My Kingdom Building Done Right!
Chapter 338: Finders Versus Keepers [Part 1]After offering a prayer to the Goddess and asking for permission to enter the temple, Leone soon led everyone inside.
In one of the rooms, one that looked like it was meant for praying, a magic circle was etched on the wall.
"Daedalus, is this magic circle still working?" Leone asked. "Won’t we get stuck somewhere dangerous?"
"Surprisingly, it is still working," Daedalus confirmed. "Whoever made this really knows what they are doing. It’s a teleportation circle that allows for two-way travel."
"Then, do you know where it connects to, Daedalus?" Yuni asked out of curiosity.
"Unfortunately, no," Daedalus replied. "How about you, Leone? Do you know where this leads?"
"A place located farther north," Leone answered. "Past the Kingdom of Britannia."
"Past the Kingdom of Britannia... doesn’t that sound like the Radiant Empire?" Daedalus hovered right beside the magic circle in response, scrutinizing it a little closer. "Is it somewhere around those parts?"
Leone had already considered that the magic circle might lead them to the Radiant Empire. Though the reason he hadn’t said the name out loud was that he didn’t want to go there!
His mother once told him and his siblings that she hailed from the Radiant Empire. However, after she married Leone’s father, her family began giving her the cold shoulder.
Fortunately, her grandfather doted on her very much. Because of that, he still supported her even though she defied her parents’ will.
Perhaps after the years had passed, her parents had also started to accept her decision to marry someone from the Kingdom of Britannia.
Of course, Hassan didn’t want to divulge the family affairs of Leone’s mother. With that, he simply told him that although they were far apart, they still "cared" for her in their own way.
"All of you, stand beside Leone," Daedalus ordered. "I will now activate the teleportation circle."
Yuni held Leone’s hand, while Brann and Otto touched his shoulders.
Since Arion, Boris, and the Sky Drake were still outside the temple, keeping guard, they were the only ones who would travel to wherever the teleportation circle would take them.
When the magic circle activated, the entire room was immediately bathed in bright light. Leone and his companions suddenly felt lightheaded as the floor underneath them disappeared.
A moment later, they felt the sensation of falling from a great height.
When Leone returned to his senses, he found himself lying face up.
"Ugh..." Leone’s face scrunched up. "I don’t feel so good."
At the moment, he was feeling nauseous, but not enough to puke his guts out.
After some time, Leone tried to prop himself up, only to then feel whatever he used to support his hand suddenly shift, making him slide sideways.
Soon, the tinkling sound of coins reverberated in the surroundings as Leone rolled over a hill of gold coins.
When he finally came to a stop, a wicked grin appeared on his face.
Although he was still suffering from the aftereffects of the long-distance teleportation, a wide smile appeared on his face.
"Hahaha!" Leone shouted as he grabbed a handful of gold coins. "I’m rich!"
All around him were gold and precious gems. He had often heard stories of dragons hoarding treasures, but he didn’t really believe in it.
So he was wrong! And very happy to be wrong.
Yuni, Brann, and Otto also couldn’t believe what they were seeing.
Gold.
So much gold!
"T-This..." Otto’s eyes widened in shock.
While barbarians also used gold as currency, they didn’t have a lot of it. Only the high-ranking tribes managed to save up gold from trading with the Aurelion Empire to the south of the Borderlands.
A few minutes later, Leone finally regained his composure.
He looked at his surroundings, only to then begin checking if there were any other items inside the cavern aside from gold and precious stones.
However, it didn’t take long for him to notice that there were also other things like weapons, armors, and other artifacts he had no idea how to use and what for.
Fortunately, Daedalus was there to appraise all of them, giving its Master a brief rundown of the things that were now theirs for the taking.
In the meantime, while Leone’s group was assessing the treasures that belonged to Lord Azar, a middle-aged man suddenly opened his eyes.
"Someone has entered the treasure vault!" The middle-aged man gasped in shock before storming out of his office.
Seeing the crazed look in his eyes, the butler who was about to deliver lunch to his Master immediately stopped in his tracks.
"Your Grace, did something happen?" the butler asked in a serious tone.
"Jeeves, someone entered the treasure vault!" Andreas Von Helion, the Duke of House Helion, exclaimed. "Call the guards and tell them to arm themselves to the teeth. It’s been a while since we’ve had thieves brave enough to try to steal from the House Helion!"
"By your will!" The butler didn’t waste any time and hurried to find the captain of the guards.
Meanwhile, Andreas headed to the secret pathway that led him to the treasure vault that their family had safeguarded for decades.
They had discovered it thirty years ago and had only broken through its outer defenses.
Even so, the amount of gold that they managed to acquire from that dragon nest was enough for them to fill their own coffers, which had originally dwindled after warring with the neighboring kingdom.
Although it didn’t belong to them, House Helion had already declared it as their own!
A few minutes later, the middle-aged man arrived at the entrance of the cavern.
He was ready to kill the thieves who had tried to enter his domain. But to his surprise, the thieves were nowhere to be found.
’Where are those bastards?!’ Andreas looked at his surroundings, but still saw no one.
It was then that he realized something.
He could hear voices from deep inside the cavern!
"Hahaha! I’m rich! Daedalus! Take the treasures! Take them all!"
"Understood!"
"Make sure not to leave anything behind! Not even a single gold coin must remain!"
"On it!"
Andreas’ expression changed from disbelief to shock, then anger in a span of a few seconds.
"You bastards!" Andreas shouted as loud as he could. "Stop whatever you are doing! This treasure belongs to House Helion! If you dare take it, I will hunt you down even if you run away to the end of the world!"
A moment of silence passed before Andreas heard the voices speak once more.
"C-Crap! Daedalus, hurry up!"
"I’m already storing them as fast as I can! Don’t worry. There’s a barrier protecting this place. They won’t be able to enter any time soon! In fact, why don’t you help me loot this place? Here, take a few sacks and start shoveling!"
Hearing the exchange, Andreas became mad with rage. He then took out a mirror from his storage ring, which would allow him to see the faces of the thieves who were taking away his treasures!
Yet, the moment he saw the young man with short blonde hair and blue eyes appear, the middle-aged man almost forgot how to breathe.
He had seen this young man before.
Andreas tried to wrack his brain to remember the brat, who was currently shoving gold inside a leather sack as if his life depended on it.
"Y-You!" Andreas finally recognized him, for the handsome young man’s portrait had been recently delivered by one of his agents to his house a week ago. "You vile, unfilial bastard! Get your hands off my Helion Family’s gold!"
The young man, who was busy filling up his sack with gold coins, finally came to a stop after hearing that.
"Helion..." Leone muttered. "That name sounds... ah!"
A dawn of realization came upon him. Yet, instead of stopping completely, a wicked smile appeared on his face.
"Hahaha! You think this treasure belongs to you?!" Leone laughed. "What a joke. These treasures belong to me. The true owner already handed it to me just a few hours ago. This is mine, so scram!"
The world was a very small place.
Leone didn’t expect that his little trip to the Dragon’s nest would send him to the territory of the Helion Family.
The same place where his mother spent her childhood, growing up with a family who loved her until she decided to defy their will.
