My Life as an Awoken

For a bit of context the third ranked company is an Albion based company that used to control 80% of the entire world’s supply of diamonds. Now it has dropped down to around 25%.

The reason we need to focus on lab grown diamonds is because of the continued conflict that is affecting most of Africa.

Plus with lab grown diamonds we will be able to control the quality and size we produce.

Anyway, we are getting ready to "gamble" on jade.

After talking with the middle aged bearded guy he followed us around as we picked out a few stones. We chose 3 stones out of the entire lot.

I thought there would be more jade amongst the choices. From what we could see from the energy there were only these 3. It made me skeptical that this was a scam.

The 3 stones we chose were a small fist sized stone, a rock the size of a watermelon, and a boulder the size of a small car.

The first rock was shining the brightest. It was shining a bright and deep verdant green with streaks of shimmering gold swimming about.

The second stone was letting off a dim eerie glow. The glow was more like a deep dark shadowy fog that dimly emanated from the depths of the stone. It seemed to dim the color of everything around it.

The final boulder was what drew our attention. The light coming off of it wasn’t especially bright but it was huge, like a billboard lighting up the night sky. The boulder wasn’t something that was actually for sale. It was more of a joke the owner had made.

That when someone finally bought the boulder he could finally retire. But, it had a price tag and we were willing to pay. The shop keeper was more than happy to take our money.

With such a large spectacle happening a crowd had formed. It was full of curious onlookers wondering who the big boss was that came to throw their money away.

No one thought for a moment that such a ridiculous stone would produce a quality jade. Words of doubt could be heard all the way through the screen.

We decided to start cutting here because we would need to get special equipment to cut the stones anyway. Doing it here saves time and money.

We started with the second ominous stone. We had to be very specific with where to cut the stone. Because we wanted the biggest whole piece of jade. A lot of these stone cutters will split the stone in half which also cuts the jade in half.

We still need to find out what the best shape to cut the gems or crystals into. So, we need a large whole piece.

With the first slice of the edge of the stone falling away we got a look at the inside. Inside was an inky black jade peeking out of the stone. When a flash light was held up to the jade it gave off a noxious green glow that screamed of something ominous.

From the back came gasps and shouts of astonishment.

"Wa! A jade! They actually pulled a rare black jade!"

"No way! Out of that normal looking stone? How!?"

"Sigh. Younsters these days. It was obviously their fate to receive this jade."

"What’s that supposed to mean grandpa?"

"Well... No, no. I can’t speak on heaven’s mandate."

"Pa. If you don’t know then don’t speak up."

"Hmph, if you youngsters knew of what I knew... There is a reason that the jade is so ominous. I won’t speak anymore than that."

"Huh? You mean..? Sigh, poor couple. Their fate must be tragic."

While they were speaking we moved onto the smallest rock. It was the size of a fist so cutting a sliver off only took a moment. When the piece fell everyone saw the radiant jade sitting inside. As the flashlight hit the jade a voice shouted from the crowd, "Jade! Imperial Jade! Oh my god, it’s imperial jade of the highest quality!"

As the shouts and exclamations resounded another voice questioned, "Wait, grandpa, what was that about their fate?"

"Cough. Fate works in mysterious ways."

"Ha. Shameless old coot. Hmph."

As we moved onto the largest boulder everyone went to get food to prepare for the long wait of cutting down the thick boulder.

A while later a chunk of the boulder fell away showing a pale tip of something hidden in the boulder. The rine of this jade is exceptionally thick. Just like the others, this one was also a hit. As the flashlight landed on the tip of the exposed jade there was an audible gasp followed by a long stretch of silence.

This large jade was a clear icy color. While it wasn’t as majestic as the imperial jade, the sheer size made this exquisite jade a marvel of the world. Everyone around knew that this would be something talked about for ages to come.

Finally someone managed to take a breath and that released the flood of exclamations. No one knew what anyone was saying, but somehow they understood.

The jade traders that had been paying attention to everything the whole time made their move. They rushed forward to make an offer to the mysterious pair on the computer.

I watched all of this happen. The chaos, the noise, the excitement of all of the people I could see, and I just felt out of place. I felt like an outside observer in my own life. Like I was watching everything happen from a little screen inside of my head. Everything was happening and I was just reacting.

It reminded me of birthday parties I went to as a kid. We would all be playing then I would find myself on my own. Everyone else went off to play something else without telling me. This always seemed to happen. Without fail I would always find myself alone, on the outside looking in.

Even in the middle of conversations with friends, sometimes it would feel like they are the group and I’m just here. An addition no one would miss.

It seems that lately I have even felt that way about even my own body.
