My Kingdom Building Done Right!
Chapter 339: Finders Versus Keepers [Part 2]Without a doubt, the Helion Family was among the most powerful in the Radiant Empire, second only to the Royal Family.
Leone’s Great Grandfather was a Hero of the Empire, a valiant man who defended its lands against the invasion of their neighboring kingdoms.
Despite being over a hundred years old, he was still hale and hearty with the appearance of a middle-aged man.
If Helen’s father and her grandfather were to be placed side by side, many would think they were merely brothers, for their ages didn’t look that far apart from each other.
This legendary man was none other than Lugh Von Helion. A man whom many knights, and warriors in the kingdom aspired to become.
To reward his contributions, he had been granted the title Grand Duke of House Helion. He had absolute sovereignty over his dominion, making him the most powerful person in the Radiant Empire, his status lower only to the King.
The former king also bestowed his beloved daughter to be his wife. And since then, Lugh had guarded the empire. And he hadn’t stopped, even to this day.
Their bond with the current Royal Family remained strong, and their task was to guard the empire from the Kingdom of Britannia.
If not for the fact that the Radiant Empire was besieged by the combined forces of the Beastkin Kingdom, Everheim, to the West, and their allies, the Barbarian Kingdom led by the Azura Tribe to the Southwest, they would have already waged war on the Kingdom of Britannia due to how annoying they were.
As if adding insult to injury, the Drakenfell Kingdom to the North had also decided to attack their borders, forcing the Radiant Empire to mobilize their defenses on three fronts.
At the moment, they could still defend their domain. But due to the constant skirmishes along their borders, they had to heavily rely on their merchant fleet, which sailed the seas of the East. Without these, the Radiant Empire would’ve failed to hold their ground.
The Helion Family’s coffers had decreased drastically after they helped the royal family fund the defense against their enemies.
If not for the Dragon’s Nest they discovered, they would have already run out of funds years ago.
But now, their little devil of a descendant suddenly appeared at the center of their treasure trove, bypassing the magical defenses that the Helion Family still could not break.
"You no-good grandson! Take your hands off our family’s treasure!" Andreas was very close to popping a blood vessel after seeing Leone resume filling his sack with gold coins.
Granted, it would take hundreds, if not thousands, of sacks to empty the entire cavern. Still, it was enough to make Andreas almost cough up blood on the spot.
"Stop! That is our treasure. We found it first!" Andreas protested.
"So what if you found it first?" Leone scoffed. "Why didn’t you take it all?"
"Because we can’t!"
"Sucks to be you then! I’m keeping them all!"
"Y-You little devil spawn!" Andreas stomped his foot angrily. "Stop right now while I’m still being merciful!"
"Hmph!" Leone scoffed. "If it were my great grandfather who asked me to stop, I would have seriously considered it. But you! You are my no-good grandfather! You bullied my mother when she married Father. You think I care about you? No way!"
"You insolent brat!" Andreas cursed. "Is this how your mother raised you?!"
At that moment, the guards of the Helion Family finally arrived at the entrance of the cavern and saw their Patriarch shouting toward the entrance.
"Your Grace! Where are the thieves?!" the Captain of the Guards, Clovis, asked.
"They’re inside the treasury!" Andreas shouted. "I don’t know how they did it, but they bypassed the magical defenses we’re struggling to break through!"
"What?!" Clovis’ eyes widened in shock. The Helion Family had spent considerable resources and manpower to find a way to break past the inner layer of the Dragon’s Nest.
While there were still several treasures scattered around the outer layer, they served as the Helion Family’s reserved funds for the time being.
"Quick, call my father before his no-good descendant ruins our entire family!" Andreas ordered. "Jeeves, go get me the communication crystal that allows me to contact Helen. If there’s anyone who can rein in this little devil, it will be no one else but her!"
""Yes, Your Grace!""
Clovis and Jeeves hurried to obey their orders.
Leone, who had heard his no-good grandfather’s orders from inside the cavern, paused his shoveling.
Even Daedalus stopped storing the gold coins in its surroundings.
Currently, the grimoire had only managed to store a sixth of the overall treasure in the Dragon’s nest.
It started at the corners of the treasure horde, rather than the center, lest it miss a single gold coin.
And after hearing that Andreas was about to call Leone’s mother, it hesitated whether it should continue or not.
Even Leone didn’t know how his mother would react after knowing that he was trying to take the treasure the Helion Family was safeguarding.
Anyway, this treasure didn’t belong to the Helion Family. Everything here was the property of Lord Azar, who gave him permission. No matter how one looked at it, the young man believed he had the moral high ground.
Whatever they say, the owner of the treasure had already told him that its treasure was now for Leone’s taking!
"Um, should I continue?" Daedalus asked its Master for confirmation.
"T-Take half of the treasure," Leone replied. "I’m sure Mother will allow that much."
The one who supported Helen when she was given the cold shoulder by her family was Leone’s Great Grandfather, Lugh Von Helion.
In short, the only one whom Leone would listen to was him. As for the current patriarch, Andreas, his words go in one ear and leave the other.
Daedalus thought Leone’s order was fair, so it decided to resume its job of taking half of the treasure.
This time, it decided to cut through the center of the treasure pile, effectively dividing it in half.
But when the grimoire arrived at the very center of the treasury, it noticed something peculiar.
There was a single treasure lying at the heart of the hoard that resisted being stored within its pages.
"Leone, come take a look at this," Daedalus called out to its Master.
"What’s wrong?" Leone asked as he moved toward the grimoire hovering on some kind of pedestal that had been buried by gold coins.
On the small pedestal was a single white box.
It looked extremely plain, but it was obvious that it wasn’t made of wood.
Ancient writing was etched on the pedestal, which Daedalus interpreted for Leone.
"Do not open unless you are curious. But be warned. The moment you open it, you’ll be in very, very, veeeeeeeeeeeeery big trouble."
Leone blinked once, then twice, before exchanging glances with Daedalus.
Both were thinking of the same thing. Whoever wrote this warning was either teasing them or playing some kind of prank.
"This box is begging someone to open it," Leone said calmly.
"True, but the warning sounds like big trouble," Daedalus commented. "What should we do?"
"Good question." Leone rubbed his chin. "For now, keep storing the gold coins."
"How about the treasured weapons, armors, and artifacts I also picked up?" Daedalus asked. "Should I spit them out?"
"What? Of course not." Leone shook his head. "We’re taking them all."
"Got it!" Daedalus once again moved to store the surrounding treasures, while leaving Leone to ponder if the box should be opened or not.
Half an hour later, the grimoire finally finished its task.
Although it divided the gold and precious gems in half, it took all the weapons, armors, and artifacts that didn’t resist being stored in its pages.
It was also then that Andreas was finally able to connect to Leone’s mother, Helen, through the communication crystal.
The first thing he did was complain to Helen, asking her how she raised such a devil of a son.
Helen, who had no idea what was happening, immediately snapped back at her father for badmouthing her sons.
She had three sons, so she had no idea who her father was referring to. However, no matter who it was, the fact that he called her sons little devils was something that she wouldn’t ignore no matter what.
"Who are you calling a little devil, you failure of a father?!" Helen shouted angrily.
"Hah! Did I hear that right?" Andreas barked back. "You failure-of-a-daughter! Is that how you greet your father after not seeing or talking to me for months?!"
"I would’ve greeted you nicely if you hadn’t started insulting my sons!"
"Your son is robbing our family’s treasury!"
"Hah! What a joke! If you are going to spout nonsense, I’m leaving! I’m very busy, you know?"
Andreas nearly dropped the communication crystal out of anger, hearing his daughter think that he was lying.
"I am not joking!" Andreas roared. "Your no-good son is stealing the treasures in the Dragon’s nest! Do you think I’ll joke about that? I’m also a busy person!"
Helen paused for a moment before asking, "...Which one?"
"The third one!"
"Oh."
There was a brief moment of silence.
"...Yeah, that sounds like Leone." The corner of Helen’s lips rose to a faint smile.
She had no idea how her son ended up in their family’s secret vault.
But since it was enough to make her father turn beet-red in anger, she was very tempted to applaud her amazing son for doing a job well done!
