This man had a different aura around him. I could tell he was much more powerful than all the ordinary guards and officers I had spotted along the way.

It made sense, of course. You couldn’t be the principal if you were ordinary.

He slowly opened his eyes and stared directly at me. I felt like he could see through everything, including all my secrets.

"Are you Vincent?" the principal said, still not moving.

"Yes, I am, sir."

I had to be respectful. What if the principal was the angry type? I had no idea who he was or what his personality was like. It was better to be safe and act respectful than suffer the consequences of my actions.

"They said you had a recommendation letter from Leo. Is that true? Can I see it?"

The recommendation letter was inside my pocket. I took it out and gave it to him. He read it carefully without muttering a word. I waited.

He finished reading it and gave it back to me, yet he didn’t say a word. Neither did I. The principal was thinking about something.

"Where did you meet him? And why did he give you this?"

In that situation, lying wasn’t a good idea. I would be staying at the academy for a while, so being on good terms with the principal was more than necessary.

"I met him in his shop. I mean, I’m not sure if it’s truly his shop or not."

"It is."

"...Right. I sold him a few things, and we talked about my power. He said I could become someone powerful in the future and that my ability would be useful."

The principal took out his phone to check something.

"I have your file here," he said. "Pocket dimension? You can store items inside? Is that all it can do?"

"No, sir," I said. "I can store attacks inside as well and use them against my enemies. I have no idea how much power I can store, though. And I can use my dimension cube for attack and defense."

There was no point in lying to him about my ability. I would have to use my powers inside the academy during lessons, training fights, and missions, so lying wouldn’t do me any good.

But I didn’t tell him that I could store living things inside my pocket dimension, and I said nothing about the slime. That was my secret to keep.

"Oh? Interesting."

The principal got up.

"Can you show me your attacks?" he said.

He didn’t want to attack me, which made sense. Even if he held back, his attacks would be much stronger than anything I could handle. So it was up to me to attack him using my cube.

Now that my power had improved in rank and unlocked new ways for me to use it, I could shapeshift the cube into different things during a fight.

This would be my first time testing it, and who better to test it against than the principal?

I focused my mind, using my will to summon the metallic cube. It floated beside me, and I saw curiosity on the principal’s face.

Why were both he and Leo, a powerful hunter, so curious about my powers? I had always thought my power was utter shit. Had I missed something? Why were they acting like that?

What wasn’t I seeing?

Anyway, I tried using my new power and focused my mind on the cube. It started changing shape.

It was hard. Much harder than I expected. My control over my own powers was clearly lacking.

But the cube changed, increasing in size and turning into a sword. That was the first shape I thought of.

Then it flew directly toward the principal, faster than I expected.

However, to the principal, the attack wasn’t fast at all. He moved his hand, or rather, a single finger, and placed it in front of the sword.

He blocked it.

The sword was like paper to him. No cuts, nothing. I tried to push it farther, controlling it with my mind.

Then, a drop of blood appeared.

The sword had managed to pierce his skin. Not by much, but enough to draw a drop of blood.

I felt bad about it, wishing my power was stronger. But the principal looked shocked. I noticed that.

"You passed my test," he said. "Not everyone can hurt me like this. Would you become my personal disciple? I don’t have much time to spare, but I can give you a few extra lessons when I’m available."

That was fucking huge. As far as I knew, the principal had never taken any disciples.

But while it was exciting, it was also quite scary. Was he doing that only because I had hurt him, or because of the nature of my powers?

I wasn’t naive. Something was going on, and I had to find out what. First Lion Heart, an S-Rank Hunter, helped me out, and now the principal of one of the most prestigious hunter academies wanted me as his disciple? Believing in fairy tales wasn’t something I did often.

"So? What do you say? I won’t ask again."

The principal was waiting for my answer. My mind was so preoccupied with everything that I forgot to reply. Obviously, I said yes.

If the principal had some shady plan, whether I became his disciple or not wouldn’t matter. I was inside his academy, so he could do whatever he wanted...

"I accept," I said. "But what about my normal academy curriculum?"

"It’ll remain the same. Like I said, I’m a busy man, so don’t expect me to teach you very often. You should focus on your classes and prove to me that you’re worthy of my time. I’m giving you this chance because Leo also believes in your potential, and that man isn’t stupid."

"Now, go. You can watch the entrance exam if you want. They’ll have to fight against each other. It’s quite fun. I find it boring to watch because of how weak they are, so I won’t be there."

I nodded and thanked him for the opportunity, then left. The same guard who had shown me around was waiting by the door.

"So? Did you pass the test?"

"Yes. He actually picked me as his disciple. Cool, right?"

"What? Are you serious?"

"Yeah. He said I can watch the entrance exam. You know, the fights. Can you stay with me and show me where they’ll happen?"

"Of course. Follow me, please."

The fact that I was now the principal’s disciple made the guard act even more respectfully toward me. That was good.

I returned to where the new candidates were. Not all of them would become official students, but some would, and I wanted to see who.
