"Let me draw something for you," Chu Feng said.
"What are you going to draw?" Su Miaoke asked curiously.
At that moment, Chu Feng had already started drawing in Su Miaoke’s palm. He drew a rune on each of her hands.
"Honey, what is this?" Su Miaoke asked curiously.
"It’s a talisman. Don’t wipe it off; it’s good for you," Chu Feng said mysteriously.
Su Miaoke instantly had a million questions and began asking them nonstop.
However, no matter how she asked, Chu Feng simply wouldn’t tell her.
In the end, Su Miaoke had no choice but to give up.
The car drove on. But even after another two hours, they still hadn’t made it out of the mountains.
Suddenly, BANG!
The whole car jolted. Chu Feng and Su Miaoke were thrown into the air, their heads nearly hitting the roof.
"Ouch~" Su Miaoke cried out from the bump.
"I think we hit a huge pothole!" Chu Feng said with a frown, as the engine had also stalled.
Chu Feng then got out to check on the car. It was pitch-black and eerily quiet all around. The occasional strange cry of a bird or beast was enough to give anyone goosebumps.
"How is it, honey?" Su Miaoke asked.
"The car’s broken, and I don’t know how to fix it..." Chu Feng said helplessly.
’On a road this bad, the car’s been bouncing around for over four hours straight. It’d be a miracle if it *didn’t* break down.’
A military vehicle might have lasted much longer, but luxury cars like this one, despite being expensive, could sometimes be surprisingly fragile. The slightest bump or scrape could be enough to break them.
Chu Feng was speechless. It was rare enough for them to come to the mountains, yet they kept running into one bizarre thing after another.
"Huh? Honey, look! Is that a light over there?" Su Miaoke suddenly exclaimed in surprise.
Chu Feng glanced over without a word and walked toward it with Su Miaoke.
When they got closer, they discovered a hidden villa. Judging from its exterior and architectural style, the house was quite old and not of a modern design.
Outside was a large courtyard gate. Chu Feng rang the doorbell.
A moment later, a man in his fifties came out. He didn’t look like the owner of the house; he seemed more like a steward.
His clothes were rather old-fashioned. Anyone who didn’t know better might have thought they were filming a historical drama.
"May I help you two?" the man asked.
"Hello, our car broke down on the road. We’re in the middle of nowhere and have no place to stay. I was wondering if we could possibly stay here for one night? Don’t worry, we’ll pay," Su Miaoke asked.
She had been quite frightened at first. After all, what woman isn’t afraid of the dark, especially out in the wilderness, deep in the mountains?
So, upon seeing this person, Su Miaoke relaxed completely, her fear subsiding.
"Oh~ so you’re looking for a place to stay for the night? Of course. As it happens, our Master is charitable and generous, and he often enjoys inviting distinguished guests. Please, you two, come in," the steward-like man said with a smile.
Su Miaoke didn’t notice anything strange, but to Chu Feng, the man’s expression, his tone of voice, his facial features, his skin tone—everything about him was off.
To describe it in one word: unsettling!
Chu Feng didn’t say anything out loud, merely following in silence.
After they entered the courtyard, the steward led Su Miaoke and Chu Feng toward the house. Stepping into the main hall, they saw it was filled with people. Some were singing and dancing, while others feasted on delicious food.
But there was one thing: their clothes were completely different from modern attire. They were very retro, all dressed in historical costumes.
Su Miaoke didn’t think much of it. She just assumed they all enjoyed this particular style, which was why they dressed that way.
The steward explained Chu Feng and Su Miaoke’s situation to an elderly man in the hall, then said with a smile, "You two need a place for the night, correct? Not a problem. There is a spare bedroom next door where you can stay."
Chu Feng carefully observed the elderly man, who was the master of this estate—the "Master" the steward had mentioned.
He discovered that the man had zero Sin Value. In other words, he wasn’t a wicked person, nor had he ever done anything evil.
"All who arrive are guests. You two, come and try the food here. Enjoy the music and wine," the old man said heartily.
Su Miaoke’s eyes lit up as she looked at the wide variety of sumptuous dishes on the table, many of which she had never seen before.
"It all looks so delicious," Su Miaoke said, feeling her mouth begin to water.
"Don’t eat anything," Chu Feng whispered, stopping Su Miaoke.
"Huh? Why not?" Su Miaoke was very confused. Why couldn’t she eat the food here?
"Just trust me. Don’t ask any more questions," Chu Feng whispered.
Su Miaoke didn’t ask again. About an hour later, Chu Feng suddenly said, "Master, my wife and I have been traveling for a long time and are feeling a bit tired. Would it be possible for us to go rest now? Thank you for your hospitality."
"Of course. You, take our two distinguished guests to rest," the old man said with a smile, looking at Chu Feng.
Immediately, an old servant led Chu Feng and Su Miaoke out of the hall, toward a small room outside the main villa.
From the outside, the room didn’t look like much, but the interior was nicely decorated. It was very quaint, like something out of a historical TV drama.
"This family is interesting. All the decorations are in this old-fashioned style. By the way, honey, why didn’t you let me eat anything earlier?" Su Miaoke asked curiously.
"Don’t ask so many questions. You’ll understand tomorrow," Chu Feng said.
The real reason Chu Feng didn’t explain was that he was afraid of scaring Su Miaoke.
Su Miaoke didn’t bother asking any more and quickly fell into a deep sleep. Chu Feng sat by the bed, staying awake all night. He spent the time in Cultivation while sensing his surroundings.
In the middle of the night, he felt what seemed like many pairs of eyes staring at him, but he paid them no mind, as he sensed no malicious intent from them.
In the blink of an eye, morning arrived. Just as the sun was about to rise, the scenery around them began to fade away.
When the true surroundings came into view, Chu Feng wasn’t the least bit surprised.
Not far from him stood a large grave mound. Beside it were countless smaller graves packed closely together.
The area had clearly been abandoned for many years. Weeds grew everywhere, though some of the graves were still visible through the overgrowth.
"Hm? Honey, you’re awake?" At that moment, Su Miaoke groggily opened her eyes and saw Chu Feng sitting up.
"Wh-Where are we?" Su Miaoke was instantly shocked as she took in her surroundings.
