The sound of wooden weapons clashing against each other echoed within the Hidden Valley.
With it came the lively cheers of countless children, bringing amusement to the adults.
"""Logan!"""
"""Logan!"""
"""Logan!"""
Leone shot a glare at the children, the frontline spectators to his sparring match with the Orc Chieftain of the Ravage Tribe. The little gremlins were actually cheering for his opponent instead of their own chieftain!
"You little devils!" Leone shouted. "You should be cheering for me!"
"Eh?" Runa blinked. "Why must we cheer for you, Leone? Everyone here knows that you’ll lose."
"That’s right! Why would we cheer for the loser?"
"Logan! Beat him up!"
"Spank his bum, Logan!"
"""Beat him up!"""
At that moment, Leone raised his wooden staff and waved it threateningly at the children.
"You little traitors!" Leone roared. "Don’t let me get my hands on any of you! I’ll spank you all until your butts turn red!"
"Boooo!"
"The loser is talking!"
"Mom! Leone lost it!"
"Dad! Leone has gone crazy!"
From the side, Yuni and Aria giggled, finding the scene before them extremely funny.
Even Logan couldn’t help but chuckle. Leone was probably the only chieftain in the Borderlands who allowed children to talk smack about him right in front of his face!
"Leone! Do your best to become strong!" Runa crossed her arms over her chest. "If you become stronger than Logan, I’ll let you marry me after eight years!"
"And why would I marry a little gremlin like you?" Leone sneered. "Hmph! Even if you grow up to become a drop-dead gorgeous lady, I will not even glance in your direction!"
"Hah! Now you’ve done it!" Runa shouted. "Porkchop, I choose you!"
*Oink!*
The Great Pudge raised its head arrogantly in response as it looked down on Leone like he was beneath its hooves.
"Hmph! Do you think I’m scared of a little pig?!" Leone sneered. "Fohrest, I choose you!"
The Frillcrest Lizard landed in front of Leone and stood up on its hind legs. It towered over Porkchop, making the black pig narrow its eyes.
The Great Pudge didn’t back down, squealing back at the young man in anger.
*Oink!*
"Huh? You want me to fight you one on one like a pig? Hah! If you want to fight a pig, then go fight Runa instead. She’s a pig like you!"
*Oink!*
"That’s right, Porkchop!" Runa shouted. "Let’s teach Leone a lesson!"
"Bring it on!" Leone smirked. "Fohrest! Tackle attack!"
"Porkchop, use Wild Charge now!" Runa ordered.
*Grrr!*
*Oink!*
At Leone’s command, Fohrest lunged at the Great Pudge, to which Porkchop responded by stomping its foot and charging... away from battle!
It hurriedly left the Hidden Valley and ran to the underground tunnels, escaping its battle with a monster stronger than it by a few ranks.
Seeing Runa’s shocked expression, Leone laughed out loud. The kids usually got the upper hand, but not today!
Logan couldn’t help but facepalm at the sight, while Aria covered her face in embarrassment.
Yuni, on the other hand, comforted Runa, who ran into her arms, crying and complaining that Porkchop abandoned her.
"Leone made Runa cry!" one of the kids shouted.
"Avenge Runa!" Another raised their fist.
"""Charge!"""
Soon, the young chieftain found himself being grabbed by several children, most of whom were around three to five years old.
This time, Fohrest ran away and left its Master behind. It chose itself.
The children of the Aslan Tribe were the fearless type and would not hesitate to grab hold of any of the monsters around them, even ordering them to carry them on their backs.
And now, these same fearless kids were making sure that Leone wasn’t going anywhere. Unfortunately for them, Leone was the powerful chieftain of the Aslan Tribe.
"If you don’t let go of me, there will be no more bread from now on!" Leone declared. "You will no longer taste it with jam, as well as cover it with honey!"
The children immediately pulled back. Eating bread with jam, butter, and honey had already become part of their everyday lives.
The smug-looking young man flipped his hair after defeating a bunch of kids.
"Okay. Fight someone your own size, Leone," Logan reminded the young man that they were still in the middle of a spar.
"I’m not your size either, though?" Hearing that, Leone knew that playtime was over and his training would once again begin.
Truth be told, he had been sparring with the Orc Champion nearly every day since he returned from the Sandreaver Tribe.
He wanted to at least put the Martial Skill he learned into practice as a way of self-defense.
Of course, Logan was more than happy to help him improve his skill, as it would reduce his worry toward Leone.
Everyone knew that the young man wasn’t really a fighter, so letting him spar with a strong opponent would allow him to improve faster.
An hour later, the young chieftain collapsed on the ground, panting for breath.
He tried everything he could, but there was really no way for him to bridge the gap between him and Logan.
Then again, the Orc Champion reached his rank through constant battles. Compared to him, Leone was just a child barely starting to learn how to take his first few steps out into the world.
"Good work, Leone." Yuni handed him a towel to wipe his face, while Aria crouched down to offer him a glass of water.
"Thank you, Yuni, Aria." Leone drank the glass of water before wiping his face with the towel.
Seeing him work hard like this made the two ladies smile. They knew Leone was doing this not only for himself, but for the entire tribe as well.
He knew that the barbarians looked up to a strong leader.
And while strong wasn’t a word that perfectly fit Leone, this didn’t change the fact that the Aslan Tribe would jump into the jaws of death for his sake.
He might be the weakest chieftain in the Borderlands, but none of them would wish for anyone to take his place.
In their eyes, Leone was their Great Chieftain, and it would remain that way until he finally chose to retire.
A few minutes later, Kael appeared in the Hidden Valley to inform Leone that the Pteranodon Riders had already left Grimjaw Mountain to send word to the other tribes about the possible invasion of the Kingdom of Britannia in the Borderlands.
While the possibility of this happening was low, he’d rather not take any chances.
He also wished to talk to his mother as soon as possible.
So far, the Kingdom of Britannia had yet to learn that Leone had already created a foothold in Grimjaw Mountain.
If possible, he would like to keep it that way.
’I’ll see her again tomorrow,’ Leone thought. ’I just hope Mom has the information I need.’
The Frontera Family was one of the protectors of the Kingdom of Britannia.
With that said, the last thing Leone wanted to happen was to face his own family on the battlefield.
’The timing of their war preparations is also too convenient to be a coincidence,’ Leone mused. ’Are they aware that the Tribal Gathering is about to take place?’
Eden was located in the south of the Borderlands.
Since the chieftains of each respective tribe would gather there, the northern part of their territory would remain unguarded.
Plus, since the Monster Stampede had already been dealt with, the Kingdom of Britannia no longer needed to fear having their army trampled to the ground by the monster army.
Still, Leone believed that the united barbarian army could drive them away.
What he feared was that this could be another conspiracy that he knew nothing about.
Just like how the Chieftain of the Bonegnash Tribe, Osteon, had collaborated with the Monster King to wipe out the other chieftains of the Borderlands, the Kingdom of Britannia would not make a move unless they had a certain chance of victory.
This only meant one thing.
’They might plan to ally themselves with another power.’ Leone’s expression turned solemn after coming to this conclusion.
Although the Kingdom of Britannia didn’t get along well with their neighbors, that didn’t make collaborations impossible.
As long as the right conditions were met, even enemies could shake hands and work together to achieve a common goal.
Though if his assumption was true, then another question needed to be answered.
Who?
Who among the powers surrounding the Borderlands were they planning to ally with?
The Barbarian King that led the Azura Tribe in the west?
The Beastkin Kingdom that had formed an alliance with the Barbarian King?
Or was it the behemoth in the south?
’The Aurelion Empire...’
If there was one power that the Kingdom of Britannia would not hesitate to shake hands with, it would be the Aurelion Empire.
Since both powers could attack the Borderlands from the north and south, the barbarians would be hard-pressed to defend themselves.
’I hope I’m just overthinking things.’ Leone sighed internally. ’I’m just being paranoid. Right, Daedalus?’
The grimoire didn’t answer Leone’s question.
Actually, it had already sent out two Pteranodons to spy on both kingdoms, hoping it could gather the right information before these two superpowers attacked the Borderlands with a pincer attack.
