[North Forest — Eastern Island — Day 74 — 4:09 PM]

The angel found the forest’s pattern in four minutes.

Less than the team had calculated.

The repressor processing the new geometry — the thirty‑meter trunks, the six‑meter space between them, Akari’s tails as a network between support points — and adapting in real time with the same speed it had adapted to Seraph and Jessica on the open road.

The pulse smaller now: not the full radius needing all four wings but a concentrated, narrower pulse that filtered between the trunks with enough power to eliminate what it found in its path.

Akari’s tails blocking the north angle.

Three of the nine — disabled by the concentrated pulse that filtered between two trunks with two hundred centimeters of space between them.

Akari with six tails.

The angel rotating toward Seraph with the freed space.

---

Seraph blocked the strike with her scythe.

[Seraph HP: 134,600 → 97,400]

Not absorption — a block, because the strike came from the angle the forest had created, the angle where F2 had less absorption margin and more direct resistance.

Thirty‑seven thousand damage passing through the block.

The scythe held but the arm with the impact resonating in the bone.

Seraph stepped back two paces.

The angel reached her before she recovered them.

Second strike — to the arm holding the scythe, the point the repressor had learned to attack since the first minute against Alex.

[Seraph HP: 97,400 → 71,800]

The scythe gave way in her hand.

She didn’t drop it — Seraph gripped it with what remained of the strength in that arm. But her position wasn’t that of someone who could attack; it was someone holding what they had while processing that the fight had just changed character once more.

"Seraph," said Emily from behind.

"I’m standing," said Seraph.

"Seventy‑one thousand HP."

"I know."

The angel preparing the next one.

---

Jessica with F6 on the wing edge at fifty‑one percent — nine points from the sixty where the wing started losing effective flight capability. The estimated three minutes she had given was now two.

But the angel inside the forest had found the angle where the left wing wasn’t the flank Jessica had available — the forest adaptation had included orienting its body so the degraded edge was partially covered by the trunk of the tree closest to its left.

F6 reached the edge but with the tree interrupting part of the radius.

The degradation rate dropping from one point per twenty seconds to one point per forty.

The two minutes became four.

"I lost the direct angle," said Jessica. Without urgency but with precision. "The rate dropped by half."

"Can you recover it?" said Raven.

"I need the angel to move two meters east." Jessica. "The tree covering the wing would move out of the radius."

"Can I move it two meters east?" said Raven.

Sixty‑four Army of Bones units reconstituted — forty had survived the last pulse, twenty‑four newly summoned since entering the forest.

"Not to move it." Raven direct. "To make it find it more convenient to be two meters east than where it is."

Sixty‑four units orienting toward the angel’s west flank — not in assault, in pressure. Army of Bones pushing from the west so the angel would find the east space as the path of least resistance.

The angel read the maneuver.

And stayed where it was.

It struck Raven with the concentrated pulse.

[Raven HP: 198,300 → 141,700]

Raven against the trunk behind her.

F3 held — the transformation active, her crimson eyes, the scythe in her hand — but her body with the fight’s accumulated damage making getting up this time take longer than before.

---

Viktor from the shadows:

"The angel is gaining ground." His voice flat, without the drama the situation would have produced in another context. "Not at critical speed. But gaining."

"I know," said Kira from her position between the trees.

"How long before Seraph can’t hold the scythe?"

Kira read Seraph’s state with Predator’s Sense.

"At this damage rate — two more exchanges. Three if she’s lucky."

"And Jessica?"

"Jessica can hold F6 longer than Seraph’s body can. But without the direct angle to the wing, the degradation rate won’t produce sixty percent in time."

"And Raven?"

"Raven is standing." Kira. "For now."

Viktor processed the fight’s state with the same fifty‑two years that had taught him exactly when to intervene and when not to.

This was the moment where not intervening was the wrong answer.

But what Viktor had wasn’t enough to change the outcome. Hemomancy with the angel’s blood — the only thing that had worked — and Blood Needles that had stopped the repressor for half a second.

Half a second.

Not enough.

---

Alex on the ground with his eyes closed.

F7 open — the previous cycle’s memory extended, dense, with the original Harvester’s eons on top. Alex searching for cycle forty‑two’s fight, the previous repressor’s specific signature, what the original Harvester had found that worked.

Four minutes searching.

Five.

Six.

Not finding it.

Not because it wasn’t there — F7 had the complete memory. Because cycle forty‑two’s memory was vast and the specific fight with the repressor was a point in that vastness, and Alex still didn’t know exactly how to navigate F7 in real time.

And outside, Seraph with seventy‑one thousand HP.

Raven getting up more slowly each time.

The angel gaining ground.

Alex opened his eyes.

---

"I’m not going to find it in time," said Alex.

Emily looked at him.

"What?"

"F7 has what I need, but I can’t find it before the team reaches its limit." Alex looking at his hands — his left functional, his right with his wrist recovered to seventy percent by Emily’s healing. "I need something else."

"What else?"

Alex looked at Grim.

The crimson flames at maximum since the fight’s start — the core with the repressor recognition active, with the cycle forty‑two memory that Alex’s F7 couldn’t navigate efficiently but that the core had integrated since before the sealing.

"Grim has the memory too," said Alex.

**"Master—"**

"You lived cycle forty‑two." Alex. "F7 has the record. You have the direct memory."

**"They’re different things."**

"I know." Alex. "But if I use all four Fragments to amplify the core instead of using them offensively — if I channel the four Fragments’ energy through you instead of through me—"

Grim’s crimson flames stopped.

**"That hasn’t been tried before."**

"I know."

**"It could force a transformation."**

"I know."

**"Not the complete transformation — the core without all seven can’t be the complete Harvester. But with four Fragments amplifying it—"**

"More than you are with none," said Alex. "How much more?"

Grim took time.

**"I don’t know."**

"Can you try?"

The crimson flames looked at the fight in the forest — at Seraph with seventy‑one thousand HP holding the scythe, at Raven getting up, at the angel that had found the forest’s pattern in four minutes.

**"Yes."**

---

Alex activated all four Fragments.

Not at thirty percent.

Not with the training threshold.

At the maximum he could sustain without F7’s trance — which with the last weeks’ practice was more than at the arc’s start but still wasn’t indefinite.

[F1 — active — maximum sustainable]

[F4 — active — maximum sustainable]

[F5 — active — maximum sustainable]

[F7 — active — maximum sustainable]

The pain in four points of his chest simultaneously — familiar, known, the limit months of training had defined.

And instead of orienting the four Fragments’ energy outward — toward the scythe, toward the environment’s spiritual plane, toward any external target —

He oriented it inward.

Toward Grim.

---

What happened when four Fragments’ energy reached the original Harvester’s core had no precedent because it had never happened before — the core was designed to integrate all seven Fragments in a gradual process, not to receive four simultaneously through a direct channel opened by the bearer of those four.

Grim changed.

Not slowly — all at once, like when F7 had altered the seventh space’s reality during the transfer but in the opposite direction: not reality changing around Grim but Grim changing within reality.

The eighty centimeters of the core’s skeleton grew.

Not to the scale F7 had produced in the seventh space — that had been the core responding to complete F7. This was the core with four Fragments amplifying it, the result being something between the usual eighty centimeters and the impossible scale of the seventh space.

Two and a half meters.

The crimson flames expanding outside the skeleton — not as a visual extension but as a presence on the spiritual plane, the plane between life and death responding to the core with four Fragments as territory that recognized its owner even though that owner was incomplete.

The core’s scythe materializing.

Not Alex’s scythe or Seraph’s or any of the individual Fragments’ scythes — the original Harvester’s scythe, the weapon the original Grim Reaper had used before the sealing, which the core’s memory still held as information and which four Fragments amplifying the core were enough to materialize partially.

The black edge of the plane between life and death.

---

The angel stopped.

It looked at Grim.

Not the quick evaluation from before — a real pause, the repressor processing something its parameters included but that it hadn’t expected to find at this point in the process.

The original Harvester’s core amplified by four Fragments.

Incomplete — three were missing. But present in a way that four Fragments alone or the core alone didn’t produce.

The angel’s four wings opened fully — not for the pulse, for what the repressor did when it found a variable requiring the maximum of what it had available.

---

Grim at two and a half meters tall with the plane‑between‑life‑and‑death scythe in his hands.

With the original Harvester’s neutrality — not the Grim personality the team had known for months, not the questions about markets and board games and the comments about chaos having its own logic. The neutrality of something that for eons had gathered what needed to be gathered without judging it and without judging being part of the function.

The Harvester’s function: to gather.

And what the repressor was — built from the Gods’ plane, with direct authorization, without a soul in the sense the Harvester recognized — didn’t change whether the Harvester could gather it or not.

The Harvester could gather anything.

It was what it was.

Grim moved.

---

The plane‑between‑life‑and‑death scythe reached the angel.

Not like Seraph’s F2 cuts — those cut the repressor’s surface from the ordinary spiritual plane. The original Harvester’s scythe cut from the plane between life and death, the plane where the repressor had the only real vulnerability the previous cycle’s record had documented.

The angel blocked with its arm.

The arm Seraph had cut in the third exchange — the already‑wounded arm.

The Harvester’s scythe found the previous wound and deepened it from the plane between life and death outward.

The sound the angel had made before — the one none of the team had ever heard — came again.

Louder.

[Angel — real damage — right arm — deep wound from plane between life and death]

---

The angel responded with everything it had.

All four wings at maximum extension — inside the forest, between the trees, regardless of the trunks limiting the radius. The pulse going out in all directions simultaneously, the Eastern Island’s thirty‑meter trunks taking the impact of something from the Gods’ plane that wasn’t calibrated not to damage the environment.

Four trunks gave way.

The trees falling — the sound of thirty meters of ancient wood finding the Eastern Island ground, dust and leaves filling the forest space, Akari’s tail network losing three of the trunks as support points.

The pulse reached Seraph.

[Seraph HP: 71,800 → 21,300]

Fifty thousand damage.

Seraph on her knees — not unconscious, with twenty thousand HP remaining, with the scythe still in her hand though the arm holding it no longer had the certainty of being able to lift it.

The pulse reached Raven.

[Raven HP: 141,700 → 84,200]

Raven against the nearest tree that was still standing.

The pulse reached Jessica.

[Jessica HP: 128,400 → 71,900]

Jessica stepping back four meters, F6 briefly interrupted before reactivating.

The pulse reached Emily.

[Emily HP: 480,000 → 391,600]

Emily falling — not from the direct impact, from the shockwave that reached her position with Alex. Purifying Light deactivating when Emily touched the ground.

---

Grim received the pulse.

At two and a half meters tall with four Fragments amplifying the core, the Gods’ plane pulse reached the plane between life and death where Grim operated in this state.

The plane between life and death wasn’t the ordinary spiritual plane.

It didn’t give way the same way.

Grim’s crimson flames oscillated — they didn’t go out. The core absorbing part of the pulse with the natural resistance of the plane that was the original Harvester’s territory.

[Grim — damage from Gods’ plane pulse — partially absorbed]

[Grim HP: 420,000 → 318,400]

Standing.

The plane‑between‑life‑and‑death scythe still materialized.

---

The team in the forest after the pulse.

Seraph on her knees with twenty thousand HP.

Raven against the tree with eighty‑four thousand, F3 still active.

Jessica reconstituting F6 with seventy‑one thousand.

Emily on the ground with Purifying Light deactivated.

Four thirty‑meter trees fallen opening a clearing where closed forest had been.

And the angel at the clearing’s center with its right arm deeply wounded and the impossible‑colored blood in greater quantity than all previous cuts combined.

And Grim.

Standing.

With the plane‑between‑life‑and‑death scythe.

Looking at the angel with the original Harvester’s neutrality — without the months of personality Grim had built alongside the team, without the Grim who asked about markets and found board games interesting. Only the function. Only what it was when it was what it was before the sealing.

The angel and the partial Harvester looking at each other among the fallen trees of the Eastern Island.

The repressor that the previous cycle had prevented the original Harvester from facing.

And the original Harvester’s core with four Fragments — incomplete, without the three that were missing, but more complete than it had been since the sealing.

The angel activated something it hadn’t activated before.

The Gods’ direct authorization — not the ordinary access to the Gods’ plane it had been using since landing. The complete authorization, the channel between the repressor and the Gods opening fully, what the Gods had kept in reserve for the moment when the repressor found exactly this.

The entire Eastern Island’s spiritual plane responded.

The ground trembled.

The leaves of the still‑standing trees all fell simultaneously — not from wind, from the pressure of the Gods’ plane responding to the repressor’s call through the Eastern Island’s spiritual plane.

"There it is," said Alex from the ground, watching.

**"Yes,"** said Grim. His voice carried the weight of the original Harvester. **"That’s what the previous cycle also activated."**

"And how did the original Harvester handle it?"

**"It didn’t."**

Alex looked at him.

**"The previous cycle didn’t have all seven Fragments to handle this."** Grim. **"That’s why the original Harvester built the Silent Threshold."**

"And now?"

Grim looked at the angel with the complete authorization activating.

**"Now we have four."**
