My Overpowered Bunny Girls

Chapter 125: The Fallen Kingdom (2)

"Contact! Ceiling! Incoming!"

Three Wyverns detached from the pitch-black ceiling and plummeted like living spears. They were lean and vicious, their scales the color of cooling magma, their barbed tails dripping with corrosive venom.

Mirko’s [Impenetrable Fortress] caught the lead Wyvern mid-dive. The beast bounced off the emerald barrier with a shriek of breaking cartilage, and Mirko’s counter-stroke cleanly severed its right wing, sending it crashing violently into the cavern wall. The second Wyvern bypassed the vanguard, diving straight for Elise, but the Frost Golem simply reached up and caught it by the throat. CRUNCH. The beast crumpled.

The third Wyvern targeted a young Silver Drake tank whose attention was fixed on the tunnel ahead. He never saw the dive.

Before the beast could strike, a silver streak of light punched cleanly through its left eye. Thwip. The Wyvern went limp instantly, its massive body tumbling past the tank and crashing heavily onto the stone.

The Silver Drake tank flinched, looking back at Nathan in shock. "Thanks."

"Keep your eyes moving," Nathan said, nocking another arrow. "They hunt in packs."

The Wyvern nests were purged methodically. Dillon and Cloudy were terrifying in the enclosed spaces—Cloudy’s static chained through the narrow corridors, electrocuting entire flocks before they could take flight. Elise’s [Glacial Lance] flash-frozen entire nesting chambers. Garrett shattered the frozen remains, while Kuro marked the ambushes before they could be sprung.

Floor 3 erupted into a cavernous expanse—a terrestrial drake hatchery. The ceiling was lost to the dark, the floor littered with the crushed bones of failed prey and massive, shed scales.

Guarding the exit, their heavy, interlocking armor gleaming in the dim light, was a wall of Drakes.

They were massive—easily twenty feet from snout to tail, built entirely of dense muscle and natural armor. They didn’t possess wings, but they didn’t need them. They were living, breathing siege engines, capable of exhaling cones of fire hot enough to melt stone.

"Vanguard! Lock the line and push!" Torren’s voice boomed.

The eight parties reassembled into a single, massive phalanx. Silver Drake absorbed the initial, earth-shaking charges. Red Dragon countered the fire breath with their own pyromancy. Golden Hawk systematically blinded the beasts from afar.

Nathan watched as Derek’s Salamander took a direct, point-blank hit from a Drake’s fire breath. The flames washed over the summon, its scales glowing a dangerous, brilliant white-hot. For a second, Nathan thought the creature’s core would shatter. But it held. The Salamander unhinged its jaw and retaliated—a concentrated, hyper-dense beam of crimson heat that punched directly down the Drake’s open throat, violently detonating its internal core.

Derek didn’t flinch from the blinding flash. He smoothly directed his party into the newly opened gap, his voice perfectly calm as the massive beast collapsed at his feet. The pale scar on his face caught the golden light. He was fighting with the cold, unyielding resolve of a man who had already survived his own death, and had nothing left to fear.

He fights like a man with something to prove, Kuro observed through the link. But not to us. To himself.

Then let him prove it.

Under the relentless, combined assault, the final Drake fell. Floor 3 was clear.

Floor 4 was the broken heart of Drak’thar itself.

The portal expelled them into the ruins of an ancient, draconic metropolis. Collapsed skyscrapers of obsidian and gold lined streets buried entirely in ash. Massive, weathered statues of long-dead kings stood at the intersections. The churning red sky felt suffocatingly close here, and the Tower’s heartbeat was a physical pressure against their eardrums.

Patrolling the ruined airspace were the Dragon Knights—elite Lizardmen riding armored Wyverns, wielding lances wreathed in dark, corrosive fire. They utilized the ruined architecture flawlessly, diving from behind collapsed towers to strike the combined force and retreating before a counterattack could be mounted.

"Scatter!" Seraphine roared over the comms. "Do not cluster! They are targeting grouped formations with splash damage!"

The army fractured, spilling into the ruins. The battlefield instantly devolved into a hundred isolated skirmishes. Nathan’s party ducked into the hollowed-out shell of a collapsed temple, using the remaining pillars for cover.

"Contact! Three Knights, vectoring from the east!" Nathan’s [Hunter’s Insight] painted their trajectories through the stone. "Dillon, Cloudy—rip them out of the sky! Mirko, Golem—execute them when they hit the dirt! Elise, freeze the airspace!"

Cloudy launched like a missile, her static discharge arcing violently across the lead wyvern’s wings. The beast seized, its rider fighting desperately to maintain altitude. Dillon chained [Flash Step] directly above the second Knight. [Thunder Edge] fell. KRAK-BOOOOOM. The lightning carved completely through the rider’s dark armor. The Knight plummeted, and Mirko was waiting, her heavy blade taking his head before his body even settled into the ash.

The third Knight folded its wings, diving straight for Elise. The Frost Golem stepped into the flight path, winding up a massive crystalline fist and burying it into the wyvern’s snout. CRUNCH. The beast’s neck snapped backward. As it crashed, Elise’s [Glacial Lance] cleanly impaled the rider.

But the Elite Class was taking its toll. Across the ruins, Nathan watched a Silver Drake vanguard take a wyvern’s tail whip directly to the chest. The kinetic force launched the Climber through a solid stone wall. His emergency extraction crystal triggered instantly—a blinding flash of silver light pulling him to safety before the rubble could crush him. Barely fifty yards away, a Red Dragon fire elemental was violently shattered by a Knight’s dark lance, dissolving into a shower of useless sparks.

"Casualties are mounting!" Seraphine’s voice cracked through the crystal. "Do not let them pin us down! Push to the gate!"

Nathan fought shoulder-to-shoulder with Derek’s team through the ruins, the two parties seamlessly covering each other’s blind spots. Derek’s Salamander sanitized the sky; Mirko and the Golem held the streets. Kuro marked the targets, and Nathan’s arrows reliably brought them down.

By the time they reached the far end of the city, the ash was soaked, but Floor 4 was clear.

Floor 5 was the Gate of Kings.

A monolithic barrier of pure obsidian and gold sealed the path forward, heavily embossed with the visages of roaring dragons. Waiting in the wide, black-stone courtyard before it was the Gate’s final defense.

Two massive Drake Commanders flanked the entrance. But sitting dead center, mounted atop a heavily armored wyvern twice the size of the others, was the Dragon Knight Champion.

The Champion was a terrifying specimen—a hulking, scarred Lizardman dripping with magic. His dark lance pulsed in time with the Tower’s heartbeat. When he spoke, the sound was the grinding of tectonic plates and the hiss of an open furnace.

"You walk into your own graveyard," the Champion rumbled, leveling his lance. "You will go no further."

"Combined force!" Seraphine commanded. "Break the mount! Ground the Champion and we overwhelm him!"

The Champion’s wyvern inhaled and unleashed a devastating cone of dark fire, forcing the allied shield wall to violently scatter. The Champion spurred his mount forward, his lance thrusting straight through a Red Dragon tank’s heavy shield, piercing the metal and the shoulder beneath. The Climber screamed, flashing into silver light a microsecond later as his crystal pulled him out.

Nathan’s party moved in perfect synchronization with Goldcrest. "Mirko! Salamander! Hold his attention! Elise, Silver Drake mages—shatter the aerodynamics! Ground the beast!"

Mirko and Derek’s Salamander surged forward. [Impenetrable Fortress] absorbed a brutal lance strike, the green magic violently flickering under the dark fire. Seizing the opening, the Salamander engulfed the Champion’s left flank in blistering heat, forcing the beast to blindly pivot.

"Now! Elise!"

Aurora’s Heart blazed with the light of the frozen north. [Glacial Lance] materialized, massive and hyper-dense. She threw it. CRRRRACK. The spear punched straight through the wyvern’s right wing membrane, the deep freeze instantly shattering the fragile bone structure. The Silver Drake mages followed up flawlessly, a volley of ice spells encasing the left wing.

The wyvern shrieked, its flight completely destabilized, and crashed heavily into the courtyard.

Before the Champion could recover, Kuro materialized directly on his armored back. [Blind] wrapped his yellow eyes in suffocating shadow. As he roared and blindly thrashed, [Assassinate] triggered. Shink-Shink. Both daggers sank into the base of his spine.

Dillon capitalized, blinking into existence directly above the downed wyvern. [Thunder Edge] fell. KRAK-BOOOOOM. The lightning severed the beast’s spinal cord, killing the mount instantly.

Forced to fight on foot, the Champion was a cornered apex predator, his dark lance sweeping in desperate, lethal arcs. Garrett and Red locked down his front, Volcan’s thermal pulses cracking the ancient armor with every parry, while the combined force rapidly closed the net. Silver Drake. Red Dragon. Golden Hawk. Goldcrest. Celestial Peak.

Nathan drew Moonlight back to his cheek.

He held the [Focus Shot] for a full sixty seconds. The Capacitor dumped its charge. The Leyline Ring burned. The compression charms Vex had given him flared with a brilliant, aggressive blue light, violently force-feeding the mana into the silver arrowhead until it was a blinding, miniature star.

He released. THWOOOOOOOOOM.

The arrow erased the distance. It punched cleanly through the Champion’s heavily armored chest, severed his spine, and slammed into the Gate of Kings behind him with the force of a siege engine.

The Champion dropped his lance. He fell heavily to his knees, and then collapsed entirely.

With a deafening, groaning shudder, the Gate of Kings slowly swung inward. Floor 6 awaited.

The combined force stood catching their breath in the courtyard. They had taken hits—several extractions, shattered summons, and deep exhaustion—but they had broken through five consecutive floors of Elite Class resistance.

Marshal Vane’s voice crackled through the comms. "Primary assault group—Celestial Peak, Silver Drake, Red Dragon, Goldcrest. You are clear to push the central artery. Support parties, fan out. Secure the side chambers and lock down the flanks. Maintain comms. If a party goes dark, the vanguard needs to know immediately."

Seraphine nodded to Nathan, her silver armor stained with ash. "Silver Drake takes point. Our shield wall is the thickest."

Torren wiped sweat from his brow, hefting his battleaxe. "Red Dragon takes the midline. Fire support is locked and loaded."

Derek stepped up, meeting Nathan’s eyes. "Goldcrest holds the left flank. We’ve got the anti-air covered."

Nathan looked at his own team. Garrett leaning on Volcan. Dillon wiping his katana. Elise standing tall behind Aurora’s Heart. Mirko radiating unyielding pride, and Kuro silently watching from his shoulder.

"Celestial Peak secures the right flank," Nathan said, his voice carrying the calm authority of a man who had seen the bottom of the abyss and climbed his way out. "We will provide tactical coordination. [Hunter’s Insight] will give us advance warning of all enemy vectors."

The parties fell into their designated formations. The central path beyond the Gate descended deep into the oppressive darkness of the monolith, its golden veins pulsing brightly against the black stone. The heartbeat was deafening now.

Somewhere far below, Vorlagrath was waiting.

"Let’s move," Nathan said.

The primary assault group stepped into the dark, marching toward the heart of the dragon.
