My Mother-in-Law Gifted Me a Building
Chapter 32: Life-taking Soul-Devouring ArrayAlthough that’s what Chu Feng said, inwardly he was a little nervous too.
If it weren’t for the inheritance from the God of Wealth, he probably wouldn’t have dared to come here at night.
He mentally connected with the Token the God of Wealth had given him. If anything happened, he could retaliate immediately.
The two of them, flashlights in hand, walked slowly toward the office building.
TAP! TAP! TAP!
In the dead silence of the night, the sound of their footsteps echoed outside the empty building.
Gusts of cold wind blew from the side, instantly giving Xiao Liu goosebumps.
"B-Brother Chu... w-what’s that sound? Whose footsteps are those? I think I heard someone crying right next to my ear..." Xiao Liu had only taken a few steps, but his legs were already trembling. He was utterly terrified.
"Don’t scare yourself. Those are our footsteps, and that’s just the wind. Don’t be afraid," Chu Feng said calmly.
Soon, the two of them entered the building. Once inside, they were met with another chilly gust of wind.
"It’s so cold," Xiao Liu said.
Chu Feng felt the chill as well. ’This is definitely strange.’
He immediately activated the Token given to him by the God of Wealth. A gentle power instantly enveloped him, and he could clearly see a faint golden light shimmering around his body.
Xiao Liu, however, didn’t seem to see it. But as he was bathed in the golden light, he immediately felt the chill recede.
"Huh? It’s gone. I’m not cold anymore," Xiao Liu said in surprise. At the same time, the fear in his heart vanished.
The two then resumed their patrol, checking every floor and every room without exception.
As they reached the seventeenth floor and neared Su Linsheng’s office, the Wealth God’s Order suddenly stirred.
A moment later, a piercing shriek rang out as a surge of blood-red light rushed toward them.
Xiao Liu instantly let out a terrified scream and ran for cover.
However, the Wealth God’s Order shot out a beam of golden light, instantly dispersing the blood-red glow.
The piercing shriek faded away as the crimson light vanished completely.
Some information appeared on the Wealth God’s Order.
"Life-taking Soul-Devouring Array!" Chu Feng’s brows furrowed tightly.
"Let’s go." Chu Feng pulled Xiao Liu to his feet; the younger man’s legs had completely given out.
By the time they reached the ground floor, Xiao Liu had finally regained his senses.
"Brother Chu, I just saw a ghost! A ghost with a huge, blood-red face!" Xiao Liu said, his face deathly pale.
"You must have been seeing things. How come I didn’t see anything? You were the only one over there, screaming your head off," Chu Feng said. He didn’t want Xiao Liu to believe what he’d just seen was real.
"You didn’t see it, Brother Chu?" Xiao Liu asked, his eyes wide with shock.
"No. Now, cut the crap and go find me two shovels," Chu Feng told Xiao Liu.
"What do you need shovels for? They’re in the storage room in the office building... but it’s too dark in there. I don’t dare go..." Xiao Liu asked, his face growing even paler as he shook his head frantically.
"You’re a young guy, for goodness’ sake. How can you be such a coward? Are you even a man? You have less guts than a woman," Chu Feng said, exasperated.
"Brother Chu, how can you say that! Of course I’m a man! Who says I have less guts than a woman? Fine, I’ll go!" Xiao Liu suddenly puffed out his chest. Mustering his courage, he grabbed a flashlight and marched back into the office building alone.
He came sprinting out, though. He was moving so fast that anyone watching would have thought a ghost was hot on his heels.
"Slow down! Don’t trip and knock your front teeth out," Chu Feng called out.
Once they had the shovels, Chu Feng led Xiao Liu to the greenbelt on the north side of the building.
In the middle of the greenbelt stood a large tree.
"Right here. Dig!" Chu Feng ordered, pointing at the base of the tree.
"Dig?" Xiao Liu looked scared. "Brother Chu, if we start digging up the landscaping, Captain Liu will have our heads."
"Enough talk. I told you to dig, so dig. I’ll take responsibility for any trouble," Chu Feng said, then drove his shovel straight into the ground.
Hearing this, Xiao Liu steeled his resolve and began to dig as well.
After digging for a few minutes, they uncovered something yellow.
Chu Feng carefully lifted it out. It was a wooden box wrapped in yellow cloth.
The yellow cloth was covered in strange, blood-red patterns that were incredibly unsettling to look at.
"Whoa, what kind of person buries something like this here? You don’t think it’s... someone’s urn, do you?" Xiao Liu asked nervously, swallowing hard.
Chu Feng pressed his index and middle fingers together and, with a peculiar motion, traced some kind of symbol over the cloth-wrapped box.
He then unwrapped the yellow cloth.
Once the cloth was removed, it revealed a blood-red box. The patterns etched onto it were terrifying to behold.
"Brother Chu, it doesn’t actually contain... human remains, does it?" Xiao Liu asked fearfully.
Chu Feng ignored him. He placed the box on the ground and carefully opened it.
The instant he opened it, Chu Feng felt a cloud of black miasma burst out.
But he was prepared. With a sweep of the yellow cloth that had covered the box, he trapped the black miasma within it.
"A hand! It’s a human hand!" Xiao Liu shone his flashlight into the box and was so frightened he nearly wet his pants.
Inside the wooden box were the bones of a human hand!
"So this is what’s been causing all the trouble!" Chu Feng exclaimed.
"Come on, there’s one more spot." Chu Feng picked up the wooden box and, pulling the still-shaken Xiao Liu along, headed to a small corner to the southwest.
"Dig!" Chu Feng ordered.
Bathed in the light radiating from the Wealth God’s Order, Xiao Liu felt his courage return, and his fear completely vanished.
Before long, they dug up another wooden box.
It was identical to the first. Chu Feng opened it with the same movements as before, tossed the yellow cloth inside, and set it ablaze with a lighter.
As he silently chanted a Mantra, the flames instantly roared to life, engulfing the wooden box.
Within the flames, the faint silhouette of a person seemed to flicker. Xiao Liu was too terrified to make a sound, able only to stare wide-eyed.
In just a few moments, the wooden box was reduced to ash.
And with that, the sinister, cold wind around them died down.
"The wind stopped?" Xiao Liu said in astonishment.
"It’s over now." Chu Feng let out a sigh of relief. In truth, he had been just as nervous.
It was his first time using the Wealth God’s Order in this way, not to mention his first time seeing human bones. It would have been a lie to say he wasn’t afraid.
But now, everything was resolved.
"Brother Chu, what the hell was all that about?" Xiao Liu burst out angrily. "What kind of bastard would bury something like that here? I’m going to check the security footage. If I find out who did it, I’ll kill them!"
"Don’t waste your time," Chu Feng said. "He picked places where no one ever goes. There are no cameras there; you won’t find anything."
「Meanwhile, in a luxurious villa somewhere in Beihai City, a furious roar echoed out!」
"You’re courting death!"
