The phone text conversation.

Mr. Li, "Sorry to bother, but I have a situation on my end that needs dealing with. I would like your advice."

Unknown, "Speak."

Mr. Li, "A couple came in today declaring that they were going to buy Apollo Roll. That I didn’t have a choice because they could shut us down whenever they wanted. Normally I wouldn’t put too much weight into what they say, but they are from the Purple Lotus. Something I thought you would find interesting is that one of your people was with them. ’Picture attached’"

"Are you sure they are from the Purple Lotus?"

"I’m pretty sure. That was how they got an appointment with me."

"Alright, we will handle it."

The picture was a picture he took with the flip phone of the security footage he had pulled up on his computer.

There were older messages that I would have to talk to Xue Qing about.

Tracking the other phone from the number and gps tracking led to a rented motel room which was paid for in cash. The person staying there was a nondescript ordinary person. He was probably relaying the information somehow.

But, I couldn’t figure out how. He was by far the most cautious person I had seen so far.

Since this was a dead end I decided to see how Xue Qing was fairing.

When I walked over she said, "Hey, how did it go?"

"Well, I managed to find the phone and get the conversations. The information is still pretty vague, but they did refer to you as "one of theirs". So, I think it is fair to say that it is the Fengbao family.

Especially if you consider the older messages. They talk about how the rising gas prices are a part of a much bigger plan. They don’t go into detail, so I can’t say what that plan is. But there are connections to some of their other businesses.

Something else that I’m concerned about is that it seems like the Fengbao family now knows that we own or are high up in the Purple Lotus."

"If my family knows that I’m a part of the Purple Lotus then they know that I must be near the top if not the owner. Plus, if they looked into it they would know that we are married. That is a public record that they could check.

They probably came to the conclusion that you are the owner and I am the owner by proxy. So, if they just kill the two of us they could take over the entire Purple Lotus.

Which means that they will continue trying. Right now they are probably increasing their efforts to get rid of us. They have also probably tracked us back to Hong Kong and know that we are hiding out in some secret hide out in the mountains.

If we can hack cameras, they can pay to access them whenever they want.

We need to increase our defenses."

"Right. I already had that idea. My thought was to build defense towers."

"Like in the mobile games? Tower defence?"

"Something like that. At least in concept. The great thing about having massive 3D printers that can print whatever we want. Is that we can print all of the guns and weaponry that we want. Then what is the best way to utilize that?

My idea is to create subterranean towers that when we are attacked pop out of the ground and annihilate everything in the area."

"That’s not a bad idea, but the time line to install them is too short."

"That’s a fair point, but as long as we have the towers we are fine. We can worry about hiding them as we go. For the weapons we will use coil guns since they can use different sized projectiles and make little to no noise.

They are the perfect anti personnel weapons. To be fair, if I increase the size they could take out just about anything. Imagine, a massive coil gun comes out of the ground, the projectiles it shoots are the size of a telephone pole.

Traveling at extreme speeds, that would go through any tank or armored vehicle. With the proper target locking, tracking, and predictions, it could even take out planes. Not that I have confidence in that.

I would like to get a Phalanx gun, which is a radar-guided 20mm Gatling gun that acts as the last resort. It fires thousands of rounds per minute to shred incoming missiles at point-blank range.

However I would like to change it into a coil gun and upgrade the targeting system before using my ability on it. I think that would go nuts. Especially if we used it as an anti personnel weapon. We would just need to stock a massive amount of projectiles for them to shoot."

"I think that is a war crime."

"Maybe, but who cares? If they are coming to kill us, I’m not going to sleep any differently if they have a whole corpse or not."

"I’m more worried about stray projectiles hitting innocent people."

"Just another reason to build towers. That way they shoot down into the dirt."

"I guess that’s just what we will have to do."

"Yes! Tower Defence! Anyway, how did things come up on your end?"

"The same conclusion as yours. I tracked the hit squad to a warehouse that was owned by a shell company. But, if you track the connections back far enough it leads back to my family. The money always has to come from somewhere. So long as it’s not cash."

"Right. We should get to building our defences, but we shouldn’t be passive. We should launch a counter attack."

"What do you propose?"

"I say we follow up on our threat. We lock down not only Apollo Roll but the parent company too. The parent company and all of their subsidiaries are related to the internet or electronics. So, let’s shut all of it down.

The Fengbao family also has many businesses related to the internet or use robotics. We should lock down any that are not essential.

I know they have their hands in pharmaceuticals, health, and transit. We can’t risk people’s lives over this. Even if it would be a much more effective way of crashing their stock prices."
