My Online Girlfriend Has a Twin Sister
Chapter 440 - 291: A Fine Cabbage Spoiled by the Same Pig (Part 2)"This is authentic Huangshan Maofeng Tea." Mr. Chen pushed up his glasses and remarked with some surprise upon seeing the tea caddy.
"The Maofeng?"
"Yes, it’s one of the most famous teas in all of Huaxia." Mr. Chen’s interest was piqued. He twisted open the caddy, removed the outer packaging to look inside, and took a light sniff. "That’s right, a fine tea from the new season. Covered in white down, with bud tips as sharp as an awn. The leaves are slightly curled, like a sparrow’s tongue, with exposed silver hairs as its unique trademark. During the Guangxu Period, it was a tribute tea, unavailable to the common person."
"It’s that special? You know so much, sir." Jiangg Yao looked puzzled for a moment before offering a sincere compliment. "I don’t know much about tea. I just think it tastes very fragrant, and I usually only try a bit when my sister brews it."
"I only know a thing or two."
Mr. Chen was quite pleased by the compliment. He often boasted to his peers about his knowledge of tea. He did have a few boxes of fine tea at home, all of them annual gifts from Jiang Zhengfeng.
Those old teachers, whenever they came to Chen Yuan’s house for a game of chess, knew he had good tea and would often go searching for it, determined to drink every last bit.
After all, truly fine tea isn’t something money can buy.
Mr. Chen couldn’t bear to bring it out for them. Only on rare occasions, when he was in exceptionally high spirits, would he share it with one or two close friends. They would set up a small table in the courtyard, discussing matters while drinking tea and leisurely enjoying the sky filled with the evening glow.
...
"Lunch is ready. Everyone wash your hands, it’s time to eat!" Suddenly, Jiangg Ning emerged from the kitchen, carrying two exquisite plates and calling out in a soft voice.
"Finally, it’s time to eat." Chen Yuan got up from the sofa. "I’m starving."
They had been smelling the delicious aromas for a while now. Even those who hadn’t been very hungry to begin with were now ravenous, unable to stop themselves from glancing toward the kitchen.
Jiangg Ning’s culinary skill was self-evident, and she was naturally talented besides. If Chen Yuan had paid close attention, he would have noticed just how seriously Jiangg Ning approached the act of cooking.
Because she was so serious and meticulous, she learned new dishes with incredible speed. To say it was second nature to her would be no exaggeration.
"Ningning," Liu He said as she walked over. The sight of a table laden with a dazzling spread of dishes left her feeling a bit overwhelmed by the gesture. She said warmly, "We’ve made you go to so much trouble for our visit. By all rights, we should have been the ones preparing a meal and having you two sisters over."
She truly adored Jiangg Ning.
’This girl, from such a good family and with such excellent academic credentials, didn’t have a single arrogant or spoiled bone in her body. Just looking at this table of food, you could tell how much care she put into it. Plus, she’s gorgeous. From any perspective, the girlfriend Chen Yuan found was simply impeccable.’
She suddenly felt a pang of self-reproach.
’How could two wonderful girls like this both have chosen her son? It made her feel terribly sorry for the two sisters...’
"You’re our elders, after all. Besides, one meal is no trouble. If it were possible... I wouldn’t mind cooking for you and Mr. Chen a few more times," Jiangg Ning said with a slight blush.
"How could we let you do that! Oh, Ningning, I really don’t know what to say. We’ll have plenty of opportunities in the future." Liu He smiled so widely the crow’s feet at the corners of her eyes became visible. "There’s plenty of time ahead of us."
Everyone understood the implication behind her words.
"That’s right. Your auntie is a great cook, too. You and Yaoyao can come play at our house next time," Mr. Chen added with a wide smile.
"Thank you, sir." Jiangg Yao, who had been a bit dejected, instantly brightened, the corners of her eyes curving into a smile.
Only Chen Yuan acted as if he hadn’t heard a thing.
"Braised prawns, braised abalone, red-cooked pork... and what kind of steamed fish is this? It looks amazing!" he exclaimed.
"It’s shad, a famous dish in Mingzhu City."
Everyone sat down around the dining table. The three juniors held their chopsticks, politely waiting for Mr. Chen and Liu He to take the first bite—a sign of a good upbringing.
"Go on and eat, you three. Don’t stand on ceremony."
Seeing this gesture, Liu He’s eyes filled with even more fondness.
’Every mother who doesn’t have a daughter imagines what it would be like. If she had one, how much of a comfort her sweet girl would be.’
’As her thoughts shifted, an idea suddenly struck her. Her son would choose one of the sisters, so maybe she could ask the other to be her goddaughter. It could be a stopgap measure. Otherwise, if a fight broke out between them, someone would inevitably get hurt, and it would be awful if they had a falling out.’
...
The atmosphere at the dinner table was warm and cheerful, with seemingly endless topics of conversation.
The two elders couldn’t stop praising the sisters’ cooking, and it wasn’t mere politeness—it was genuine admiration.
"Ningning, I hope you don’t mind my asking, but where did you do your master’s degree? A university like Landa must have very high academic standards for its faculty," Liu He asked curiously.
"I have a double major from Yale University, ma’am. Ordinarily, I wouldn’t be qualified to teach at a top-tier institution like Lanjing University, but I was fortunate enough to publish a few papers in leading journals. On top of that, my mother holds a position on the Landa University board and has donated to some projects in the past, so..."
"Ah... I see."
Liu He glanced back at Mr. Chen, and they exchanged a look of silent astonishment.
’Yale University is one of the top universities in the entire world. That kind of academic background really wasn’t something an ordinary person could attain.’
’Viewed this way, the sisters’ family background was also excellent. They were true ladies from a prominent family; no wonder they were so polite.’
’As pleased as Liu He was, she also felt a sense of pressure. Meeting the future in-laws would certainly be a daunting affair. People often said that residents of Mingzhu City were quite exclusionary, though she had only heard that through rumors and didn’t know if it was true.’
’She and her husband were just ordinary teachers from a small county.’
’Thankfully, however, they had Jiang Zhengfeng to back them up in that respect, which was enough to put her mind at ease.’
