I myself have a minor background in robotics. Back in middle school I received an offer to join the school’s toy robotics club after I had solved a problem they were having off handedly.
The club was one that would compete against other schools in the region all the way up to a national level.
One day after school I was hanging out in the science room, I don’t remember why, but they were having a problem getting the toy robot to move how they wanted it to.
I just remember standing there with my hands in my pockets and saying something casually. Next thing I know the club and the adviser were offering me a spot on their team.
At the time I thought the club was cringey and only for geeks. Now, I regret that decision a little. My life would be very different if I had taken them up on the offer. It now sounds like a lot of fun.
But, now, I am 26. I have different priorities and vengeances I have to fulfill.
A shame.
It only took a few tries to get back the feeling of using a soldering iron. I had been a tin smith for a time as well as a jewelry maker. That came with using a soldering iron often.
I sat at the workstation with just the illumination of the ringlight and a magnifying glass taped to it. I sat there for hours, the toxic smoke wafting up from the electronics, stinging my nose.
By nightfall I had completed the build.
A fully functional miniature electric VTOL fighter jet sat in the warehouse.
I really outdid myself.
I made the VTOL way better than it had any right to be.
Obviously it has a receiver to use satellites for connection which is also the biggest fault in its stealth. Otherwise the stealth is flawless. It is electric so any heat signatures would be minimal. It has no human occupants so the design is very angular. Finally it is way smaller than a plane.
The weaponry is the coil gun it is housed inside the plane until time for use. When needed it opens a hatch and lowers, ready to be fired.
The coil gun uses the same energy the plane needs to fly so you have to be careful of usage. The coil gun is fit to shoot the equivalent of a 50 caliber bullet with slightly less velocity. However after a few upgrades, hopefully we can remedy that situation.
The coil gun can hold 1, 5 round cartridge or magazine. So you have 5 shots. I could fit more, but that requires more weight, and the coil gun is designed to be used by a person.
Then, the radar and cameras I equipped. Everything. Everything I could get my hands on. Infrared, heat, radio, normal high resolution camera, night vision, image intensification, and sensor fusion on all of them.
Some of these seem like the same thing but they use different types of technology to cover the gaps.
I made sure that all angles were covered, 360 degree visibility, in all forms. I also integrated a miniature computer to moderate all of this.
This is mainly a scouting drone with 5 high powered suppressed sniper shots.
The reason they are "suppressed" is because they are "fired" using magnets, which doesn’t produce a lot of sound, if any. The only sound you really hear is a slight ’th-’ sound, of the projectile leaving the barrel.
The most noise produced will be the sound of the electric turbine whining. The high pitched sound a drone makes is all you will hear. If you are even close enough to hear that, then you aren’t the target.
Now that the VTOL has been completed it was time to put it to the test and get to upgrading it.
AI integration is an amazing thing. Using AI to control this thing to fly for 16 hours to upgrade it twice will be easy. The battery can last from 6 to 10 hours. In a controlled environment it can last on the longer side of things.
After the first upgrade I took a nap for a few hours then got back to it. While the second upgrade was gaining experience I got a facial recognition AI started.
My first thought was to hack Tyrell’s phone, or the FBI again, but the facial recognition would come in handy regardless.
...
Over the next few days I stayed locked up in the warehouse.
The day before the funeral I went out to get a black suit and take a shower. I decided to get a nice suit since I would be wearing it for the foreseeable future, since all of my clothes went up in flames.
I went to get a shower first, to do that I got a room at a hotel.
After the shower I went to the luxury suit store, where I spent 5 minutes looking at their entire line up, only to turn around and walk out.
All of the suits looked awful. I swear I remember them having a suit I dreamed of owning one day.
So, I walked over to the other suit store and found a suit I liked in a few minutes. It was a fully blacked out suit, blazer, vest, tie, shirt, pants, shoes, and even socks. They even had some hair gel there that I also picked up.
I want to send Layla off looking my best.
I drove back to the hotel in my McLoud. I would have preferred to drive the Cancry but it was what Layla drove home so it also got burned up.
So many things were lost to the fire, not just Layla, or the computers, but also all of the old family pictures, small trinkets that I made as a kid, even my childhood blanket. They were all turned into charcoal.
I used to think I had an affinity for fire, now I think I might be cursed by it.
I laid in the hotel bed just staring at the ceiling waiting for the date to change, as the feeling of sleep eluded me.
