My Kingdom Building Done Right!
Chapter 342: Don’t Tell Your Mother [Part 2]"Don’t tell me... you had a child with this lady?" Andreas asked, his voice tinged with anxiousness.
Lugh nodded. "Yes."
"Does Mother know?!" Andreas almost shouted in shock.
"No." Lugh firmly shook his head. "I only learned of this three years ago when I visited the Azura Kingdom incognito. One thing led to another, and before I knew it, I suddenly found out I have an extended family out of nowhere."
Andreas pinched the bridge of his nose at his words. "It would have been better if I didn’t know about this."
Jeeves, who had remained respectfully silent until now, suddenly found the ceiling extremely interesting.
Sure, he knew many of the family’s secrets. Though, just like Andreas, he felt like this was a secret he shouldn’t be hearing right now.
"By the Goddess..." Even Helen didn’t know how she should react to this revelation.
Lugh raised both hands defensively. "I was young! I wasn’t exactly expecting to leave a legacy behind when I left the Azura Tribe. She also didn’t tell me anything and raised our child alone.
"She was a very proud, independent woman. I only wish that I knew this beforehand. However, I didn’t. Since I can’t turn back the hands of time, then I just need to accept the fact that I had a child with the warrior lady, who was also my first crush."
Leone suddenly felt Yuni holding his hand a bit tighter, which made him turn his head toward her.
Her eyes were telling him that he shouldn’t be like his great grandfather, who casually left his seeds without confirming if they bore fruit or not.
"Don’t worry," Leone whispered. "I won’t do something like that."
Yuni nodded, understanding that Leone was different from his great grandfather.
"Anyways." Lugh coughed lightly to continue his story. "That child grew up, had children of his own, and those children continued the family line. They inherited my qualities, and eventually, the current Barbarian King was born."
Leone, Andreas, Helen, and Jeeves all froze at the same time.
Lugh casually dropped a bomb on their heads that they didn’t see coming.
"What?!" Andreas was the first one to break the silence, looking at his father as if he had committed a crime worthy of death. "So what you’re saying is that the current Barbarian King is..."
"My descendant," Lugh declared without batting an eye.
"How close?" Andreas asked, almost afraid of knowing the answer to his question.
Lugh stroked his beard. "Great grandson, if I remember correctly."
Andreas facepalmed in response. The Barbarian King, who was currently terrorizing the western borders of the Empire, was actually his cousin?
If the King of the Radiant Empire knew this information, wouldn’t their family be charged with treason?!
"Father, you’ll end up being the cause of our family’s downfall." Andreas couldn’t help but feel like he had suddenly aged ten years after learning this secret. "You know, the ministers and the other high-ranking nobles already hate your guts. If they knew of this secret, they would pounce on our family like wolves eyeing a herd of sheep for slaughter."
"It’s fine." Lugh casually waved his hand as if it wasn’t a big deal. "If worse comes to worst, I’ll personally mediate between the Barbarian King and the Radiant Empire. Problem solved!"
"No, it’s not!" At this point, Andreas had completely forgotten about his grudge against his no-good grandson and had shifted to glaring at his no-good father, who had created a mess far worse than what Leone could have done.
"Well, look at the bright side." Lugh coughed once more. "We have ties with the Barbarian King of the west. That’s good, right? Also, since he and Leone are both my great grandchildren, they will get along well... probably."
This time, Brann and Otto, who knew about the "True" Barbarian King of the West, couldn’t help but think that the world was a very small place.
Then again, who would have thought that their current Great Chieftain and the Barbarian King were actually cousins?
Second cousin, as a matter of fact.
"Oh... I also forgot to mention that the lady I had a tryst with is still very much alive." Lugh smiled faintly. "Although she now looks like a granny, the first thing she did when she saw me was hit me with a chair. Damn, she’s really a strong woman."
"I would have definitely done the same if there was a chair near me right now," Andreas said through gritted teeth.
"Also, my son—errr, your half-brother is very much alive," Lugh added. "He also punched me. Not once, but twice."
"Father, can I punch you right now?" Andreas hadn’t seen this half-brother of his yet, but for some reason, he believed that they might get along just fine.
Lugh ignored his son’s question and continued his explanation. "Then, my great grandson, who goes by the name Alaric, told me to join hands and take over the Radiant Empire. Of course, I refused his offer. Though I did encourage him to do his best."
"...You encouraged the Barbarian King to attack the Radiant Empire?" Andreas was very close to punching his old man for committing such a treasonous act against their own king.
Lugh shrugged. "Don’t worry. The Radiant Empire is strong."
"That’s not the problem here!"
"Son, you think too much. Regardless of what happens, they are still our family. Don’t worry. Things will work out...probably."
"I’m telling Mother," Andreas threatened back.
"Don’t!" Lugh finally reacted after being given the ultimate threat. "She’ll skin me alive if she knew."
"I hope she does. I’ll even assist her. You deserve it."
"Andreas, calm down. Let’s talk about this like civil people."
For the first time, the Hero of the Radiant Empire politely spoke to his own son, who was looking back at him as if he wanted to disown his own father.
Helen was also pinching the bridge of her nose at this moment, wishing she hadn’t heard anything.
However, after careful consideration, she thought that this might not be a bad thing.
After all, the Azura Kingdom also bordered the Kingdom of Britannia.
If she played her cards right, then wouldn’t she gain an ally that could attack the kingdom that exiled her son to the Borderlands?
’Maybe I should ask Grandfather to give me a letter of introduction to the Barbarian King,’ Helen thought. ’Yes. That might work.’
Meanwhile, Leone could only stare at the bickering between his no-good grandfather and his no-good great grandfather.
The simple discussion of having the Orion Troupe travel toward the Aslan Tribe had opened up a can of worms no one saw coming.
"Father, I’ll ask you this just to be sure," Andreas said in a serious tone. "Aside from that tryst with the lady from the Azura Tribe, did you have any other encounters with beautiful women during your younger years?"
The Hero averted his gaze in response as if this question was something that he didn’t want to answer.
"Oh, right. I forgot that I was still in the middle of something." Lugh knew that if he didn’t leave now, things might become more awkward with his family. "Helen, we’ll talk again soon. Leone, just wait for the Orion Troupe to arrive at your domain. I’ll handle everything, so look forward to it!"
He then left without looking back, leaving only silence in his wake.
"..."

"..."
"..."
Everyone watched as Lugh walked away in a hurry while maintaining his dignified expression. Those who didn’t know better thought he was simply returning to his duties and not running away from the judgmental stares of his family members.
As for Leone, Andreas, Helen, and Jeeves, they didn’t know whether they should be impressed or horrified by the realization that the great Hero of the Radiant Empire might have left behind enough descendants and connections to become the Empire’s greatest threat since the day it was founded.
