Like a child caught red-handed about to blurt out a secret who suddenly gets glared down by their mother, Jenny went dead silent.
Rose’s glare was razor-sharp, and the killing intent rolling off her was thick enough to make the air feel heavy.
Even though she was the one who had deliberately walked away to leave them alone, that didn’t mean she actually enjoyed the reality of it. Her husband was out here fooling around with another woman.
How was any self-respecting wife supposed to just smile and take that?
Still, Rose drew in a slow, steady breath, using her newly sharpened mind to rein in the volatile demon inside her.
In a split second, the suffocating malice evaporated into nothingness, replaced by a radiant, breathtaking smile. With a single fluid step, she closed the distance, wrapping her arms around Fredrinn’s neck and pulling him down to press her lips firmly against his.
Fredrinn’s eyes widened slightly in surprise before his arms instinctively found her waist. Even he hadn’t anticipated her sudden, aggressive public display of affection.
Rose playfully dragged the tip of her tongue across his bottom lip, catching the faint, metallic tang of blood from Jenny’s earlier rough interactions before pulling back just an inch to look into his eyes.
"Hubby, the bus is in working condition," she purred softly, loud enough for everyone around them to hear. "Let’s drive it back to the school and make the others scrub the blood and mess out of the interior. In the meantime, you and I have some very important things to talk about~"
Fredrinn offered a soft smile and nodded, though he couldn’t stop his eyes from drifting toward Jenny.
Jenny was standing frozen near the Camry, her lips parted in absolute, shell-shocked disbelief.
She had literally just crossed that intimate threshold with him in the back of the car—surrendering her first real kiss and giving him her first blowjob—only to be forced to watch another woman openly claim his mouth right in front of her face.
The sheer humiliation and jealousy burned through her veins.
Hot fury flared in her chest, but before the rage could fully ignite, it collapsed into bitter helplessness.
The rival standing in her way wasn’t some frail, defenseless human like Andrea back at the warehouse. It was an overpowered, terrifying demon who could command legions of undead and snap Jenny’s spine like a dry twig in a fraction of a second.
All the excitement and pride she had felt from mastering mana absorption and clearing her quest withered away to ashes. Letting out a sharp, venomous huff, Jenny stomped forward, deliberately shoulder-checking Fredrinn’s elbow as she brushed past him.
She marched past Aadav and stormed up the folding steps of the yellow bus.
Realizing no one was moving, she turned around, gripped the handrail, and glared down at Aadav with bared teeth.
"Do you need a written fucking invitation or something? Get in, geez! Drive us back to the school already! Vivienne, get on board too. Let’s give the lovely couple their precious privacy!"
Every syllable dripping from her mouth was laced with pure sarcasm and barely contained hostility.
Aadav blinked, looking nervously between Vivienne and the furious blonde. He knew when a woman was on the verge of exploding, and right now, obeying Jenny was the safest path to keeping his head attached to his neck.
Clearing his throat, he gave Fredrinn and Rose a hurried, awkward nod before scrambling up into the driver’s seat of the bus.
Vivienne followed after them absentmindedly. She seemed more entangled inside her own head rather than present mentally.
If someone suddenly told her to strip naked, she might even do that without thinking... That’s how distracted she was.
In the last few hours, she had gotten way more shocks and surprises than she had gotten all her life.
Down on the street, Rose and Fredrinn exchanged a quiet look. Rose simply gave an indifferent shrug, while Fredrinn pinched the bridge of his nose, feeling a massive headache brewing behind his eyes.
He hadn’t made any move to stop Jenny from storming off, and for good reason: he needed this exact moment to get things straight with Rose.
He intended to lay out the truth about his system and explain that expanding his circle wasn’t just mindless lust, but an absolute necessity for growing his power and earning life-saving rewards.
Hopefully, appealing to her logic would work. After all, she was the one who had voluntarily vacated the car earlier to give him space with Jenny in the first place.
If she hadn’t done that, breaking Jenny’s defenses would have been ten times harder. That meant Rose was already thinking several steps ahead rather than operating on blind, feral impulse.
She was vastly smarter now. He just couldn’t decide if having a brilliant demon wife was a blessing or a terrifying curse.
"Does hubby even know how to drive that metal thing?" Rose asked with a sweet, innocent smile, clearly thrilled at the prospect of being alone with him as she gestured toward the silver Camry.
Fredrinn gave a casual shrug. "I’ll figure it out as I go. I watched Aadav work the pedals and the wheel, so... yeah. How hard can it be?"
"If we crash, Rose will just carry hubby out," she giggled in response, strutting toward the car with an exaggerated sway of her hips. She pulled open the passenger door and settled comfortably into the seat.
Selene was already tucked away inside the bus under strict orders to remain motionless until further notice, so the others weren’t in any immediate danger.
Chuckling at Rose’s breezy confidence, Fredrinn slid behind the wheel and closed the driver’s door. He adjusted his grip on the steering wheel, but he didn’t reach for the ignition key just yet.
Instead, he turned his entire body to face her, his expression turning calm, steady, and serious.
"Alright, Rose," he said, his voice dropping into a low, measured tone. "What was it you wanted to talk about?"
