I woke up scared. No longer next to the river, but inside a cave. How did I end up there?

My eyes slowly adjusted to the darkness, and when I tried to move, I realized something was wrong. I couldn’t move my body.

Looking down, I saw my body wrapped in cobwebs. A spider? I didn’t see one anywhere nearby, but whatever wrapped me up like this had to be big.

Breaking free using my own strength didn’t work, no matter how hard I tore at the cobwebs. So I used my cube instead.

I shaped it into a dagger and started cutting through the webs. Strong stuff, but my cube was stronger, and I managed to cut through it all.

Before I finished, the spider that had done this to me showed up again, crawling down one of the cave walls, shooting more webs at me. I tried to keep cutting, but this time the creature used so much web that moving became impossible.

Not just my body trapped this time, my cube too. I couldn’t move it with my mind, and when I tried to unsummon it, that didn’t work either, for some reason. Fuck.

This spider was strong, I could tell that much. Not a C-rank monster like that gecko. B-rank, maybe? A-rank? No, A was too much.

Even B-rank was way too strong for me right now, though.

What the hell was going on with this rift? Usually rifts had monsters clustered around one rank, with just a few outliers stronger.

But a rift with everything from F-rank all the way up to B-rank? That was insane.

Made sense now why nobody wanted to explore this Unstable Rift. Everything in here was just too dangerous.

After locking me in place, the spider didn’t go for the kill right away. It just stood there, watching me with those creepy eyes.

How many hours had passed since I passed out? That was the question stuck in my head.

Odds were good the unknown energy would show up soon to try to kill me, and that wasn’t necessarily a bad thing. Might be able to use it to my advantage.

I kept trying to move, or use my ability to break free, moving the cube to slice the webs, even trying to slip into my pocket dimension, but the webs were blocking my power completely.

And the poison had taken over my arm. The veins had turned purple, and the arm was slowly rotting, starting to look like something off a corpse.

Wasn’t looking great.

About an hour must’ve passed while I was trapped there. The spider finally moved, and this time, it looked like it was actually going in for the kill.

It got close, then tore through its own webs to free me. But I quickly realized it wasn’t freeing all of me, just my right arm.

What was it doing? I figured it out fast. The spider sank its fangs into my arm and cut it clean off. Pain tore through my whole body as the creature ripped my fucking arm off.

Screaming wasn’t an option, the webs muffled my mouth completely. My vision blurred again, this time not from the poison but from blood loss.

Holding onto my thoughts got hard. I think the spider ripped my arm off because it was poisoned, meaning it probably planned to eat me soon.

Barely any consciousness left in me as it unwrapped me from the webs. Impossible to think straight or use my powers in that state. I was basically dead.

I tried to scrape together whatever strength I had left to fight back, to do something instead of just accepting a shitty death. But I didn’t have it in me.

Was I going to die? After everything?

Then I felt it. The unknown energy was coming for me. That was my shot. The slim chance of surviving sent adrenaline flooding through my body.

Thoughts came clear again. I didn’t want to die. I wouldn’t die.

I summoned my dimensional cube and reshaped it into a massive box around the spider, locking it in place.

The spider slammed into the cube with its legs, its fangs, its whole body, throwing everything it had at it. Each hit made the cube tremble, and cracks started spreading across its surface.

But I didn’t need to hold it forever, just long enough for the unknown energy to reach us both.

My body got heavier, like gravity itself was shifting around me. I quickly jumped onto the cube, and when the energy hit, it hit the trapped spider too.

The creature slammed into the ground, taking the same damage I was.

Its body was tougher than mine, though, and I was already wrecked. In a pure war of attrition, I’d lose for sure.

So I didn’t just sit there. I shaped spikes inside the cube and drove them into the spider’s body over and over. A deadly trap.

Under normal circumstances, the spider would’ve had the strength to smash through the cube and escape, or dodge the spikes entirely. But with the unknown energy crushing it too, it was completely defenseless.

Screams tore out of me from the pain, bones cracking throughout my body, blood pouring out from where my arm used to be.

I was in a shit state, barely enough strength left to keep moving.

Once the spider was torn up enough, open wounds all over, barely able to move, I knew it was as good as dead. All I had to do was escape, so that’s exactly what I did.

I slipped into my pocket dimension, escaping the terrifying energy trying to kill me.

Inside, I saw Bob. Awake now, and looking way better than before. Like he’d evolved somehow, gotten stronger.

But then I was back out just three seconds later. My body was too weak to stay inside for long. Not that I could ever stay long anyway, even when I was healthy.

Still, one second inside was enough to shut down the energy trying to kill me. It vanished instantly, same as every other time.

As for the spider, it was on the ground, barely moving. Legs twitching, but no strength left to get up. Time would finish it off, I just had to wait.

But what about me? I’d die too if I just sat there waiting. And how the hell was I supposed to get my fucking arm back?

I decided to take Bob out of the pocket dimension. Once outside, he jumped straight onto the open wound where my arm used to be. Glued himself there, trying to help with the healing.

After 30 minutes, the bleeding had already stopped, and the pain was somewhat bearable.

Bob helped, somehow, but he wasn’t enough to bring my arm back.

Then I noticed something strange about him. Once he saw I wasn’t dying anymore, his attention shifted to something else. Bob started jumping away, heading deeper into the cave.

I decided to follow. Bob had already changed my future as a hunter once, so I figured I could trust him.

If he was heading into that cave, there had to be something worth finding. At least, I hoped so.

He moved faster than me, not because he was quick, but because I was slow. My body was struggling just to stay upright.

Then, deep in the cave, I saw it. The thing that had gotten Bob so excited.
