Figures thronged the Star Port, but now, they all greeted the Ancient King in unison. After their voices died down, an utter silence fell.
Even though Wu Yue was deeply reluctant, he didn’t stubbornly refuse to participate. His etiquette was flawless.
After the greeting, the crowd looked up, their gazes discreetly falling upon the Ancient King before them.
The Bronze Ancient King’s eyes were placid. His gaze swept across the powerful figures who stood at the apex of the Morning Star Sea. Many dared not meet his gaze, quickly looking away.
After a moment, he finally spoke, his voice slow. "Everyone, you’re too kind."
Qing Cang gazed at his master, feeling both relieved and somewhat surprised.
His master had told him in advance that he would be coming, so that part wasn’t too surprising. But the sudden, intense flare of the Flame Fire was something he hadn’t mentioned.
He couldn’t help but wonder, ’Master already left the Ancient King Hall and is no longer suppressing the Fog Ashes. Just keeping the Flame Fire from going out must already take a heavy toll. So why force it to burn even brighter?’
The Bronze Ancient King’s sudden appearance here was already a clear sign that the Bronze Sect was far from being at the end of its rope.
’That means the Four Great Sects and the Royal Court will have to make slight adjustments to their stances. But even making the Flame Fire flare up like this won’t change their attitudes that much more.’
’But if a problem arises later, others might see that something is amiss. I can’t believe Master didn’t consider this. Unless...’
His heart suddenly leaped. He seemed to have thought of something, but he didn’t dare believe it. He swallowed hard and immediately dismissed the idea...
’Impossible. Absolutely impossible. How could it be that simple...’
His expression flickered with uncertainty, but no one else noticed.
’As expected of the Ancient King closest to the Sun Tier...’ A peculiar light shone in the beautiful eyes of Li Qing, the Venerable from the Profound Celestial Sect.
’Since he has appeared, then no matter the circumstances, it’s an indirect statement that he still has power in reserve. He is by no means as decrepit and weak as the rumors claim.’
"Uncle Shiyan." The Bronze Ancient King stepped forward to support the frail-looking Profound Turtle King. "It’s been quite a few years since we last met, I’m afraid," he said gently.
"About a hundred years, I’d say." The Profound Turtle King let out a breath of relief. He patted the Bronze Ancient King’s arm with his withered hands and said with a pleased smile, "The Ancient King’s bearing is as impressive as ever. I, on the other hand, am becoming quite useless."
The crowd discreetly sized up the Ancient King. He wasn’t using any form of concealment, so everyone could intuitively confirm that this was his true body—not an Illusion created by some other means, nor an avatar.
"Just seeing you has made this trip worthwhile. The next time you see me, it will likely be at my tombstone."
The Profound Turtle King let out a soft sigh. His profession was known for longevity, and the Royal Court’s various technologies were the apex of the Morning Star Sea. He had already lived for far too long; his old friends had all passed away one by one.
His descendants were dozens of generations removed from him. If not for their shared bloodline, there would be little emotional attachment to speak of.
If the Hanhai Emperor hadn’t personally come to request his presence, he wouldn’t have wanted to make this trip and risk souring a friendship from many years ago.
The Bronze Ancient King supported the Profound Turtle King as they moved forward. "I remember my master was talking about you, right before he passed."
"Hahaha!" The Profound Turtle King laughed aloud as he was led along. "That old coot probably never imagined it. An Ancient King, and he still died before me. He must have been so resentful..."
The two conversed happily, appearing to get along quite well.
Behind them, Chu Lingyuan relaxed considerably. Now that his master had appeared, the pressure on them would be much less intense.
Qin Yun’s gaze, however, remained fixed on her master’s back, her eyes tinged with a faint suspicion.
Behind them, the members of the Bronze Sect craned their necks to look at the Bronze Ancient King, and Shen Yi’an was no exception.
The Bronze Ancient King hadn’t appeared publicly within the Sect for a very long time. With the recent swell of rumors, and with the Four Great Sects and the Royal Court poised to act against them, it was inevitable that everyone was on edge.
The Bronze Ancient King’s appearance was nothing less than a shot in the arm for their morale.
Wu Yue’s face was tense. ’This must be the Bronze Ancient King’s doing,’ he suspected. ’He probably used some technique to make his Flame Fire look this bright. The cost must have been enormous.’
’But... it also proves that the Bronze Ancient King still has the power to flip the table.’
The Peng King’s pleasant expression vanished. The Bronze Ancient King’s appearance was not good news for the Royal Court. Their plans would have to be adjusted further, and he suspected the attitudes of the Four Great Sects would also shift subtly.
With everyone lost in their own thoughts, the Bronze Ancient King helped the Profound Turtle King board a Flying Device. The others quickly followed.
The Star Seeds gathered in one group, while the upper echelons from the other Sects were each met by their designated hosts. All arrangements had been made.
Numerous Flying Devices took off, heading one after another toward one of the satellite cities.
The newest satellite city lacked infrastructure and was not yet habitable. The temporary residences for the Four Great Sects and the Royal Court were still located on Beiming Star, one of the other three satellite cities.
Aboard one of the Flying Devices, the Star Seeds from the various great Sects stood scattered about.
They had already exchanged brief pleasantries. While they appeared to be on friendly terms, each was secretly proud. After the initial greetings, no one initiated further conversation. They all kept to their own space, either gazing out the viewport or resting with their eyes closed.
Only Han Xingliu approached Wei Zhenghong and Shen Yi’an. "Brother Shen, Brother Wei," he greeted them. "It’s been many years. You both look as sharp as ever."
"You’re too kind, Your Highness," Shen Yi’an replied gently. Wei Zhenghong merely gave a lazy nod.
After exchanging a few more pleasantries, Han Xingliu asked, "Why isn’t Su Chen, the new Star Seed from the Bronze Sect, here today?"
