The officer didn’t buy it. People usually didn’t have a recommendation letter when first getting into the academy, imagine having one from a S-rank Hunter.
"Don’t lie to me, kid," the officer said, moving toward me and grabbing my collar, "You’ll suffer the consequences of doing it. No fucking way Lion Heart gave you a recommendation letter."
I took the letter from my bag and handed it over to the officer. He picked it up, already frowning as he read the letter.
The Lion Heart official seal was there to make sure the letter was authentic. Sure thing, the officer believed I faked the seal.
"This is impossible," the officer said, "Look at this, everyone."
Everyone who was taking the exam was staring at me. I disliked the feeling of being watched by so many people. Some were whispering and laughing at me.
Lion Heart knew that would happen when I showed the letter. That’s why he gave me his personal number.
"I can call him," I said, "have you ever talked to him before?"
"Yes, but don’t even waste your time. I know you don’t have it."
That fucking officer kept doubting things. It was getting on my nerves. I picked up my phone, called Leo and gave him the phone.
"Talk to him, then."
The officer picked up the phone. I stood there, watching his expressions change as Lion Heart told him things through the phone. I don’t know what they talked about, but the officer changed his manners after turning off the phone and giving it back to me. He was much more respectful.
"I’m sorry for doubting you had it," he said, "You don’t need to take the test, you’re already in."
I skipped the fucking entrance test with the recommendation letter. I wasn’t expecting it to be that effective.
A guard came toward me and led the way into the academy, showing me everything inside and showing me where I would be sleeping.
As I walked with him, I turned my head around to look at all the others who were taking the test. Most had envious looks toward me, angry looks too. Damn it. It was nice to avoid the test, but those people will certainly get on my feet.
The guard showing me the academy’s interior asked me a question.
"How is he?"
"Huh? Who?"
"Lion Heart, of course. Is he powerful?"
The guard was a fan of Lion Heart, just like many people. He was much different in person when compared to what I saw on the TV, but I didn’t say that.
"He looks the same as on the TV. I could barely breathe around him, so much power."
"He’s awesome, right? Haha."
I laughed with him. If the new students were angry with him, I would at least befriend a guard or two. That could be useful in the future.
Speaking of the students, I saw quite a few inside the academy. They were not new students but older ones, either in their second or third year. No one came to speak with us, of course. They were busy doing something else, and no one knew me. But I saw some whispering, probably wondering who I was.
The guard showed me the academy. It had a tall fence around it, with a protective barrier made of who knows what.
Inside, there were different buildings scattered around. The big one was where all the classrooms were. The theoretical classes were held there. It was also where the administration crew stayed during the day. If I wanted to speak with the principal, that’s where I would find him.
The guard pointed at all the locations for me, explaining what they were. He was really trying to help as much as he could.
"That’s the gymnasium. You can find training rooms inside, and the practical classes are held there. Learning how to fight and control your ability is the most important thing for a hunter," the guard explained to me.
We eventually reached the dorms. Not many students were there at that moment due to classes. I only saw a few students there. I tried to be friendly, waving at them. Some waved back, while others ignored me completely.
The guard didn’t know my room number. It had yet to be assigned.
"They’ll let you know later," he said, "the test is the priority right now."
The guard’s phone rang inside his pocket. He picked it up and read a message. I had no idea what that was about.
"It seems they want you to take another type of test, even with your recommendation letter," the guard said, "follow me, please."
A special test. I didn’t like where that was going. We followed the cobblestone pathway across the academy, going straight to the gymnasium that the guard talked about.
I spotted lots of students inside. They had two stars on their uniforms, so it meant they were from the second year.
They were practicing fights among each other. A man was watching them. It should be the teacher responsible for those students.
I thought we would go there with him, but the guard asked me to follow him. We passed through the main gymnasium area, reaching the back area where the private practice rooms were.
"You must be curious about who’s testing you," the guard said as he looked at me, "Well, it’s the principal."
"What!?"
Sure, the thought had crossed my mind for a second, but that was just it. A thought, an impossible idea that shouldn’t happen to me. But it was happening. The principal wanted to test me.
Would I pass? What type of test did he have in mind? I had so many questions in my head, and no answers for them. I tried to ask the guard about it, but he didn’t know either.
"It’s been a long time since the principal tested someone personally, so I have no idea how things will unfold. But be prepared, his tests aren’t easy."
We stopped in front of a door leading to one of the private training rooms. This one was special, only certain individuals within the academy had access. The principal was one of them.
"He’s inside. You can go in."
I opened the door, and a man was sitting in the middle of the room with his eyes closed.
