Inside the villa were five women and two men. One of the men was very short, and his skin had the ashen-gray color of a corpse.
The roar had come from this short man.
"Master Xu, what is it?" a bald, middle-aged man next to him asked as he stood up.
The middle-aged man had a large potbelly and a brutish face. He didn’t look like a good person at all—the kind who could make children cry just by looking at them.
"Someone from the Su Group actually broke my Life-taking Soul-Devouring Array!" the short man said, his face dark. His expression was as terrifying as a ghost’s.
"The Su Group? Impossible, right?" the bald man asked.
"It’s fine," the short man said. "So what if the Su Group broke the Life-taking Soul-Devouring Array? I’ll still do what I promised you. I won’t stop unless Su Linsheng agrees to sell his company."
"Then I’ll have to trouble you, Master. By the way, I got word today that Su Linsheng’s daughter is back. I’ll add another five million if you help me get that bitch killed!" the bald man said viciously.
"It can be done," the short man said, licking the corner of his mouth with a savage grin. "But I’ve seen her picture. She’s gorgeous. Why kill her?"
"That bitch hit my sister, so she has to die!" the bald man said.
"No problem," the short man said with a cruel laugh. "But before she dies, I’d like to... have some fun with her. It’s not every day you find a beauty like that."
"Do whatever you want," the bald man said. "All I care about is that she ends up dead."
Meanwhile, Chu Feng’s father-in-law, Su Linsheng, finished a business dinner and was getting ready to head home.
Not long after Su Linsheng’s car pulled away, a dump truck came barreling toward it from the opposite direction.
Something was wrong with the dump truck—it seemed its brakes had failed—and it was heading straight for Su Linsheng’s car.
Seeing this, the driver frantically yanked the steering wheel to get out of the way.
But the dump truck was too close, and since Su Linsheng’s car had only just started moving, there wasn’t enough time to react.
BANG!
The two vehicles collided, and the airbags deployed.
What Su Linsheng didn’t know was that at that exact moment, the talisman paper in his inner coat pocket flashed with light, enveloping him.
The next moment, the dump truck tipped over, crashing down right on top of Su Linsheng’s car.
Gasps of alarm erupted from onlookers. The world went black for Su Linsheng, and he passed out.
When he opened his eyes again, he found himself lying in an ambulance with an oxygen mask on his face.
After Su Linsheng came to, the nurse beside him immediately started asking him questions.
After a brief examination, they found that Su Linsheng wasn’t seriously injured—just a minor scrape on his forehead.
Su Linsheng then remembered what Chu Feng had told him earlier in the day—that there was a darkness between his eyebrows.
So he reached into his inner pocket for the talisman paper, only for his fingers to come away covered in ash.
The talisman paper was gone.
In that moment, Su Linsheng understood: Chu Feng’s talisman paper had saved him from this disaster.
He pulled out his phone and called Su Miaoke.
"Miaoke, I was in a car accident," Su Linsheng said. "I’m on my way to First Hospital now."
"What? Dad, you were in an accident?" Su Miaoke said, her voice filled with worry and urgency. "Are you okay? I’m on my way now."
"I’m fine," Su Linsheng said, sounding like a man who had just escaped death’s clutches. "The talisman Chu Feng gave me... it turned to ash. It must have been what saved me from the disaster."
"By the way, don’t tell your mother," Su Linsheng instructed. "Don’t let her find out, you’ll only make her worry. I’m going to the hospital for a full check-up, and if everything is okay, I’ll head straight home."
Su Miaoke nodded. "Okay, I’ll take care of Mom. Dad, call me right away if anything happens."
After hanging up, Su Miaoke quickly called her mother to cover for her father, then fell into deep thought.
She recalled the scene of Chu Feng drawing the talisman in her office earlier that day, and couldn’t help but marvel.
’It was a good thing Chu Feng drew that talisman. Otherwise, my dad would’ve died today.’
This only made Su Miaoke more curious about Chu Feng. She now felt that he had far too many secrets.
She dialed Chu Feng’s number.
At that moment, Chu Feng had just finished burning the two boxes of bones.
"Miaoke, what’s wrong? Is everything okay?" Chu Feng asked, confused, as he answered the phone. He wondered why she would be calling him at this hour.
"Did anything... happen at the company?" Su Miaoke asked tentatively.
"No, nothing happened," Chu Feng said. "I just resolved the issue at the office."
"Chu Feng... thank you!" Su Miaoke said, her voice filled with sincerity.
"Why are you thanking me?" Chu Feng was baffled.
"The talisman paper you drew for my dad... it disintegrated," Su Miaoke said. "It saved him from a disaster."
She briefly explained to Chu Feng what had happened to Su Linsheng.
"The important thing is that he’s okay," Chu Feng said. "You should get some rest tonight. We can deal with everything else tomorrow."
"Okay," Su Miaoke said softly. "And... you don’t have to work the night shift anymore."
"I’m a company employee, so I have to follow the schedule," Chu Feng said. "I can’t get special treatment."
The two then hung up.
The rest of the night passed without incident. Chu Feng sat in the security office with his eyes closed, appearing to rest, but he was actually practicing his Cultivation according to the Qi Cultivation Technique.
Meanwhile, Xiao Liu played video games all night long. According to him, after the scare he’d had, gaming was the only way to soothe his terrified soul.
At eight in the morning, Liu Yong arrived to take over the shift. He looked a little surprised to find the two of them completely fine.
"You guys were fine last night?" Liu Yong asked curiously.
"Yeah, we’re fine. Why would anything happen?" Xiao Liu mumbled, his eyes bleary with sleep as he lay slumped over the desk.
Just then, Su Miaoke drove up to the company, with large, dark circles under her eyes.
"President Su!" Liu Yong and Xiao Liu immediately snapped to attention, standing ramrod straight and looking very respectful.
"Chu Feng, come to my office." With that, Su Miaoke drove past them and into the company parking area.
When he got to Su Miaoke’s office, Chu Feng saw the dark circles under her eyes and asked, "You didn’t sleep last night?"
"No," Su Miaoke said unhappily. "With everything that’s happened, how could I sleep? I’m just thankful my dad only suffered minor injuries."
"Chu Feng, these incidents weren’t just accidents, were they?" Su Miaoke asked. "Is someone doing this on purpose?"
"It’s deliberate," Chu Feng said. "Someone is resorting to wicked methods."
"That’s despicable," Su Miaoke said, her face etched with worry. "My dad only just took over the company. He shouldn’t have made any enemies."
Chu Feng sighed. "I’m not sure who it is. Have the security guards keep an eye out for anyone suspicious."
