The night was deep, and the long street was silent.
Liang Cheng gripped the hilt of the Zhenxian Saber at his waist. His steps were steady, his muscles quietly tensing as True Qi circulated slowly through his Meridians, ready to unleash a thunderous strike at a moment’s notice.
He rounded a corner. The lights grew sparse, and a cold gust of wind swept by, stirring a few withered leaves on the ground.
Liang Cheng stopped in his tracks.
About a hundred feet ahead, a hunched figure slowly emerged from the shadows.
Moonlight fell upon a face covered in wrinkles. It was none other than the Xu Family’s Supreme Elder, Xu Jinjiang.
His face showed none of the deathly aura he had displayed before the gates of the Xu Mansion. Instead, his eyes shone with a sharp, piercing light.
He did his best to restrain his aura, but the pressure belonging to the True Qi Realm Perfection still spread out like an invisible tide.
"Liang Zhenchuan."
Xu Jinjiang spoke calmly, his voice dry. "The hour is late. Why haven’t you returned to the Martial Arts Academy to rest? You must be careful out here."
Liang Cheng looked at him and suddenly smiled.
"Were you waiting here for me specifically, Elder Xu?"
"There are some things I wish to discuss with Liang Zhenchuan."
"Please."
Xu Jinjiang was silent for a moment. "Liang Zhenchuan, the Xu Family has already paid the price. The Patriarch, Xu Tianxing, died in the Martial Arts Academy’s prison, most of our assets have been confiscated, and our century-old foundation has been destroyed in a single stroke.
"This old man has been in seclusion for ten years, uninvolved in worldly affairs. I have only emerged to preserve what little remains of my family’s legacy. I ask for nothing more."
He looked up at Liang Cheng, a flicker of complex emotion in his eyes. "Why must you insist on investigating further?"
Hearing this, Liang Cheng’s gaze turned cold. "Perhaps you aren’t aware, Elder Xu, but if I hadn’t been so lucky, I would have died at the Xu Family’s hands long ago."
"Besides, can you guarantee that the Xu Family has truly done nothing wrong? Even if I were to drop the matter, would the Xu Family really be willing to let me go?"
Xu Jinjiang’s expression changed.
Liang Cheng sneered, his voice low and every word clear. "It’s the middle of the night, and you’ve personally come to intercept me. Did someone force your hand, compelling you to kill me to silence me?"
The sharp light in Xu Jinjiang’s eyes flared, and the aura around him erupted with a ROAR!
"Liang Cheng, you are too clever, and you don’t know when to back down. There are some things that, once known, seal your fate. You won’t live long."
"Finally done with the act?"
Liang Cheng’s right hand rested on his saber hilt as a faint golden luster shone from beneath his skin. "Xu Jinjiang, you’ve been in seclusion for ten years. Today, this junior would like to ask for a lesson."
Before his words had even faded, Xu Jinjiang struck first!
His hunched figure instantly straightened, making him look twenty years younger. He took a single step, and the bluestone slabs paving the ground cracked and splintered.
His right hand formed a claw, its tips glowing with an eerie dark red. It tore through the air, trailing illusions of blood and gore as it aimed straight for Liang Cheng’s throat.
"Blood-Eroding Claw!"
Before the Claw Wind arrived, a bone-chillingly cold True Qi Power rushed toward him!
This time, Liang Cheng did not retreat. Instead, he advanced!
"CLANG—!"
The Zhenxian Saber left its sheath!
The dark, heavy blade drew a cold arc under the moonlight. Within the piercing shriek of the blade cutting through the air, there was the faint crackle of wind and thunder!
[Wind and Thunder Slash·Shocking Thunder]!
Saber and claw clashed!
"CLANG—!!!"
The deafening sound of metal on metal was ear-piercing, sending sparks flying. Liang Cheng felt a strange, cold Power travel up the blade, attempting to erode the Meridians in his arm.
He snorted. The True Qi of his Broken Wave Technique surged forth, and a tide of pale blue Qi Force instantly shattered the dark red Power.
The two broke apart after a single touch, each retreating three steps.
A look of horror flashed through Xu Jinjiang’s eyes.
He had used eighty percent of his Blood-Eroding True Qi in that claw strike. Even a Martial Artist of the same Realm would have had their True Qi corroded and its circulation impeded had they taken it head-on.
But not only had Liang Cheng taken the hit unharmed, the rebound force had actually made his own fingertips go numb. ’This boy’s foundation is far beyond my estimations.’
Xu Jinjiang gritted his teeth. "As expected of a True Inheritor from the Martial Arts Academy!"
"You’re not bad yourself."
Liang Cheng held his saber horizontally before him.
"This junior is just a bit puzzled. Why would the esteemed Supreme Elder of the Xu Family know the Blood Erosion Force of the Fire Worship Sect? It seems the Xu Family’s allegiance with the Cult is nothing new."
"You’re courting death!"
"Do you think everyone is like you, a young prodigy for whom learning Martial Arts is as simple as drinking water? I reached the True Qi Realm at thirty, but I only managed to form three True Qi Seeds. I was stuck in the True Qi Realm for fifty years, unable to advance a single step."
"All I wanted was to take one more step forward! Lin Wu City couldn’t help me break through, but the Fire Worship Sect’s Blood Erosion Force allowed me to reach Perfection. I’m only one step away from breaking through to True Essence and increasing my lifespan."
"It’s just a difference in Martial Arts philosophy. Whatever allows me to advance is a good Martial Art. Why bother with all this sectarian nonsense?"
Hearing this, Liang Cheng sneered.
"So you’re the true culprit behind the Xu Family’s current predicament?"
At these words, Xu Jinjiang’s eyes flew wide with fury. With a furious roar, he stopped holding back.
He struck with both claws, his figure flickering like a phantom. A sky full of dark red claw shadows descended, each strike aimed at a vital point, sinister and ruthless.
Liang Cheng’s expression grew solemn.
True Qi Realm Perfection was, after all, more than just a single step above the Middle Stage.
Compared to Xu Jinjiang, Xu Tianxing had been far too weak.
Xu Jinjiang’s True Qi was condensed and powerful, and the corrosive nature of his Blood Erosion Force was much harder to deal with. If not for his own Golden Armor Realm Perfection, his formidable physical body, and the protection of his Broken Wave Technique’s True Qi, he would have already been at a disadvantage.
But he didn’t panic. The situation at Dongshan Mine, where he had fought three opponents at once, had been just as perilous. Back then, if Master Lü hadn’t stepped in to protect his own, he wouldn’t have retreated a single step either.
The next moment, the gleam of his saber flared once more!
This time, Liang Cheng’s Saber Momentum had changed.
It alternated between fast and slow, light and heavy. At times, it was like a torrential storm, the light of his saber a continuous blur. At others, it was like the boom of muffled thunder, each strike heavier than the last.
His Wind Force tore through the claw shadows, his Thunder Force vibrated the opponent’s True Qi, and the tidal aftershocks of his Broken Wave Technique layered upon one another, seeping in through every opening.
