Kingdom Building Done Right!

Chapter 303: The Matchmaker Of Love

"I’m glad you’re finally awake," Leone said to Jason, who had just woken up a few minutes ago.

Two days had passed since the end of the monster stampede. Eyewitnesses claimed that Jason had fought against the Ogre Warlord, only to be defeated to near death.

Ivan, the commander of the Darkmane Tribe, had arrived just in time to distract the monster from landing the killing blow.

Thanks to him, Jason survived.

Well, "barely" survived.

According to Daedalus, his life would’ve been lost if it weren’t for Tianna stepping up to cure him.

The grimoire only knew of this because the incident took place when it had come to Astravor’s side. Jason was not too far from them, so the grimoire saw everything.

It even saw past the barrier Tianna set up and the wings she covered themselves with.

"Great Chieftain..." Jason propped himself up into a sitting position. A moment later, a look of surprise flashed across his face.

He oddly felt no pain, nor could he sense a single trace of injury on his body.

"Do you remember anything?" Leone asked calmly.

"I-I remember fighting against the Ogre Warlord." Jason tried to recall his latest bit of memory the best he could. "But after I got hit by its attack, I lost consciousness."

"I see..." Leone nodded in understanding. "So you don’t know who saved you, do you?"

"No." Jason shook his head. "Do you know who it is, Leone?"

"No." Leone lied without batting an eye. "But once I discover their identity, I plan to reward them for saving the life of one of my vassals."

Excluding Leone and his grimoire, the only ones who knew Jason’s savior were Godwin, Ragnar, and Wayne.

When the barrier receded and Tianna unfurled her feathers, they saw the young man who was lying unconscious on the ground.

When Godwin asked his daughter why she had saved Jason, her answer was this.

"He is the right-hand man of the Aslan Tribe," Tianna replied. "If we save him, they will owe us a debt of gratitude we can leverage in the future."

As per Tianna’s words, it was a good political move... And things would’ve gone exactly as she said if the grimoire hadn’t seen past the barrier.

Tianna hadn’t saved Jason because she wanted the Aslan Tribe to owe the Warclaw Tribe a favor.

Instead, she simply couldn’t let him die. He was too dear to her.

’I guess I’ll start playing matchmaker now,’ Leone thought.

’That might be a bit difficult,’ Daedalus replied through telepathy. ’Godwin was planning to marry off Tianna to you, so they could form strong ties with the Aslan Tribe.’

’Relax. I got this.’ Leone smiled faintly in return. ’They didn’t call me the Ultimate Matchmaker back in the Kingdom of Britannia for nothing.’

’...For an Ultimate Matchmaker, shouldn’t you be worrying about your own love life first?’ Daedalus scoffed at those words.

Leone almost choked on his own saliva after hearing the grimoire’s jab.

Still, he kept his face calm since Jason’s eyes were still on him.

"I’ll brief you on what happened while you were unconscious," Leone said in order to change the topic.

Jason immediately became serious as he listened to what his Great Chieftain had to say.

When Leone finished recalling his tale, the young man couldn’t help but sigh in relief.

"So we won the war." Jason momentarily closed his eyes. "I’m glad we managed to survive. When I got hit by the Ogre Warlord, all I felt was regret. I’ve been careless. And I knew it.

"If I had been more careful, the Ogre Warlord wouldn’t have knocked me out. I only survived out of pure luck."

"No." Leone shook his head. "You survived through the power of love."

Jason blinked. "What?"

"Nothing." Leone brushed off his slip of the tongue with a shrug. "I know you just woke up. But when you start to feel better, please help with the tasks inside the fortress. Everyone is still currently busy dismantling the monster corpses.

"The meat will be used as provisions for their return trips, while the monster parts will be used to forge items. You can look for Kael, and he will assign tasks to you."

The young man then stood up to pat his vassal’s shoulder twice before walking toward the door.

Though, before Leone truly left, he looked at Jason one last time.

"I’m glad you survived, Jason," Leone said in a serious tone. "Please be more careful in the future."

"Yes, Great Chieftain!" Jason pressed his hand over his chest and bowed respectfully.

After leaving the house, Leone headed outside of the fortress to look for Tianna, who had once again disguised herself.

After all, she was the oracle of the Warclaw Tribe. She must not let others know her true identity.

However, when Leone knocked on the door of the villa where she resided, the young lady opened the door and invited him in without asking why he had come to see her.

"Before anything else, I would like to thank you for saving my vassal," Leone said as soon as he sat down. "I’d like to repay your grace. Is there something that you want from me?"

"Yes," Tianna replied. "I want you to be very careful when you head to Eden for the Tribal Gathering. I am afraid the Chieftain of the Grimhowl Tribe will do you harm. You are very vulnerable outside your territory."

Leone was a little taken aback by Tianna’s request.

He originally planned on teasing her by telling her that the favor she granted them was too much, and the Aslan Tribe could only balance things out by marrying her to Jason, who would repay her with his body.

Although taken aback by her genuine advice, Leone took her seriously.

Daedalus had also warned him of the faint killing intent he had sensed from Hagen during the battle.

Killing intent was common on the battlefield, and it wouldn’t have raised concerns had it been aimed at the monsters.

But Hagen’s killing intent had been aimed at the unconscious Leone. At some point, Hagen must’ve deemed that the chaos on the battlefield would serve as the perfect smokescreen to eliminate Leone.

Fortunately, he didn’t go ahead with this plan.

There were simply too many variables. If he made a move and failed, the Grimhowl Tribe would be put in a difficult situation.

"I understand." Leone nodded. "I’ll do my best to ensure that I won’t get killed on my journey to the Tribal Gathering."

The young man paused for a bit before asking Tianna a personal question.

"I believe that you are the Earth Mother’s oracle, right?" Leone asked.

"Yes," Tianna replied. "Since you’re asking me a question, let me ask you a question of my own. You already know my real identity, right?"

"Yes," Leone answered.

"When did you find out?" Tianna inquired.

"From the moment you and your father arrived in my domain," Leone replied.

She then gave the young chieftain a long and hard stare before closing her eyes.

"I have a request," Tianna said calmly. "I am unable to use my powers at the moment because I used them to save Jason. In short, I am currently in my most vulnerable state. If possible, I would like to stay here in the Aslan Tribe until you and your men head to the Tribal Gathering."

"Wouldn’t you be safer if you returned to the Warclaw Tribe?" Leone asked back in a teasing tone. He didn’t mind if Tianna stayed behind and lived in the villa for a while.

However, the problem was whether Godwin would approve of it or not. After all, Tianna was an important asset to the Warclaw Tribe, and leaving her in another tribe’s territory was a very risky move.

"What you say is true," Tianna admitted. "But living here is more comfortable than back home."

Leone smirked after hearing her reply. Although Tianna was older than him by a year, in his eyes, she was like a little sister who was just starting to understand what the meaning of love was.

As the Ultimate Matchmaker, how could he possibly let this opportunity slip?

"I don’t know what you’re thinking, but for some reason, I don’t like it." Tianna pouted.

"I’m thinking of tying Jason up with a ribbon and sending him here to you as a gift," Leone said while doing his best not to smile. "Do you not like it?"

"Get out." Tianna glared.

Leone knew that it was time that he made a strategic retreat, so he left without looking back.

Though when Tianna finally closed the door, her cheeks turned beet red.

She wasn’t really angry at Leone.

If anything, Tianna was angry at herself because she almost said "Yes!" to his proposal.

A moment later, she silently cursed the hateful young man... who seemed to have seen through the depths of her heart.
