My Second Marriage with the Mafia Kingpin

Chapter 512: It’s Been A While, Marshal.

"Let my husband go, or I’ll shoot him."

Carmella’s voice echoed through the area, only to be met with silence.

"NOW!" she screamed.

"Please, please..." Raka whimpered, his hands raised and his eyes darting between Lucian and Ashley. "Just do what she says. She’s going to kill me!"

But Lucian and Ashley didn’t move. They merely stared at Carmella, while everyone else kept their guns raised.

"Carmella..." Marshal nearly cried at the sight of his wife coming to his rescue.

It was certainly unexpected, but perhaps he would survive tonight after all.

Before tears could well up in his eyes, however, his gaze shifted toward Ashley’s hand—to the pistol she was holding. He looked up at her face and noticed that she was slightly distracted.

Meanwhile, Lucian glanced at his wife before shifting his attention to Raka.

"Lower your weapons," he finally ordered.

No one obeyed. Instead, they tightened their grips on their rifles.

"Now," he repeated, shooting them a sidelong glance.

Everyone exchanged looks before finally lowering their weapons.

"Put them on the ground!" Carmella roared. "Kick them out of your reach! Don’t make me repeat myself!"

BANG!

She fired into the air before quickly pressing the muzzle back against Raka’s head. At that, everyone placed their weapons on the ground and kicked them away.

At the same time, Marshal mustered his courage and lunged forward. He snatched the pistol from Ashley’s hand before yanking her against him.

"HAHA!" he laughed, wrapping an arm around Ashley’s neck and pressing the pistol to her temple. "You fucking bitch. You think you’re a big girl now just because you managed to corner me, huh?"

Lucian froze as Marshal glared at him.

"Take another step, and I’ll blow her head off!" Marshal warned, sneering at him.

Lucian’s jaw tightened while everyone in the madam’s faction balled their hands into fists. Yet Ashley merely looked at her husband and subtly shook her head.

She raised her hands in surrender.

"Please don’t kill me," she said, earning laughter from both Marshal and Carmella.

"Kill the bitch," Carmella urged, smiling as their chances of escape became clearer.

But alas...

"You’re making a mistake," Scott breathed, staring directly at Marshal. "Sir, you don’t—"

BANG!

Just as Scott tried to push himself forward and warn them one important detail, another gunshot echoed through the area. His face twisted in agony as a bullet tore through his stomach, sending him crashing violently to the ground.

"Ugh—!"

"You useless bastard!" Carmella barked, huffing and puffing as she kept her pistol trained on Scott. "You had one job, and you couldn’t even do that! I’m going to kill you myself!"

Scott clenched his teeth and looked down at the blood seeping from his wound. One of the men tried to stop the bleeding but froze when Carmella screamed.

"Nobody moves!" She turned toward Marshal. "Honey, let’s go!"

Marshal nodded, maintaining a firm hold on Ashley. He pressed the pistol harder against her temple and hissed, "Move. Don’t try anything stupid, or I’ll blow your head off!"

"Okay." Ashley nodded, giving Lucian a meaningful look. "Don’t shoot."

Marshal carefully dragged her backward, not daring to take his eyes off Dominion’s men. Meanwhile, Carmella’s gaze darted from one person to another, ensuring that no one tried anything.

Soon, Marshal reached her side.

"Don’t move!" he shouted. "If you want these two to stay alive, move over there—all of you!"

"Uhh..." Ashley drew a shallow breath before glancing at the other hostage. "Raka."

"Shut up!" Marshal tightened his arm around her neck, making her wince. "I’m not finished with you yet."

"Don’t shoot!" Carmella roared, tugging Raka backward. "Don’t turn around. Just keep walking backward."

Raka gulped and nodded, doing exactly as he was told. But when his eyes shifted toward Ashley, all he saw were her widening eyes fixed on him.

"What—"

"I said stop talking!" Carmella screamed, yanking the back of his collar. "One more word, and I’ll shoot you."

Raka’s breath hitched.

"Oh, come on. She can’t," Ashley said.

She slid her gaze toward Carmella. "If she shoots you, they’re both dead."

Marshal sneered. "Even if we die, I’m taking you down with me."

"Be my guest," Ashley snapped, looking ahead as Lucian and his men followed them one careful step at a time. "Do you think I’m afraid to die? I’ve always wondered what would finally kill me."

She smiled as she turned her eyes toward Carmella.

"But neither of you wants to die. You want to live. That’s why you haven’t pulled the trigger."

"What the hell are you doing?!" Raka hissed in panic. "Just shut up! Are you trying to get me killed?"

"No." Ashley took another step backward, her eyes remaining fixed on her husband. "I’m telling you that they don’t have the guts. So, relax."

She shifted her gaze toward Raka. "They want to live just as badly as you do. She won’t pull the trigger. They know better than that."

"The moment either of them shoots you or me, Lucian and his men will kill them." She jerked her chin toward her husband. "I’m fine with that."

"I’m not!" Raka gasped, staring at her in disbelief. "Are you crazy!??"

They were in the same predicament, but somehow, Ashley appeared to be exactly where she wanted to be. Raka, however, was in no state of mind to dwell on that.

For now, they continued walking backward, with Raka and Ashley positioned in front of Carmella and Marshal. Lucian and several of his men followed, maintaining a cautious distance.

"Carmella, did you prepare a car for us?" Marshal asked, keeping his eyes trained on Lucian. "Who’s waiting for us?"

"Some of your men are with me," Carmella answered. "They’re waiting for us."

Marshal furrowed his brows and glanced at her. Before he could question her, Ashley spoke.

"Your men?" She arched a brow. "And yet they sent you to do the job alone?"

Marshal ground his teeth, but all he could do was tighten his arm around her neck.

"Shut up, bitch."

"How naive can you be?" Ashley continued, even as he choked her. "I wouldn’t be surprised if those men waiting for you only want to make sure you end up dead."

"Shut up!" Carmella’s voice rose to a shriek. "Say one more word, and I’ll shoot you!"

Raka hissed anxiously. "Shh! Just shut up!"

"Raka..." Ashley studied the increasingly hysterical Carmella, preparing to give him an instruction as they passed between two cargo containers and emerged on the other side.

At that moment, a familiar voice reached them.

"The game is already over, and yet... you never cease to amaze me with your refusal to give up. I find that admirable about you—the only admirable thing about you."

As the calm voice echoed through the area, everyone turned.

Multiple vehicles were waiting on the other side.

The men who had accompanied Carmella were dead.

Aside from the Dominion members following them, the vehicle they had planned to use for their escape was now surrounded by another group of armed men.

Its doors stood open, and sitting in one of them was Tommy.

One foot rested on the ground while the other remained on the vehicle’s side step. Both hands rested atop his cane as he calmly observed the people emerging from between the cargo containers.

The moment Marshal saw him, his breath hitched.

Tommy gave him a slight nod.

"It’s been a while, Marshal."
