Morning in Bibo City. The sea breeze carried its characteristic salty, fishy smell.
When Liang Cheng arrived at the docks, more than ten people had already gathered by Ye Zhiqiu’s Sea Ship.
Xiao Qingxue was there, along with some disciples from Bibo City’s prominent families. None of them had a weak aura; the lowest among them had a True Qi Realm Cultivation.
Upon seeing Liang Cheng, everyone cupped their fists in greeting, their attitudes exceptionally polite.
"Brother Liang."
"Senior Brother Liang."
Liang Cheng cupped his hands in return, his expression calm.
Ye Zhiqiu smiled and clapped Liang Cheng on the shoulder. As they boarded the ship, he chuckled and said in a low voice, "They’re all scared of that move you pulled yesterday. Who in Bibo City doesn’t know now that Liang Cheng of the Main Courtyard has a violent temper and shouldn’t be provoked?"
Liang Cheng shook his head. If Chen Xuanfeng hadn’t been humiliated yesterday, he wouldn’t have shown his edge. ’If I hadn’t fought back then,’ he thought, ’I would have been looked down upon instead.’
Waiting for Ye Zhiqiu to resolve it would have been far more complicated, given the intricate relationships between the city’s families. It was much simpler for him to take action himself.
At that moment, Xiao Qingxue was standing at the prow, her white robes fluttering in the sea breeze. She gave Liang Cheng a nod, which served as a greeting.
After everyone had boarded, the Sea Ship slowly departed from the shore.
"Beyond this stretch of sea are the High Seas."
Ye Zhiqiu stood beside Liang Cheng, pointing at the distant sea surface.
"The High Seas?"
Liang Cheng was a little surprised.
"The Four Islands Alliance is protected by a Barrier set up by the Penglai Sect. There are no Fierce Beasts in the usual sea regions, so they’re extremely safe."
He paused. "But Bibo City is a bit special. Just outside the city, there’s a short channel of the High Seas, and Fierce Beasts occasionally wander in. But it’s precisely because of this danger that you’re more likely to find Exotic Fish and Spiritual Objects."
"However, this trip is just to broaden your horizons. We’ll only be exploring the edges, not venturing deep into the High Seas."
Ye Zhiqiu’s expression turned serious. "After all, a place like the deep sea... even at my current True Gang Realm, I wouldn’t dare to venture in recklessly."
"Thank you, Senior Brother."
The Sea Ship was quite fast. After about an hour, the surrounding water grew darker, and a few lonely islands could be faintly seen in the distance.
"We’re here."
Ye Zhiqiu steered the Sea Ship toward one of the islands.
The island wasn’t large. It was covered in jagged, oddly shaped rocks, and the shore was lined with reefs. Under the shallow water, the shadows of swimming fish were faintly visible.
After everyone disembarked, Ye Zhiqiu said, "You’re free to go your separate ways. We’ll gather back here in two hours. Remember, do not go too deep, and send a signal immediately if you run into trouble."
Xiao Qingxue was the first to move. She leaped toward the west side of the island and vanished behind the rocks after a few bounds.
The other disciples also scattered, some in groups, some alone.
Liang Cheng was quite interested in the Demon Beasts and Fierce Beasts of the sea, but he was even more eager to see the so-called "Exotic Fish and Spiritual Objects."
He walked slowly along the coastline, his gaze sweeping over the crevices in the reefs and the tidal pools in the shallows.
After walking a hundred-odd zhang, he saw a rocky basin in a shaded area ahead. The water within was a deep blue, and a silver light glinted faintly from inside.
Liang Cheng moved closer to inspect it. The basin wasn’t large. Deep inside rested a small fish, about a chi long, that was golden-white with a single horn on its head. It was swimming slowly, emitting a faint Spiritual Qi.
"A Golden-Horned Spirit Fish?"
Liang Cheng recalled a record from the Scripture Collection Tower’s miscellaneous archives. This fish grew in waters where Spiritual Qi gathered. Its flesh was delectable and could also nourish the Meridians, benefiting any Martial Artist at the True Qi Realm or above.
He held his breath and slowly crouched down, forming a sword with the fingers of his right hand as he condensed True Essence at his fingertips.
The Golden-Horned Spirit Fish seemed to sense something. With a flick of its tail, it tried to dart into a crevice deeper in the rocks.
But Liang Cheng was faster!
A thread of True Essence shot from his fingertip, accurately piercing three cun into the fish’s body and instantly sealing the flow of its Qi Blood. The Golden-Horned Spirit Fish stiffened and floated to the surface.
Liang Cheng scooped it up and placed it in the Jade Box he carried with him.
First catch of the day.
He searched the vicinity for a while longer and found a few decently aged Spiritual Object seaweeds, which he also stored away. Noticing that the sky was growing dim and that more than half an hour had passed, he turned and headed back.
When he returned to the meeting point, five or six people were already there. Each had made some gains, but they mostly consisted of ordinary seafood, with the occasional Low Tier Spirit Grass.
Xiao Qingxue had also returned, holding a crimson Red Lobster, which was also a Spiritual Object.
"Miss Xiao is quite skilled."
someone praised.
Xiao Qingxue gave a faint nod and tossed the Red Lobster into a water tank on the ship.
Ye Zhiqiu was the last to return. He was carrying a striped sea snake as thick as an arm. Its head had been severed, and its gall bladder was slightly bulging, clearly containing Spiritual Qi.
"A Striped Profound Water Snake. My luck’s not bad."
Ye Zhiqiu said with a smile.
As everyone finished tallying their hauls, the atmosphere was relaxed.
Half an hour later, with everyone accounted for, they set sail for the return journey.
The Sea Ship pulled away from the island, heading back toward Bibo City.
Evening fell, and a thin mist rose from the surface of the sea.
Ye Zhiqiu stood at the prow, steering the ship. Liang Cheng sat meditating in the cabin to regulate his breath. Xiao Qingxue stood at the stern, her sword in her arms, her gaze sweeping over the sea.
Suddenly, her eyes narrowed.
"There’s something in the water."
Before her voice had even faded, the ship’s hull shuddered violently!
BOOM—!
A massive black shadow slammed into the ship from below. The Sea Ship rocked violently, and with an explosive crack of splintering wood, a hole was smashed clean through the hull!
Seawater surged in!
"Hold steady!"
Ye Zhiqiu roared, his True Gang erupting as he forcibly stabilized the ship’s hull while simultaneously striking the water’s surface with his palm.
BANG!
A splash erupted several zhang into the air, and a behemoth leaped halfway out of the water.
It was a gigantic, pitch-black fish nearly three zhang long. Its mouth was full of sharp teeth like Short Swords, its eyes were scarlet, and it radiated a violent, baleful aura.
"A Tier Four Fierce Beast, the Iron-toothed Black Shark!"
Ye Zhiqiu’s face changed. "What is this thing doing at the edge of the High Seas?!"
The Iron-toothed Black Shark locked its scarlet eyes on the Sea Ship, and with a flick of its massive tail, it rammed into them again!
The hull shook violently. Several of the True Qi Realm disciples lost their footing and nearly fell into the sea.
"Attack!"
A young man in blue robes shouted, and seven or eight disciples quickly gathered together. They linked their True Qi, barely managing to shield the ship’s hull.
