My Seed Gives Systems In The Apocalypse
Chapter 107: Mana’s Gender PreferenceJenny paused, her breath catching in her throat. "F-Fredrinn... I think I can sense it..." she murmured, her voice laced with absolute shock and childlike awe.
Her eyes remained tightly shut as she visualized the scene behind her eyelids.
A luminous, magical stream of pure azure light was snaking through the dimness, flowing smoothly toward Fredrinn’s frame like water rushing down a riverbed.
Fredrinn’s low chuckle resonated softly beside her. "Great job. I knew you’d be able to catch onto it easily. Now, the next step is trying to absorb it yourself."
A sudden wave of warmth washed through Jenny’s chest at his effortless praise.
She puffed out her chest with unrestrained pride, feeling ridiculously accomplished—like a kitten that had successfully figured out its litter box and was now waiting for an enthusiastic pat on the head.
All that felt missing was his broad palm ruffling her hair.
She let out a soft, self-conscious cough to banish the embarrassing daydream. "How do I pull it in?"
Fredrinn hummed thoughtfully, keeping his instructions simple. "Open up your mental awareness. Relax your skin, visualize your pores opening, and issue a direct mental command for the energy to enter your body and circulate through your internal mana channels."
Jenny gave a firm, determined nod. Locking her concentration on that glowing azure current, she narrowed her focus on the particles drifting right in front of her.
’Come on, over here, mana~ I’ll treat you a million times better than he will!’ she reasoned playfully in her head, unable to stop her thoughts from taking a silly turn. ’You definitely prefer pretty girls, right? I have no clue what an internal channel looks like, but I bet mine are way cozier than his. Come on over~ I’m waiting~’
She repeated the internal chant like a bizarre mantra, practically sweet-talking the ambient energy to abandon its original course and drift into her skin instead.
If Fredrinn possessed mind-reading abilities at that moment, he would have broken into uncontrollable laughter.
The ambient mana, lacking any consciousness, naturally ignored her flirtatious inner monologue.
Yet, as her intent sharpened and her mental pull concentrated into a singular point, a cluster of shimmering blue motes began to vibrate in mid-air.
Tugging against the current, they wavered between the two Awakeners.
Standing nearby with his eyes closed, Fredrinn kept his expansive sensory field active.
To his perception, the immediate area was laid out like a three-dimensional radar grid. He could clearly track the flow of energy through Jenny’s circulatory system and pinpoint every ambient particle within several yards.
Noticing the faint hesitation in the stream, a knowing smile touched his lips. He consciously clamped down on his own intake, cutting off his spiritual suction in an instant.
With his end of the channel abruptly shut, the dense river broke apart.
Most of the azure motes scattered naturally, dispersing back into the open atmosphere as their volatile nature dictated.
However, a small cluster remained tethered nearby—the particles closest to Jenny that had already been nudged by her intent.
Deprived of Fredrinn’s overpowering draw, the lingering motes shifted trajectory, steadily flowing toward her outstretched awareness.
A radiant, triumphant grin broke across Jenny’s face.
"It’s coming! They actually listened to me!" she blurted out with an unfiltered laugh, her posture straightening in excitement. "I knew it—even ambient energy is a sucker for a pretty girl! Hahaha!"
Her sudden outburst shattered her mental focus for a split second, causing the incoming stream to flicker.
Catching herself, she quickly cleared her throat, swallowed her giggles, and slammed her concentration back into place, re-establishing the pull until the light sank beneath her skin.
Fredrinn opened his eyes, blinking in pure, deadpan amusement.
Where on earth did she get the wild idea that the mana particles had gender preferences? He shook his head with a quiet chuckle, deciding not to burst her bubble as a subtle shift in the nearby environment caught his attention.
His mana sense registered two distinct Awakeners moving toward the folding doors of the yellow bus.
Vivienne possessed no internal mana pool, rendering her invisible to his supernatural radar, but tracking Rose’s potent, condensed signature and Aadav’s weaker presence made it obvious that the group was wrapping up their inspection inside the bus.
Glancing back toward the Camry, he saw Jenny sitting peacefully on the warm hood, completely absorbed in pulling the last wisps of mana into her channels.
Deciding to let her finish her process without distraction, Fredrinn turned on his heel and walked toward the bus’s front entrance.
Right on cue, the hydraulic doors hissed open.
Rose stepped down the metal stairs first.
Her high heels clicked crisply against the damp asphalt, her posture radiating poised, effortless grace.
She locked her crimson eyes onto Fredrinn the moment she cleared the doorway. While her gaze carried its usual heated affection, Fredrinn’s sharpened perception easily caught the tight, simmering thread of irritation humming beneath her composed expression.
Aadav stepped out behind her, a wide, relieved grin plastered across his face. He was obviously happy at the moment.
Vivienne emerged last, her movements slow and heavy. Her soft lips were pressed into a tight, sorrowful line, and she shook her head repeatedly as she looked down at the pavement.
Given that this was a bus from her own school, formerly packed with fleeing students and faculty, it took very little imagination to deduce the gruesome sight she had just witnessed inside the bus.
Right at that moment, a soft chime chimed within Jenny’s mind as the quest concluded.
Her eyes snapped open. Grinning from ear to ear, she hopped down from the hood, practically bouncing on her heels as she turned toward where Fredrinn had been standing originally.
"I actually pulled it off, Freddy! Thanks a—"
Her voice died instantly in her throat.
The space beside the car was completely empty and Fredrinn was nowhere to be found.
She looked towards the bus, her bright amber eyes meeting directly with Rose’s unblinking, dangerous and murderous, crimson glare.
Jenny swallowed all her excitement.
