Although Aurelius had made a decision and Elena no longer had a reason to refuse, his visit to the Imperial Capital was obviously not a simple matter.

Going from Blood Sun City to the Goblin Mountains had already proven difficult enough. One could only imagine how difficult it would be to travel from a border city to the center of the kingdom.

Even though there were far fewer monsters due to the humans’ development, this didn’t mean that they were nonexistent. If anything, those that had managed to survive under the threat of humans were incredibly strong.

Likewise, monsters were far from the only danger.

Bandits. Mercenaries. Even other nobles could pose a threat.

In order to ensure that Aurelius would arrive at the Imperial City safely, the Sol family had to take certain measures.

"The journey to the capital will take four days. That means the young Lord has only four weeks before his departure."

"The earlier you leave, the better."

"Once you’ve made a decision, you should contact me through the method we discussed earlier. I’ll personally come to pick you up."

In the room, the only voice that could be heard was that of Arthur.

He spoke alone for several minutes, going through everything that needed to be said.

It was only a while later that he finally stopped and smiled.

"If there’s nothing else, I won’t keep the young Lord and the Lady busy." He performed a respectful salute toward both of them before leaving the mansion.

A few seconds later, the sound of the carriage leaving rang out.

Silence fell over the room.

Yet before Aurelius could say anything...

"How could you have agreed to such a matter so easily? Have you gone insane?" Elena suddenly scolded him.

"Don’t you know how dangerous visiting the capital is? It’s already dangerous to visit during the holidays, but at least the people interested in you will be paying attention to you."

"Now, with such an urgent invitation, I’m afraid that no one will catch wind of it."

What Elena was saying was relatively simple.

Visiting during the holidays was safe since everyone knew that Aurelius would do so. As for now, no one did.

The interested people, or more precisely, those with threatening intentions, could take the opportunity to take him out.

Whether it was an "inconvenience" or an outright assassination, both were entirely possible.

Elena’s voice snapped Aurelius back to reality.

Hearing her words, he smiled wryly. His previous arrogant demeanor disappeared as he shook his head.

"Don’t I know this already? But Mother, you should also understand the situation. Since this matter involves the Vow Knight Class, I have no chance to refuse."

"Don’t let Arthur fool you just because he was originally gentle and kind. I can be certain that if any of us had refused, he wouldn’t have hesitated to knock us unconscious and drag us back to the Imperial City."

Elena wanted to argue back.

But hearing the second part of Aurelius’ speech, the words remained stuck in her mouth.

She knew that he was correct. Arthur was an Awakener in his own right.

Since this matter concerned the Sol family’s most valuable inheritance, there was no way he would give up on them.

Even if she wanted to struggle, she would likely gain nothing.

Although she knew this, Elena still wanted to argue.

She opened her mouth several times, trying to think of the right words.

Unfortunately, nothing came out.

In the end, she let out a heavy breath.

Her back hunched, her head lowered.

"You’re right... It’s all my fault. If only I were an Awakener... If only I had the power to refuse your father’s orders, things wouldn’t be like this."

"Things wouldn’t have reached this point."

Her voice sounded frail, completely unlike her usual demeanor.

At normal times, Elena had been both reliable and strong in front of Aurelius. At the very least, as long as he could remember.

Yet now, she looked on the verge of a mental breakdown. Her entire body trembled. Whether it was from anger or disappointment in herself was a mystery.

Aurelius did not even have time to stop her.

Before he could react, she had entered her room, slamming the door behind her.

Instinctively, he wanted to go forward and comfort her.

However, he ultimately suppressed that impulse. He knew that doing so would be counterproductive, serving nothing more than his own emotions.

Instead, it would be far better to simply leave her alone.

Elena was a strong woman.

Aurelius believed it would not take her long to recover and come back even stronger.

Even so, this matter weighed heavily on his mind.

Not only Elena, but the invitation to the Imperial City as well.

His mother was right.

Visiting the capital was bound to be dangerous.

At the same time, his father’s true purpose was still unknown.

"The inheritance of the Sol family..." Aurelius smacked his lips, taking one last glance outside the window and toward the entrance of the mansion.

Subconsciously, the image of a blue interface appeared in his mind.

[Arthur—Level 59 Butler]

--

A few minutes later, Aurelius had returned to his room.

Although what happened earlier was impossible to forget or dismiss, it had gradually been pushed to the back of his mind.

One month was indeed a relatively short amount of time. Especially for Awakeners, it was hardly enough time to make much progress.

But for Aurelius, things were different.

It had only been a few days since he awakened his memories and the Player Panel appeared. Yet in that short amount of time, he had managed to reach Level 29 and now had enough Experience to upgrade a few more times if he wished to.

One month was a lot of time for him.

It was likely he would have reached Rank 3 by then. Perhaps even Rank 4 was possible.

Of course, everything depended on his own luck.

The exact details were completely out of his hands.
